Okay, I know i'm really sensitive, and i LOVE my fish, like someone would love a cat or dog, and I'm crying over this whole thing right now.

I have(had) two baby (1 1/2) inch Greeen Spotted pufferfish. One of them already died from this, and the second one I think is far from helping. These guys are the most shy, and non-aggresive fish I have. I have had them for about 4-5 months now. I used to have them in their own tank, just the two guys, and I made them a move over to my bigger tank. About a week before I did though, one of their tails started to clamp up. Nothing was wrong besides that. So I made them their move.

About 2 weeks after that, the one puffer with the clamper tail started turning black (not all the way black, but really dark), he was bloated, and like to hang out in the corners of the tanks. So I put both of them in a quarintine tank and gave them Tetracycline, because the only thing that looked right was a bacterial infection of the gut. about 2 weeks, nothing changed. and still only the one fish was sick.

I moved them back because obviously it wasn't contagious. so about a month later (now) I come back after spending the weekend out to find that puffer dead. (my mom and dad takes care of them while I'm gone).

Now realize NONE of my other fish got sick, even though he was in the tank with the rest of them. But just yesterday, my last puffer, the healthy one, is now black, and just hanging out in the corners, except, this guy won't even eat, and he doesn't even swim if he doesn't have to. He just lays on the bottom of my tank.

I realize there's probably nothing I can do at this point. I just atleast want to know whats wrong with my pufferfish. My sick one dies after about 2 months and then my healthy one just suddenly gets sick. Yet none of my other fish are sick.

I just don't know whats wrong with them, if it's my fault or whatnot. I would have thought a thyroid tumor, but both of them got sick. I don't know. I just want to know what was wrong with them and how I could have maybe fixed it.

*UPDATE*
The one puffer hasn't ate in three days and He seems lethargic and his breathing is labored

UPDATE2
My last puffer died last night. It's the shittiest thing watching your pets die and you can't do a damn thing about it cause you don't know whats wrong. =[

Losing those guys are like losing a cat or dog.

I'm going to take in the one fish with a water sample to a pet store today and see if anyone can figure out what was wrong.

Maybe it's your water quality to blame.

Puffer fish are VERY susceptible to stress. and because the have no scales they can suffer easily at even the best attempts of caring for them. You need to make sure the water quality is always good and the temp right and the pH levels are good. I think there is a site i have been to that actually states and describes rules you should follow for puffers. hold on I'll find it and post it.... I am so sorry to hear about them dying on you that is always sad. I just had a plecto, who was going to be ten yrs old, decide to jump out of the tank while I was off On a weekend backpacking trip when the sitter left it's lid open crying he was our oldest fish that had survived even the earliest amateur attempts at aquarium keeping...

Green spotted puffers ARE aggressive. They may look cute, but they are little monsters ^^

I know this was 2 years ago, but what were you feeding them and what size tank did you have?

edit: wait you had them with other fish too? thats a no no with green spotted puffers
