why is it considered ok for christian women like me and other jewish women to cover their hair and dress modest but not for muslim women?its not just the terrorism because people often tend to pity muslim women for covering up anyway, but what confuses me why is it ok to see nuns and amish and mennonities and hutterities covered and dressed modestly and no one says they are oppressed or terrorists?

It isnthat we condem them its more we feel bad for them. When i see a coverd women it mnakes me feel bad for her because it almost seems as though she has no rights. I believe Men and women are equal and i understand that this is a very Liberal view. If you want to debate me on that PM me. it will kill the thread lol.

for jewish and christian women covering is accepting obedience to God and husbands but the bible says the men and women are equally spirtually. if you saw me wearing this covering http://www.prayercoverings.com/pages/fabrics.php
would you feel sorry for me?

that depends on why is it because you want to or because the men in your family want you to? the muslim women from strict families have no choice.

i know a muslim girl whose father is very strict and she doesnt cover but i understand your point however i'm really on about any woman from any religion who chooses to cover for religious reasons.me,i cover because i felt God wanted me to and i like covering.no one put pressure on me it was a choice i made.

I think it's because for us it was achoice but for many women in the middle east it is forced upon them by an over dominating patriarchal society. I only feel sympathy when I see women in Afganistan or countries like that who can't even show thier face.

blueprints for the black market...

♥
If they call them a terrorist just for wearing their hair like that then you're stupid and racist.
It's as simple as that.
It's perfectly OK for them to dress how they dress.
It's their thing.

Because you have a choice.

If they don't cover themselves totally, they get stoned to death.

Isn't it that they wear the head coverings because it's supposed to make men, like, turn their eyes away and see her as a woman, not as just a sexual device, or whatever.

Most women over there are treated horribly. They are treated like property. They even have rules stating that the women and children cannot eat until the husband has had is full...then they can eat the leftovers. The forcing of these women to cover up is just a small trivial thing compared to the abuse they suffer from. Now, Im not saying that it is like this for every family, but for most...it is. The most common "abuse" we know of is the fact that they have to cover themselves so that is what everyone talks about. There is so much more going on that is even worse. Women can be thrown in prison for not walking with a male escort. Covering yourself for God can be a form of worship. But for the women in the middle east, its a form of control. (Some, though, do not find thier treatment to be wrong, but jsut a fact of life. But many women hate being oppressed)

those are really unfair rules imposed by the state not the church though.

exactly. Thats why women in the eastern world dislike their position. If they lived in a country where they were not treated this way, they would have more reason to appreciate covering than reasons to hate it.

I dont want to seem rude or anything but thats kind of lame to have to cover your face and stuff even if your religion says so
