I like making threads.
Lets talk about languages, translate phrases and words, and you know... do stuff!
I'm your Swedish teacher and you can all be my English teachers and... you probably know other languages.

When I was in... högstadiet... what's that in the American school system? >_<
Well, when I was in the something me and my friend wrote secret messages with hieroglyphs. You know, they had a sound-alphabet for foreign names. We learned it. I've forgot it now though sad

Högstadiet? Is it a class, or a series of class? A grade? ^^;; Maybe explain it a bit, and we can tell you what it is.

Blade and Chalice Högstadiet? Is it a class, or a series of class? A grade? ^^;; Maybe explain it a bit, and we can tell you what it is.

It might be high school... I'm not sure.
Years 7-9 (school years, not age). The last three years of compulsory school attendance.

It might be that your grades are different...we get up to grade 12 over here, for mandatory schooling.
Middle school is what we would call our grades 6-8, or 7-9 depending on the location. In some places Elementary school spans 1-6th grade.
9-12th is High School. But what your describing sounds like High school...it's even got an "H" in it. wink

can also mean 'pile' but... it's supposed to mean 'high' in this context.

At one point in time I use to be able to say "Hello, how are you." in 10 languages....
Now I just, and I mean this literally, BARELY know Japanese, Latin, Spanish, German, French.
I can say hello in those languages and a bit more but not much at all.
And I can say hello in Portuguese, Chinese, Korean(or Arabic I always forget), and I am really wanting to learn Irish xD And of course more of those languages I named.
Please don't ask me to be a translator T.T
But my main language is English.

I know more Spanish than Chinese. This is depressing for an Asian. In fact, if I get stranded in Spain, I will survive. China, on the other hand...

Xumbra I know more Spanish than Chinese. This is depressing for an Asian. In fact, if I get stranded in Spain, I will survive. China, on the other hand... I just got back from Spain a week ago, and much to my dismay, many people strived to be very accomodating to me as a tourist and spoke whatever English they could.
I was disappointed by that because I wanted to strengthen my Spanish-speaking abilities by conversing with native speakers, while relying on English as little as possible.
We sort of just developed a routine where I would speak in Spanish, and they would respond in English. -_-

I wish I was some scholarly linguist like some of the people here. I prefer instant gratification...yay dubbing!
It's not really a matter of convenience as it is a lack of proficiency for me. I'll have to wait a few more years before I'm good enough to completely understand the rapid talk on television.
Until then...dubbing it is along with crash-and-burn attempts to understand.
