Back and forth. Back and froth. The brunette stared down at her feet, toes in the sand as she pushed herself lazily on the swing. Dressed in a sleeveless grey blouse and khaki shorts, the girl sported a casual look. Her black hair was tied in it's usual manner as when she went to school.
The swing slowed to a stop and Minori frowned, using a foot to support her as she pushed it backwards to continue its swing as she let herself be comfortable. Lately, she had become confused with her own feelings, confused with...everything. Brown eyes stared at the surroundings, to check if the bodyguards her father promised would follow her were around. So far, she didn't see any.

Commoner Outfit XDTakumi jogged down the sidewalk, trying to keep up with the Irish setter that seemed to have endless amounts of energy. "Mikan! Slow down, girl!" he called, wiping his brow. The family dog, though Takumi liked to think that she was his, replied with a happy bark, not once slowing down her pace. He sighed and sped up after her.
It had been his idea to walk the dog. Of course, no one would hear of it; it was easily the job of the mansion's servants. Takumi had spent the morning persuading them to allow him to go out. He needed some fresh air, and a little exercise never hurt anyone. So they say. I'm going to die at this rate, he grumbled inwardly, chasing Mikan down another block.
He was dressed as plainly as he could, a blue shirt and cargo pants, trying to go for the commoner look: one who was just out for a walk, nothing big. Though if anyone in the household had seen him in such clothes, Takumi wouldn't live to see the daylight. He'd therefore thrown an expensive jacket over his attire, and had removed it immediately after the mansion was out of sight. Said jacket was now tied haphazardly around his waist, jostled by his attempt to control Mikan.
Turning a corner, he spotted the dog sniffing a tree next to the city park. Her tail wagged happily as she started to roll on the grass. "Hey! You're going to get fleas! Then I'll never hear the end of it..." He reached Mikan and started scolding her, glancing up now and then to see if he was attracting any unwanted attention. The park was mostly empty except for someone at the swings. Takumi blinked and looked again. The girl seemed familiar... he moved closer to get a better look.

'So, did you reject me just because you thought a long-distance relationship couldn't work out?' Theo's words echoed through her mind. And what did she say? Nothing. She had merely stared at him and stammered out that she needed to go, switching the web cam off. And now? She had fallen in love with somebody, but she couldn't find it in herself to admit to Theo. She cared about him, but just as a elder brother. " I hate Cupid." Minori mumbled under her breath, cursing the Greek God that shot arrows of love. Tears prickled behind her eyes, threatening to spill out as she tried to blink them back.
If Takumi was worried about people seeing how he was reacting to his dog, he needn't, since the girl was too lost in her own thoughts. Minori leaned against one of the metal chain that held the swing up, looking at the ground with an evidently upset expression.

Takumi was close enough to see that the girl was upset. Did I somehow unconsciously offend her? he thought wildly. Mikan had sauntered over and was sniffing curiously at her master's feet. "Stop that," he hissed, picking up a fallen twig and chucking it with all his strength in the opposite direction. The dog's ears perked and she bounded off after it.
Looking back at the swings, Takumi shrugged to himself and wandered over. The girl's hair was in the way so he couldn't really make out the face. Though the hairstyle was one that he knew. Aaah... that's... Minori's hair! Yes, that's it. He grinned triumphantly. But why's she so sad? The grin left his face as he slowly made his way to the sandy lot surrounding the swing set.
"Uhmm... Minori?" he called softly, not sure if he was intruding.

The swing has slowed to a stop yet again, but Minori hadn't bothered to push it back into it's motion. Am I fickle? Stupid, stupid me. I shouldn't be even born. Then all this wouldn't have happened. I'm a stupid, good for nothing person. This was usually the case with her; when she was feeling down, all she did was blame herself and wish she could die. Nobody knew that, however.
At the sound of the voice, that familiar voice, Minori knew exactly who it was before her face snapped up. "Takumi?" She whispered, through a rather blurred vision. Suddenly, as if just realising who he was, she held a hand to her eyes and shook her head slowly for a while. When she removed the hand, the girl was smiling, a soft, quiet smile, but anyone that knew her would definitely see the difference. The sparkle that was usually in her eyes was dulled, almost gone.
Oh, if only he knew that he was indirectly the cause of her acting like this.

Takumi frowned. The girl was indeed Minori, but she didn't have the usual atmosphere of the Minori he knew. I'm probably interfering, but... He walked over until he was next to the bars supporting the swings. Leaning against them, he inclined his head at her.
"Something the matter? If you need someone to talk to, I'm here now." He lapsed into silence. Now what do I say? I guess I'm not very good at comforting people... There was another moment of dull silence before a wet nose made its way into his palm. "Mikan!" he sighed. The dog blinked innocently up at him, the twig clamped securely in her mouth. She wagged her tail and whined. Takumi tugged the twig out of her mouth and pretended to throw it. Of couse, Mikan didn't need to know that. The dog took off once more across the field, searching for the twig.

There was a thought haunting her mind that she couldn't shake off. Did she like Takumi just because she wanted to escape from Theo? Her brain seemed confused, fuzzy, and didn't seem to be able to give her an answer. Still, she couldn't deny how fast her heart pounded when he came closer. s**t, he knew? Knew something was bothering her? "I'm fine." She gave him a weak smile, trying not only to convince him, but to convince herself. "Girl problems." She shook her head with a rueful grin. Which was rather true.
"Push me?"She inclined her head towards the back of the swing, trying to distract him. It wasn't something she could talk about, since it involved him. Darn her stupid indecisive mind.

"Ah..." He dropped the twig in his hand. "Well maybe you can... talk with one of your girl friends then." He scratched the back of his head and decided not to prod any further. Minori seemed quite unwilling to talk about it. Takumi straightened himself before making his way around the swing set.
"I... sure." He grabbed the swing's chains and pulled back on them slightly before letting them go. Hm... the weather was nice; not too hot nor too cold... there was just enough wind for occasional light breezes. He raised his head to look at the sky, taking another breath of fresh air as he pushed Minori slowly on the swing.

"I'll...be fine." Minori gave him a tentative smile, then stared back down at the sand at her bare feet. A sigh escaped her lips for a moment before she watched him walk behind.
Her legs straightened out as the swing swung forward, and bent back as it swung back. To tell the truth, she could do this by herself...but...this was much better, in a sense
"Takumi..."She hesitated as she swung back, head lowered with a sigh. "Do you love anyone?" Heck, it was better to get it over and done with. His answer might break her heart, but she wanted to know, as soon as possible, so she could deal with it. Still, secretly in her heart, she hoped he would feel the same way. But it was almost impossible. She didn't have good luck when it came to romance.

Takumi stepped back as the swing gained momentum. His eyes flitted to Mikan, who was still sniffing excitedly in the grass for the twig, before turning his attention back to the swing.
"Love anyone? Outside of family, I take it?" There was a hint of a smile in his voice. "Well I've had my share of childhood crushes and all, but... I'm not dating anyone right now." He stretched a little as Minori swung forward. So her "girl problem" was a love problem, then? He didn't really have much experience there... perhaps it really was best for her to talk with someone else.
"Though right now... Well school's just started and I haven't really gotten to know all the first years. Let alone everyone in 1A. I suppose as the school year progresses... maybe." That was a lame response, he chided himself.

"Well, I wouldn't be as nosy as to ask you about your family." Minori joked back, forcing a smile on her face even though he couldn't see it. He wasn't dating anyone? That was good. Hope welled up inside her.
She stopped swinging her legs at his next sentence, dragging her feet in the sand to stop it. That meant...he didn't like anyone. While that was good in a way, it meant he didn't like any other girl, but it also meant...he didn't like her. The little devil in her head began teasing her again. What? You thought he would actually like a person like you? Stubborn, stupid, and you're not really pretty anyway. Your life sucks. Face it. Just go and die now, no one's going to miss you. And for once, the little angel was speechless, not rebutting the mocking statements. Dazed, Minori wondered how she could hurt herself so much. A tear ran down her face as she forced herself to stare downwards at the sand, trying to blink back the rest.
"That's not true." She said quietly. "Sometimes, love comes even though you don't know the person well."

"Maybe you're right..." he said thoughtfully. "I haven't stopped to think about it."
Mikan wandered over to him, having given up on the search for the twig. She suddenly noticed the missing twig in question that was lying next to the swings. Picking it up, the Irish setter trotted over to Takumi happily and deposited the item at his feet.
Takumi glanced down and gave Mikan a quick pat on the head. "Sorry about that, girl." The dog gave a bark and flopped down next to her master, tired from the day's antics. Takumi laughed. "Well, that's a first. She's usually never tired... or maybe it's because she doesn't go out that much."
His smile wavered a little. "I'm sorry there's not much I can do to make you feel better..." He sighed softly and continued to push Minori.

"Perhaps it's because..."Minori paused for a while, finally realizing the presence of the tear and wiped it away, hoping her eyes didn't look red and puffy. "You haven't experienced it yet?" She turned to look at him with a fake cheerful smile plastered on her face.
Brown eyes widened in apparent delight as she spotted the dog trotting over. Before he could push the swing, she got up, bending down to look at the dog at eye level. "Hey girl." She said softly, stroking the silky brown fur.

"Perhaps," he agreed. "Though who knows what is to come? It might change today, tomorrow, whenever. I'll just wait and see." He looked sadly at Minori's teary eyes. I do wish I could make her feel better...
He steadied the swing before walking around it to Minori and the dog. "Her name's Mikan," he said, patting the Irish setter on the head. "She's quite the energetic dog. I was actually out walking her before I saw you... or rather, she was walking me." He smiled sheepishly at the image of himself chasing Mikan down a few blocks. It must have been quite a sight.
"By the way, are you out here all alone?" he asked, glancing around the park.

There was a silent pause as Minori took this in. She didn't know what she should feel at this, the girl was feeling confused, like she was being blown in different directions, this way and that. Love was so...confusing.
"She's adorable." The girl scratched the dog behind the ears. She only had a kitten and a rabbit, but what Minori really wanted was a dog, which her parents had said no too. I guess two pets are quite enough... Still, there was this hope in her, and she never stopped bugging them, especially her father. And he was starting to relent, she could see. But what if her mother protested? The girl gave a sigh.
"I...should be." Something clicked in her head and Minori remembered the bodyguards that her father had mentioned. Still, she didn't see anyone, either they weren't here, or they were doing a very good job of hiding from her.
