What made you like Alice 19th?
It's never caught my attention like Fushigi Yugi SS and GB or Imadoki! or Ceres (or even Absolute Boyfriend.. even tho I don't read it. sweatdrop ), but I think I'd check it out if I felt I had reason to (plus, I'm just plain curious.)
What makes it another Yuu Watase speshful manga?

Well the artwork caught my attention and once I started to read it, it was a good one to read because of the plotline and the characters. It's something worth reading. smile

I like Kyou ^.^
But the thing that really got me was one, it was Yuu Watase's work, and they're always good, no matter what. Everything, romance, humor, some action...So on so forth.
But, the other thing was the main character, Alice. Watase's heroines are famous for usually being fiery and confident. Alice is unique in that she's the exact opposite. So it's new and I myself find it easier to relate to Alice than I do to any of the other heroines.

I walked in to a book store and found this open book on the floor. There was a cute boy kissing another cute boy half naked . . . that sure caught my attention. So I began reading it. Walked out with Volume 1 and 2 and now i have them all.

Well I had to write a prequel for school of a movie/book/tv show of my choice. I chose the movie Alice in Wonderland. So, during the time I had to write my paper I went to a book store and saw the manga Alice 19th. I thought it was like a Japanese version of Alice in Wonderland so I read the first chapter and asked some gaians about it. It turns out my friend has the whole series so she let me borrow it and there ya go!

I own only the first 3 volumes.
A friend of mine actually got me into this one...^^;;

But basically what hooks readers into this one was the fact that it was by Watase-sensei. Her books had been a hit thus far, so readers pay attention to her books naturally if they liked her work.

Well, I can honestly say though, I like the main character this time.
I also liked Frey. >.< I go for the pervert types. lol.

But I hated Mayura at first too..

Well, I bought it because it was by Yu Watase! When I first read it I wasn't sure I liked it but after a while It kinda grew on me.
I like the storyline and characters...and think it's a wonderful series.

I started reading this because it was one of the very few manga that my public library had, but I kept reading it because I love Alice. She's not like Watase's other heroines, she's quiet, shy, and not very self-assured (though she grows through the series). Alice is more of a down-to-earth heroine that a lot of people can relate to (or maybe it's just me...)

Tbh, this is one of my least favorite manga of hers post-Fushigi Yuugi. It isn't a bad manga by any means (it's still 100x better than most of the other tripe that tends to run in Sho-Comi) but the story never became my favorite, as I don't read mahou shoujo manga too much anymore (although Alice 19th is much more mature than most mahou shoujo series).

The part that really interested me was the [dysfunctional] relationship between Alice and her sister, Mayura. I have a younger sister and well, I definitely feel that we can be like the pair--we love each other dearly but sometimes we just wanna kill the other (not literally, of course!). Alice also progressed really nicely throughout the series.

I still own the tankoubon and I still finished reading it the entire way through (Frey's a cutie~), but Watase's other stuff like Ayashi no Ceres, Imadoki! (wonderful slice of life series that's very overlooked, I think), and Genbu Kaiden are more my style, storywise.
