One thing people don't get about the Rose mentions (and I'm not slating Martha here) is that Rose was special. Because she loved the Doctor and he loved her back. Freema herself said this.

I've got to admit, if I was Martha I'd be getting a bit sick of the mentions. It's like you've got a new boyfriend (or girlfriend) and they won't shut up about the last one.

I agree it is sorta annoying! I dont really like the idea of the doctor X anybody. Theres always a special connection but as for a full blown romance that irks me. Besides rose was a big flirt!

yes! people agree with me! I really hate the rose mentions. I think the writers are pulling it out a little too much. It's getting really annoying, and I've only seen up to smith and jones! I get that rose was special, but i agree with katybutterfly - Rose is gone and martha is here now. everyone needs to get over it - Quote: It's like you've got a new boyfriend (or girlfriend) and they won't shut up about the last one.

Well, yeah, she is, I'd say. But that's part of the character and plotline. KyotoPsycho - Yeah, but so was the Doctor (10th doctor anyway)

As someone whose only seen 'new Doctor Who' from Nine onwards, I think that the Rose-Doctor love relationship was a big mistake. While I liked it - because I'm a sappy romantic person - I thought it was over done after a while in a "ZOMG SHE SO SPESHAL SOULMATE OTP!!<3!!!"....but I still liked it. It was fun and we'd only ever known Rose as a companion....
So now Rose is gone EVERY SINGLE COMPANION will be compared to her. None will ever seem as SPESHAL. And all those companions that we new watchers have ever known? They sucked apparently, compared to Rose. None were ZOMG LOVED.
Hell, besides Sarah Jane, none ever even got mentioned. Not once. Not even in John Smith's diary did we see a drawing of one of his companions before Rose. 900 years of phone box travel! And yet....nothing but the Rose-era.
We should have had a couple of 'normal' and 'average' old fashioned companions that the Doctor didn't fall for (and they didn't obviously moon over him) before we had Rose, I think. Because the show never used to be all about following a romance, was it?
As for the Rose mentions since we got Martha - I'm sick of people blaming Martha for the dislike of the Rose mentions or even blaming her for loving the Doctor (in fandom in general, there's even communities based on it!) . Half the people who watch the show have a little crush on him....he's our main man, after all. Martha's travelling with him and I personaly can't blame her is she fell for him. And even if she didn't love him, I'd still be fed up of every episode having a 'Rooooooooooose' moment of WOE.
Enough emo-ness. Rose is gone. Could we not have just missed her for a bit, let her go and learnt to like Martha?? Martha was hated from the start by some people, just because she wasn't Rose returning from the other world. I love-hate Martha and find her as annoying as anyone else, but the 'she's not Rose' thing bugs me.
/end rant.
Sorry. But I've just got an email from one of the Doctor Who communities I'm in with a link to an essay about How Martha Was Rubbish - aka Not as Good As Rose. Swiftly read and deleted.

I loved Rose...with Eccleston, not so much with Tennant. They just did not have the same chemistry. I have gotten a bit tired of the 'woe is me' mentions in every episode. Mainly because Martha is wonderful with Tennant. They work so well together. My boyfriend feels the same. He was a bit put off last season because he disliked how Tennant and Rose played off each other. This season however he's loving it again...and also tired of the mentions. Mind you, he hasn't seen the finale yet. xd He's gonna cry I think.

I will admit, I am a Rose fan. She's not one of my most favorite companions, that honor goes to Sarah Jane, Ace and Jamie but that's another story. I liked Rose because I came from a similar background. I grew up poor and had to work for everything I got. In fact I never really thought that I would ever be able to afford to go to University. So I clicked with Rose because she was almost like me.
I did not like Martha from the little I saw of her because I don't think her character was allowed to develop enough. It was not Freema's fault, I blame the writers with this one. If they had written the scripts better and gave Martha a little more depth, I would have loved her. Maybe it's because I haven't seen all of the series yet, I just haven't connected with Martha and this makes me a little angry. I like it when I can identify with the companions. They are playing our role, giving us an incite to the Doctor's world. When they aren't given that chance, like Martha, their character seems to run a little flat.
Plus if you ask me, Rose was just RTD writing himself into the story so he could hook up with the Doctor.
That's my two cents. You don't have to agree.

Okay. I really don't lke Martha but not because that she's not Rose. I just really find her to be a real dink. I don't really mind the Rose mentions. In a way it's like keeping her alive in everyone. But, everyone's entitle to their own oppinions.

You don't see Rose tracking all the way across the world to save it. No, she simplifies and goes straight to the Eye of Harmony...
But it's good. They're both decent companions in their own right, but the only companion that the Doctor ever had a right to complain about getting killed/lost/leaving was Adric (who I'm not too fond of), and even then he didn't spend half of each episode talking about "I wish I could have gone back and saaaaaaaved him!!"
But then, he had Tegan and Nyssa and had to set an example xP

I don't mind the Rose mentions- I liked her and sort of wish she would come back. But then I don't, because that would render the second season finale meaningless (and it was pretty sad- it made me cry, and i bartely ever cry due to a story). And, if I was Martha, I'd probably feel exactly the way she does. But she overplays the "Why doesn't he love me?" thing a bit too much. And what did the comment mean about Rose being RTD writing himself into the story to hook up with the Doctor?! I'd never heard that he was gay. And even if he is (which is perfectly fine, I'm for gay rights), I don't think he would do that. But why do people think that he might?

Because his scripts are, for the most part, bad Doctor Who fanfiction. And fanfiction writers almost always write themselves into their fanfics, usually as a mary-sue character. I personally feel like all the relationships in the new serieses are totally contrived. With Nine, it was OK though because while he loved her, he didn't openly show it very often. Ten does/did though. ALL THE TIME.
