Now. Homosexuality is one of the most misunderstood things of all time in my country. Our president even recently tried to ban it, coughimpeachbushcough. It is obvious that people need to be able to discuss, talk, and explain their own personal feelings on the subject.
Now, if you have read my signature, you will see that I am gay. This does not mean that I am one of those lisping Abercrombie and Fitch model wannabes. I'm just a feminine boy who sometimes likes to crossdress. Another stereotype.
Homosexuality's biggest enemy is usually religion, in America, specifically, Christianity. I do not exactly know much about it myself, but I do have a link that explains quite a bit about it from the Extended Discussion. Ish a link to the afore mentioned thread!
Next would be, of course, same sex marriage. Many people have vast opinions on this, and I would be writing for quite a few months before I finished about ten people's explanations. Some say no, some say civil partnerships, some simply disagree on semantics, giving the same rights and simply not officially NAMING it marriage, etcetera.
So, the topics are: Same sex marriage. Homosexuality and religion Opinions on homosexuality Same sex adoption Anything having to do with homosexuality.
Well, discuss! ^^

--Stereotype-- *Dies* That's one of the biggest problems! Stupid stereotyping! [-Homosexuals, transvestites, and everything other thing in life too x.X-] I mean it's not that big of a day if you are a flaming gay or a raging drag queen. But geebus people really do need to open their eyes and realize that you don't have to act like that to be gay or anything else.
--Religion-- I, myself, don't everything about Christianity [-nor does anyone else-] but when it comes to the Roman Catholic bit of it I do know a good bit seeing as how I was raised strict Catholic. He brings up some very good points in his bit there at the beginning. And I agree with him. People misinterpret a LOT of things. However, my biggest problem with the Bible is people getting every last bit of it drilled into their head and living completely by it. How many times has that damned book been translated?! Waaaaaay too many. We have no idea whether or not it's the same that was first written. Not to mention [-from a Catholic point of few (Catholics believe Jesus and God to be completely different people and other religions apparantley think differently?-] that book was written by a human. A lot of the Bible was written by Jesus's disciples and it is proved that the last bit of it was added much later [-as in a good long time after Jesus died-]. Plus you shouldn't press your religion on everyone else. Not every one's religions say it's wrong so you shouldn't make it a law based on this. But they do that a lot [-like I've mentioned in my own thread separation of religion and state-]
--Same sex marriage-- Same sex marriage should be legal. The thing of it is. Love is love get over it. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean s**t. My way of thinking it [-and one of my favorite quotes >.>-]: "If you don't like same sex marriage's don't get one and shut up about it"
--Same sex adoption-- There are a LOT of kids with out parents out there. They need some one to take care of them. The state can't do it all. And having your own parents who love you makes life so much easier. If you were needed to give your own child up for adoption wouldn't it be more important to give it to some one who really loves them over anything else? The state can provide shelter, food, and clothes but not love. Just because you're a homosexual doesn't mean you can't love a child. And the whole theory about turning the kid gay.... What. The. ******** comment v.V
--Me-- Personally I'm bi. I think people date people not genders. And I LOVE gay guys. Usually. They're more fun than normal guys are most of the time. They end up being more relaxed about stuff. Unless yer' my uncle x.X I like all different stereotypes of homosexuals and all of the normal ones too [-I use the term normal VERY loosely-] [-Except uber dykes. Sorry. They scare me x.x (But so do really muscly testosteroney guys. It's the over manly-ness I think.)-] Homosexuals are people. I don't understand why people just can't except that and get off their high horses.
--Whew!-- I'm very liberal and oppionated about this subject. Hehe sweatdrop

Have you ever had one of those awkward moments when you realize that someone has forgotten that you are gay? Like, they make some random comment and you just stare blankly at them and they realize, "Wait, no, that's not right...." It's a bit offsetting, especially since i'm not exactly closeted in my actions and comments, but it's still odd to try to comprehend.

Stereotyping is inevitable. People have stereotypes for everything. And labels for everything/everyone. Though, this world would be a way better place without labels and stereotypes, I don't see them going away anytime soon *leh sigh*.
Religion is complicated, just like the people who belong to them. No, not all Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin, but a lot of them do. I know a lot of religious people that don't have issues with homosexuality and bisexuality, but I also know a lot that do.
Same sex marriage should be legal. Love doesn't depend on gender.
Yes, I am bisexual.
Also, I've got many homosexual friends and I love them! They're some of the friendliest and most loving people I know.

of course people stereotype. It's evolutionarily inbred in us to attempt to come up with an example, a "prototype" whenever we attempt to think of an idea. The problem comes when we allow others to define our prototypes for us, without truly thinking about the source of their ideas for ourselves. If you don't think that's a problem, see what happens when you try and take all of Leviticus for real, instead of just the anti-homosexuality verse that gets thrown around a lotQuote: Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses sex advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that as anobservant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abominaton according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in anyircumstance. The followingis an Open Letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet:
Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your radio show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advise from you, however, regarding some of the specific Bible laws and how to follow them. a)When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? b)I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? She's 18 and starting University. Will the slave buyer continue to pay for her education by law ? c)I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. d)Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? ......Why can't I own Canadians? e)I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should this be a neighborhood improvement project ? f)A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? g)Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? Would contact lenses help ? h)Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? i)I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? j)My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confidentyou can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

Resident, not President. And yes, they were spoofing her and revealing all sorts of uncomfortable truths about this supposedly literal view of the bible.
