ok so we all know we can't always rely on our gaydar to be right.

sooo there is a way of telling for sure.

Theres this new thing, dunno if you have heard about it, but all you do is wear a purple thread bracelet around your wrist.

It makes recognising other gay people so much easier.

Also if it is on your right hand it means your single. If it is on your left, your taken.

Who would wear one? spread the word peeps!

It is like with the earrings.... if you have earring or body piercing on the left side... like on the nose... and the sidelip...so you are a homosexual (this is more for boys)

but i will definitely wear something like this bracelet...
it is really cool idea idea

Ohcha

This idea started in the US on Your Daily Lesbian Moment Blog and it's spreading like a rumour in a dyke bar...

Given that we've spent time recently talking about defective gaydars, this idea has popped up just at the right time.

The idea is this....

-wear a purple string of yarn around your wrist to indicate that youre a gay girl/lady-lover (even if you identify as bi but want to attract the laydez)
-wear it on your right wrist for single
-wear it on your left for taken
-spread the word to your gay girls

the story (from Arlan smile

last monday i was sitting at a Starbucks, sippin on a caramel frap, and waiting on someone to show up for a meeting i was having. the person ended up being about 45 minutes late (we got our wires crossed). normally, i would have been a bit impatient. a bit perturbed. try to guess why i didnt mind sitting there for 45 minutes.

yep, you guessed it: a hot girl. she was studying for a college course and she was sooo my type. so i sipped...and i stared. and i pretended not to stare. and i sipped some more and stared some more. i imagined walking up to her and telling her that she was beautiful and that the way she wore her jeans and hoodie were just perfect. and i imagined her saying "thank you!" and jumping into my arms, and us doin it in the parking lot.

but i couldnt tell if she was a lesbian or not, so i didnt even try. i never got a chance to see if she'd shoot me down. i never had a chance to maybe strike up a conversation with her and find out that she was in fact, the woman of my dreams, and vice versa. all because, there is no bulletproof sign to let us know who the lesbians are. you could wear one of my homogirl shirts, and they have certainly helped! but you cant wear them every day...and sometimes you have to be more discreet than that.

so in those 45 minutes, i came up with an idea that ive been kicking around for the past week. and tonight, i went to the fabric store (yep.) and im ready to share my idea with you smile

there are kabbalah bracelets, there are livestrong bracelets...there are even *slutty before you can even vote* sex bracelets! and yes, there are gay pride bracelets...this color and that color. rainbow..and charms...and leather and all that.

but what if we had one string that united us all AND let us identify each other, in a subtle way!

i give you...

the..."But I'm a Lesbian" string bracelet (not really calling it that. havent thought of a name. this will do for now)...

yes i spent a good hour in the store finding just the right yarn for my project. and as cheesy as it may sound, i think its really cool that the people who get this will somehow all be connected...we're wearing pieces of the same string....i dont know...it warms my heart a bit.

the yarn/string that is being used is:
purple yarn: Carol, Deep Violet 547, no dye lot yarn.
chenille: lion brand yarn, color #215 sapphire print.

I am also offering to send them out (at cost price - i'm not making anything on this as it wasn't my idea (i can give you a complete breakdown of the price if you require) but i know how some people prefer just to buy something rather than go out and do it themselves and i'd love this idea to keep spreading).

£1.75 covers the cost of postage, the string, and the envelope and other packing...

I'd wear one, it would make it a lot easyier to identify people. But I have a guy friend who wears a purple string on his right hand too.

Sure, I'll wear one. Can't hurt, though I doubt anyone here knows about it. People here barely recognise the Pride Flag, seriously. rolleyes

I'll wear it. Though I'm not going to buy one from this lady. The packaging would be horrible for my dad to find. So I'll just make one ^.^

I would love to buy one, but i'd have to buy it off my mums card. . . no
or find that string, but it'd be confusing to get the right colour and such...

hmmm ive been thinking.

theres a store near my house which sells all sorts of stungs and stuff. I could make them for people and send it in descrete packaging.

I dont want any profit, you could just send me the money for the envelope and a stamp or something and Ill make one for you. biggrin

or you could just make your own. They dont look too hard to make.

Yeah it's a good idea. Problem is how spread out the idea is. I mean for all I know a straight girl could be wearing one by mistake and I'd get the wrong idea. XD
PostPosted: Mon Jul 09, 2007 7:05 pm

I'll wear it! I love the idea, and I'll make sure to let my Bi/Lez friends know! And when next school year starts, I'll let all the girls in the gay/straight alliance know.[I might reccommend them to be part of a fundraiser to help the club earn $, too.]

So I'm guessing you could still wear it if you were bi, eh? Just to let others know...

I like it. I think I'll try to make one myself since I know the color now, It'll be a spiffy project! 4laugh
