What did i do to deserve this? Pash asked the heavans as he sat on a park bench watching his children play in the grass a few feet away.
You ruined a good person's life with your carelessness.
The words came swiftly and echoed in the mans mind until he winced. Pash had not forgotten his mistake , the reason he now held a semi human form. But he also knew that said mistake was not the reason he had come to posses these children. Only that his bosses now held them over him life a prize. If he could raise them well he would be free to return home.
Still, as he watched Anao struggle to stop her brother from eating grass for the fifth time he wondered if he could do it. He loved his children but surely they were the most difficult ones to walk the planet.
Well, aside from her tendency to space out and make the odd time distortion Anao was fairly easy to handle. Despite the mop of cranberry red hair that many claimed meant a hot tempter, his amber eyed daughter was full of cheer.
Owen was the troublesome one. Long ears that gone in everything, a tendency to chew anything he came into contact with and a fear or attraction to random sounds and vibrations. There was a pattern to Owen's responses but Pash had yet to completely decode it which often made his son unpredictable.
Hopefully the other Guardian he'd invited didn't have near so many problem with their charge. Of course that was the point of the meeting, to commiserate while the little ones played and plotted.

The invitation, though unexpected, had been welcome. Tansi, to Michael's surprise, had proved herself rather delicate when she first emerged from her leaf, lethargic and listless. Because of this, she'd had little chance to meet those outside her family, and had spent too much time indoors.
It had proved, in time, to be mearly an issue of diet, and Michael had been shocked by the hardy, playful girl that emerged once the needs of Tansi's diet were met. And now, she had energy to spare, but no real friends. A sister that adored her, yes, but Earako was usually busy with her own stuff these days. And Vimber didn't like the girl around.
Scanning the park, Michael made his way over to the bench where Pash sat, with Tansi on his shoulders. She was smiling and tugging at his hair with her hands, so he was gritting his teeth and trying to tolerate it.
"Hey." He greated, swinging the girl down from his shoulders and setting her on the ground, though keeping a grip on her hand for the moment. "Sorry if I'm a bit late. Chaos at home."

Pash looked up and smiled at Micheal, " It's no problem I understan- Owen you can't eat clover from the park." He warned voice shifting to an authoritative one. One he hoped Owen would obey at least for the moment. Returning his attend to Micheal he sighed " I'm sorry about that but as i was saying I understand."
With Anao distracted by something in the sky Owen has set his sights on a pretty purple clover plant. It looked very tasty. Only at this father's words did he stop reaching for it to stare at him and the strangers beside him. Particularly the colourful one his size.

After a moments consideration, Michael shrugged and took a seat of his own on the park bench. The summer weather had him wearing jeans shorts and a black tank top, which left a few of his move obvious tattoos showing. There was the dog's head on his left bicep, and oddly enough a sheep dog and a sheep on his other arm. Significant, to him, of course. But to an outside observer, his choices could look odd.
"So, your brats are Owen and... " He trailed off, waiting for the man to fill in the girl's name.
Released, Tansi left one hand on her Dad's knee. Her gaze fixed on Owen, and she stared without hesitation, watching the boy through the fringe of her too long eyelashes. "You gots big ea's." She stated, smiling.

"Mm, ah that's Anao she's from somewhere else entirely." Pash replied while giving the other guardian a subtle but noticeable to the trained eye examination. He was inked, not uncommon these days and Pash was curious about their meanings. Often words and symbols tattooed on people had hidden meanings but the former Angel was a bit too prudent to ask about such things.
Anao hearing her name looked up and over and the two adults, an ' I didn't do anything' look clear on her face.
"My ears" Owen said firmly as he reached up to pet them. He liked his ears, they were his, she couldn't have them.

Michael, being observant (as a photographer) and paranoid (due to his other profession) was not unaware of Pash's examination. But, as the situation had no reason to set his hackles on end, he didn't react to it overmuch, but instead continued to watch the children begin to interact. "I have another daughter as well. My batling. Tansi doesn't interest her much." A self deprecating shrug, there. "Spoiled brat. A bit of a princess. So's Tansi."
The princess in question was studying Owen, her lower lip protruding and her arms crossed in front of her. "You gots 'em. I jus' wanna pet!" She reached out toward him, illustrating her point. And her father's as well. This was a girl used to getting her own way.

" Do you think that's a mainly a female thing or perhaps just your luck in child's personality?" Pash had very little experience with females in general never mind childlike ones. " Anao has moments of fussiness but it's not constant or normal." Of course Anao was also usually a bit too distracted to focus on being self centered all the time.
Owen was not used to such forwardness, no one outside his family had ever tried to touch him before , though grocery shopping tended to bring our scary people who looked like they might. Or ones who made strange nonsense noises and called him funny names.
Innately Owen's instincts told him to freeze up, if he stayed still chances were he wouldn't get hurt. " Still he manged to fight it enough to talk if not move. " Be gentle" he warned. Though they were big and a bit thick and floppy his ears were still sensitive and Owen didn't feel like having them hurt.

"I think they're spoiled brats, and I'd ruin a boy as much as I have the girls." For all that his words held irritation, he did not actually seem bothered by them. He watched Tansi approaching Owen, and he smiled to see her. Yes, his daughters were over indulged princesses. But they were his to indulge, and if he was ruining them, it was because he could not help but love them as he did.
Tansi was not unaware of her father, though she was far more interested in the ears of the boy she was now studying. Lip pouting out again, she managed to spare enough of her attention to scowl at him. "'m not a b'at."
And then, the passion flower child was back to Owen again, reaching out to lightly stroke the ears she managed to demand an audience with. She was, indeed, gentle, there was that much to be said for her touch. She was also amused, giggling in self satisfied enjoyment. "Soft. 'm not soft."
She touched her own ears then, disappointed by their lack of length and softness.

Pash nodded at the other man's statement. he had known parents who were simply incapable of strictly raising a child. It certainly didn't make them bad people just lenient. Still for all her proclaimed bratness Tansi seemed at least remotely well behaved.
Amber eyes were focused intently on Tansi as Anao watched the other girl's interacting with her brother. she was more curious then jealous, after all she could touch Owen's ears all the time and they shared a special licorice bond. Still she watched to make sure that that strange girl didn't do anything Anao deemed bad to her brother.
Owen stayed still during the petting but not from fear, he had relaxed at the first touch and found himself unbothered by it. He smiled when she had proclaimed him soft as if this was a new revelation. Mostly he was just happy for a compliment.
" Different" he stated calmly, there wasn't anything wrong with Tansi's ears they were just different than his much the same as how he and Anao had different ears and she and their father had different ones. Owen didn't know if anyone had the same ears.

He was not a man of stillness or silence, inactivity irritated him. So, when Pash's nod left him with no further conversation, Michael dug into his pocket of his shorts and pulled out a small digital camera. He fiddled with it almost absently, turning it on and shifting through a few of the stored picture. Half on an eye was still on Tansi though, watching for danger, or a good shot.
Either way.
Tansi, meanwhile was unaware of anything but the experience of the moment. She showed no concern for Anao's regard or for her Dad's. Owen had her attention, and while she could be flitty, her curiosity was not easily redirected. The bunny boy's proclamation of mere difference was somewhat lost on her. Hers weren't soft. That, at the moment, was what she wanted.
"'ko's ears like this." She stated reaching her hands above her head to indicate their height. Of course, the boy had no context for who 'ko' might be, but that didn't matter to her. "I got... I got..."
What did she have? Now Tansi eyed herself critically, a difficult task without a mirror. With Owen as her comparison, it was clear that she didn't have much, no interesting features to augment her appearance. "I dunno."

Pash kept an eye on what Micheal was doing but said nothing. He was not well versed in small talk Sure he had chatted with his comrades but that had been to kill time and had always been about something he knew and understood. Aide from charing leaf children Pash had no idea what might connect him to the other guardian and thus lead to an avenue of discussion.
"Different" Owen repeated with a smile. Really that was all there was to say about it. He didn't think he was any nicer becuase he was different, or that Anao was nicer because her ears pointed and Tansi's did not. Though to him Anao was nicer becuase she was his sister.
Owen lifted an ear to stretch it skywards. He wondered who this Ko person was and how she got her ears to stay up. His were always falling no matter what. He was the only person he knew who's ears hung down and wouldn't stand.
" You have nice hair" Anao pointed out. Hers' was a simple pure cranberry red but Tansi's was much nicer, fading into other colours all dark and bright.

Tasni was far from immune from compliments, even at so young an age. She lowered her eyes at Anao's words, and tugged lightly on one multi-colored lock. "Y'like i'?" she asked, in a giggling coo. Oh, this one would be a flirt when she got older, yes she would. "Da' says i's too long."
Her Dad's complaints might have something to do with her screams when he tried to brush out the knots, but, she wasn't going to bring that part up.
The Dad in question had his camera trained on the children, snapping a couple candid shots as they made the first tentative overtures into friendship. "They're not innocent for long." He commented, absently. "Life hits quick. I want her to be able to see herself unscarred."
An odd comment maybe, with too much expectation of pain. But he'd seen Earako, who he'd hovered over in hope of protecting, go cold with fear. And he still didn't know what had changed her so, not really. So much of her trust had left her. He wanted to remember Tansi like this, still willing to make friends of stranger, instead of waiting for the threat they might hold.

Anao nodded " It's very nice." Could she have traded hair with the other girl Anao would have done so in a heartbeat. He brother even had different hair all sandybrown and golden and black mixed together. Hers was just a plain boring red. " Long hair is nice. Dad has long hair" Anao pointed to Pashes' olive green hair which hung all the way down his back in a low ponytail.
Pash nodded to Micheal's comment. " I have no real experience with children but many I have spoken to say children grow up too fast and lose their wonder for the world.. I don't remember much of my childhood and if I was ever as carefree as them but if so I'm sure it was a happy time with memories I wish i had.." As he spoke Pash made a note to buy a camera of his own. not only might the children like to see themselves younger but he too would want to keep photos to remind himself of them like this.
Ignored, Owen let his focus stray from the girl and back into the rest of the park. Back to the grass which looked very very tasty. Reaching down he plucked a blade and brought it to his lips.

Oh how she preened, peering up at Anao with what could be interpreted as adoration in her eyes. It certainly looked that way. "I 'ike you." She pronounced, content with this decision, even if she didn't have more than five minutes of exposure to base it on. Her attention flitted over to Owen, who seemed intent on other things. Which was both disappointing and interesting. "W'atcha go'? I wan' some."
Eat grass, why not? She didn't want to be the only one NOT eating grass.
Michael, watching, did not seek to interfere, but only snapped a few more shots. "I don't think much about being a kid. I try to think of my kids instead." He sounded a bit gruff, but if there were memories he didn't care for, he quickly shook them off. "Want a copy of these?"

Anao grinned, she was liked and she liked that thought.
Owen chewed his own blade of grass before picked up another green blade and offered it in the palm of his hand to Tansi " Grass is good."
"I'd love a copy" Pash replied uncertain of what else to say.
