·:If you want one, it's only 200g. I can put any character you want on any key you want. It has to be in a font you have installed on your computer or it won't show up.

Just fill out these two forms by replacing each key with the character you want it to type.

normal:
`1234567890-=
qwertyuiop[](backslash)
asdfghjkl;'
zxcvbnm,./

+Shift
~!@#$%^&*()_+
QWERTYUIOP{}|
ASDFGHJKL:"
ZXCVBNM<>?

·:Please put
around these because the monospace font helps me.

I can also assign things to the extra backslash key found on some keyboards for no extra cost. (This is usually to the left of the Z key or left of the space bar)

If your keyboard isn't an American keyboard, that's fine too. Just tell me what kind it is and we'll work from there.

If you want, there's an extra 100g charge per dead key. (A dead key is a key you push, then push another to make accented characters. On my keyboard, for example, typing ' then a gives me á. '+A=Á)

If you want to assign keys to the right-alt (AltGr) then it costs 50g per key. (This I find more useful than a dead key. My example: to get á I can simply type AltGr + a. AltGr+Shift+a gives me Á)

I know this won't be useful for many of you who don't have special characters in your conlangs but it's fun if you want to add emoticon things, extra symbols, and just a few fun characters to easily make stuff like:
(°~•)/¯

I can also just alter a keyboard layout to make it easier to type things you commonly use. I'm sure you can think of some use for this.

I will work on a first-come, first-served basis. I will be working slowly because of business in my life.
This will create a .exe file that is Microsoft approved and only works in Windows. To uninstall your keyboard go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

I own and © each of my layouts. They're not available for resale or sharing.

But I'm still trying to figure out right-to-left languages so that might not be a possibility at the time being.

·:Here's how you should make your layout. Open up Character Map and decide what characters you want where. Then copy-paste them over their original characters. Don't worry about keeping all the characters for typing English if you're trying to type a completely different language. I'll teach you how to set it up so you can alternate between keyboard layouts by pressing ctrl+shift.

`1234567890-=
þðertøuiop[]
asdfghjkl;'
zxævbnm,·/

·:That's a lame example... but I'm sure you get the idea.

I suggest you keep punctuation where it normally is. i.e.: If your language uses a ¯ for a question mark, put the ¯ where the ? would be.

I R interested. Can you do IPA? If I could have a keyboard layout stuffed which a bunch of common of IPA symbols, it would be really convenient, since at the moment I'm stuck with the olde copy n' paste.

I'm in no rush, and I'm willing to pay nicely. I'm bursting with excess income.

·:Definitely. Just paste each IPA symbol over the letter that's now on the keyboard in my little template thingy. I'll get started when you've posted your layout.

Gha! Great! I'll get on that. I won't need any letters from semitic (script using) languages, so don't worry about that.

But about that "example" post above. What do you mean about "character map" and all that? I know nothing about computers. If I just take that green texted 'code' thing and paste what I want on the key I want and post that, will that work?

·:Yeah. Character Map is in Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map. But since you're doing IPA don't worry about it. Please remember that you also have SHIFT, AltGr, and SHIFT+AltGr. Don't limit yourself to the 47 or so keys that are listed.

Out of each key you can get 4 characters. My T key alone gets:
normal - t
SHIFT - T
AltGr - þ
AltGr+SHIFT - Þ

And a suggestion: You'll probably want the : key to be the triangular colon that's used in the IPA.

Thanks, I hadn't even thought about all those possibilities. Well see if I can't jam most of the IPA on there.

But one more thing before I get copy n' pasting. What is AltGr?

·:AltGr, if you choose to have it, is the right Alt key. You can also get it by pressing ctrl+alt.

Right alt key? Got it. Off I go.

EDIT: I'm just gonna edit this post here for convenience. I'll notify you when its done. Still in progress.

dʒ, tʃ, diphthongs and other symbols that are a combination of 2 are put in brackets to minimize obscurity. Don't assign the brackets!

Defalt Keys (for my reference)
`1234567890-=
qwertyuiop[]
asdfghjkl;'
zxcvbnm,./

Normal:
`1234567890-ʔ
qwɛɹtjʊɪopə]
ɑsdfgh[dʒ]klː'
zx[tʃ]vbnm,./

+Shift:
[eɪ][aɪ][ɔɪ][oʊ][aʊ]^&*()_+
QʍERθYuiɔP{}|
æʃðFGHʒKL;'
ZXCVBŋM<>?

AltGr:
`1234567890-=
qweɽʈyuiop[]
aʂɖfgʈʰjkl;'
z⁼cʋbɳm,./

AltGr+SHIFT:
`1234567890-=
qwertyuiop[]
asdfghjkl;'
zxcvbnm,./

One thing, since tʃ, dʒ and things are two individual symbols used together to represent 1 sound, can you make one key type them both as they are there? Or will I need to assign them separately and type both parts?

So you can assign it so that I can press 1 key, and the whole tʃ comes up? Allright then, good.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2007 2:12 pm

·:Oh, but if you're going to do that, put ¹ and ² in the character slots with footnotes telling me which is which. Otherwise it ruins the point of monospaced font.

·:I feel bad now because I found this:
http://www.rejc2.co.uk/ipakeyboard/

Of course that's not your own, customized version but it does have everything you need. If you still want to make your own it's ok but I wanted you to see this before you spent your money.
