How does one wear an empire waist dress with a petticoat and not look pregnant?
I'm thinking about buying one, but I'm not sure how it would look.
Does anyone have pictures of one being worn with a petti?

I have no clue as to how an empire waist dress would look with a petticoat, but I do know that by themselves, empire waist dresses make you look pregnant.

If anything, I'd imagine a petticoat would help (maybe?). It would accentuate your true waistline (maybe?).

What's an empire waist dress?

An empire waist is when the waist line is cinched way up, below your chest...

Particularly popular in the late 1700s, early 1800s, as in the setting of "Pride and Prejudice", "Sense and Sensiblity" and "Emma" (at least, that is what I know the style from...).

Well that looks much more less um, pregnant-esque. Have you tried just a regular petticoat underneat to see if that would work?

I don't HAVE it. xD That's why I'm asking. I wouldn't want to get it and then end up looking pregnant...

Oh... Haha don't mind my retardation! xd

I could scrounge up a normal empire waist dress and try it out, if you want. I don't know if that would be helpful... *trying desperately to be helpful*

I wouldn't wear one.

I've seen a lot of girls try to wear petti's underneath empire-waisted dresses and they deffently looked pregnant or fat. xD If your thinking about that one from Baby, it should be find without one- I'm assuing it's lined and has a small petti inside, like most brand skirts and dresses have. This should be enough. It's not like the traditional bell shape, so if you wore a petticoat underneath it you'd look kinda ugh..

Edit: I think a good example of how a big petti doesn't work well with an empire waist dress is this gem here

i think a normal pettiecoat would look fine under and empire waist dress...all it will do is puff out the bottom of the dress...causeing a whole.... / kind of thing just more so...

i have acctually made a empire waisted loli dress...and plan on getting or making a pettiecoat for under it

What about a princess line petti? it's less poofy and would probably suit the shape of empire lined dresses much more.

Having said that, most of the time, if the dress is from a lolita supplier, it'll probably have some flair to it anyway, observe this dress from a UK seamstress: Link It's not the best example of an empire line, but you notice that it doesn't have a petti under and it still has flair. (I want that dress really badly!)

-C'est la lune qui conduit la danse...-

Nah, princess-line petti is too poofy as well.

Now that I actually -have- experience with my own empire waisted stuff ( xD )
I have to say that all you should wear is bloomers. Any kind of petti, even a light skirt-liner, will make you look like a triangle and it's not cute. x_x
