About the character
Name: Ryan Johnson
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: British, white
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 15 stone
Eyes: Grey
Hair: light brown
Occupation: Horror novel writer and delivery driver for Parcaline
Likes: Writing, horror, thriller, slasher movies and books; as long as it has plenty of blood and gore, books and documentries about real serial killers (although this is purely for research basis), cats (has 2), Sci fi movies, writing, storytelling, one of his books being published, most music except pop; such as Lincoln park, Queen, Gorillaz, fast food, his mum's home cooking, computer games like Doom, GTA, Conflict Desert Storm,
Dislikes: Ignorance, vampire and werewolf novels, queues, children, romantic movies/chick flicks and books, dogs, diets, how anime has been so generic
Fears: Plagiarism, never to publish any books, his imagination, being helpless, irrating biting bugs, getting alzheimer's disease, going bald, dying slowly.
Habits: Ryan isn't a big drinker, he'd go out and get drunk with mates, but not every weekend and since starting writing, not as often as he used to. Smoking never really caught on with Ryan either, he used to smoke as a teen, but kinda grew out of it and only smoked on social nights out with a beer, but only because most of his mates around him smoked. With illegal drugs, Ryan stays way clear of the hard stuff as it scares him how dangerious it could be and isn't willing to take a risk. Ryan has smoked a joint once or twice, but he wasn't fond of the taste and again only smoked it if it was on offer.
Appearance: Ryan has a stocky build, but obviously isn't into exercise as he's also overweight and has a beer belly to boot. He is in desperate need of a hair cut; it's very scruffy and unkept, apparently the 'in' thing, although he's had the same hair style (if you could call it that) when it was 'out' and no doubt will still have it when it's been 'in' and 'out' again. His chin is just as neglected, although whenever he feels inclined he does have a shave, but not until he starts resembling an obese Shaggy look-alike. (which is most of the time) Clothes wise, Ryan goes casual, but he does take pride in what he wears. Dark shades is a must, for whenever he goes out. An open loose light brown or plait shirt over a black T-shirt with dark jeans and white trainers is his current fashion trend. Although he does have a red shirt too.
Personality: Ryan can be self centred and thinks of his own wants or needs before others, this can mean he's quite selfish and have no empathy towards other people's feelings, although it's not usually on purpose and he does have it in him to be nice. He can be quick to temper, but never violent towards anybody, the door or wall usually takes the brunt if he's really upset, otherwise he'll shout and make snide comments before sulking. Ryan can be quick witted when he's on the game, and is sometimes seen as morbid in his sense of humour with an edge of sarcasm. He can be seen as controlling, wanting people to do what he says because quite frankly, he believes he's right, and when he's not, well it's difficult for him to see when he is wrong so doesn't take that into consideration most of the time. He can see, however, when someone seems to know what they are talking about and although it clashes with his controlling side, he does prefer not to be seen as a leader of a group and would rather do his own thing or mooch on the sidelines offering guidance or criticism. Ryan also has a suspicious streak and always beleive people do things because there's something in it for them. There is no such thing as charity for nothing in his mind.
With his writing, Ryan enjoys coming up with 'creative' ways of his characters killing others. He emerges himself into all his characters, victims, police and killers, even the nonessential characters as that is how he believes make his stories realistic. He loves the feel of power when one of his creations is hunting and torturing another, he loves how he can hear his own heartbeat and feel a cold sweat when he is writing about the victims fear and pain as if they were his own. Hours can be lost, but pages are made and the memories of his feelings during writing still linger on the edge of his mind, tantalizing him. Although he feels high when writing about these things, he knows its something that will always stay locked away in his mind, like a beast in a cage only to be let out on paper. He has no desire to become like his creations, no matter how appealing it may seem in fiction.
History:Unlike most writers, Ryan hasn't been writing all his life or most of his childhood, he played sport mainly in his spare time or played computer games, writing just wasn't appealing at that time. It wasn't until his later teen and early young adult years did he need to scratch the creative itch and found himself writing one boring winter night about a girl taking revenge on her bullies by kidnapping the main bully and using a knife to disfigure her face and torturing her until leaving her to starve to death tied up in the middle of now where. Very immature and still makes Ryan cringe at such terrible writing, but that was the spark he needed and more ideas came to his pen, some were good, but most were terrible, although that didn't stop him.
Five years later and Ryan has 4 novels almost finished, one a sequel and one published to his delight. It had taken over two years to get something published and now, unless it was fantasy based or for children and young adults or both, it was difficult to get anyone interested. Now he had a contract to write two more books in three years. Ryan is already half way through his second book and the third is still in planning stages.
Family wise, Ryan moved out of his mum's home when he turned 18, he has no brothers or sisters and his dad left his mum two years previous. He doesn't visit often, but will phone her every once in a while out of the blue, last he checked she was in a serious relationship. His dad hasn't made contact since leaving, Ryan doesn't care about him one bit either. Ryan had no plans to go to university, but did go to college for an ICT course and got bored halfway so quit, obviously game designing wasn't for him. Ryan drifted from job to job, had several girlfriends, but none of it was overly serious. It just wasn't what he was looking for and he couldn't decide what career he wanted.
It wasn't until he published his first book, did he realise his calling, but stayed working as a delivery man to keep the bills paid. Now he aspires to become as rich as J.K.Rowling and as well known as Steven King (but of course better). So far his books sales are steady.
The Pukka:Ask Ryan what a Pukka is and he'd say some Japenese chocolate or sweet. He'd never believe you, if you said that the old leather bound journal he found in a car boot sale was one. It was a good deal too, it looked old and the red leather snakeskin that protected the yellow blank pages looked as though it should've been worth more then a pound fifty (looked as though it was a very big snake too). It was completely unused, there was no marks, no writing and no logo to say who made it except for a small red gem in one of the center scales on the front. Ryan has been carrying it around with him, not sure whether to use it or what, he feels some sort of connection to the old journal, a type of fondness, but he can't put his finger on why and can't bring himself to use it like a regualar notebook for his ideas.
What he takes with him:Luckily he was snatched away when he was outside, so was fully clothed (sorry ladies) and was carrying his old, fabric brown 'man bag' satchel which contained:
Car and house keys
Black wallet with his debit card and credit card and various other plastic cards that have no real use
Driving license
£15
The red leather bound journal (which was really in his hand when he was transported but has a home in here)
A blue pen
Mobile phone (cellphone)
Chocolate lion bar
Packet of walker crisps (like potato chips but tastes 100% better)
Half a bottle of Dr. Pepper
Notebook three forths filled with short stories, ideas and some drafts of his current book.
The manuscript of the current book he's trying to get published.
