Papina would have purred if she could have, feeling the blessed sunlight kiss her green skin before her skin absorbed the light. She had managed to get out of the house with neither hovering parent nor annoying sibling tagging along. She was in her favorite spot in the park now, alone and basking in the light of the sun; to her, that was all that mattered.
Now... if only she could keep from being disturbed yet again...
((... but alas, destiny said it wasn't meant to be... <<; I think it's Papina's destiny to meet new scroll kids at the park... After all, there's been only two scroll kids that Papina didn't first meet at the park, and one was seen briefly and the other is her sibling, so...))

Though the day was warm, Nate still would not take off the heavy fireman's outfit that Nara had given him. Talner figured that the heat must not affect the boy as much as normal people, giving the fact that the kid produced heat of his own. Or something like that. The kid could just be stubborn.
"Now run along and play, Nate." Talner told the boy, carefully shooing him off. There were all kinds of other kids here, hopefully the boy would meet up with some of them and play together. The kid needed some friends. Perhaps Talner should call Peri over. Peri's boy wasn't that much older than Nate, really. Perhaps those two could become better friends.
Nathaniel frowned as he looked around the park. There were a lot of bigger kids running around... The boy slowly wandered around, trying to find a spot that wasn't so crowded with rough boys.

Papina had managed to find a quiet spot to be by herself. It involved not being anywhere near any of the playgrounds. Instead, she was in the middle of one of the gardens within the park limits. It was still near-ish the biggest of the playgrounds, but she was hidden from sight of curious little eyes.
She frowned as she opened in her eyes to turn to look in a certain direction. Was that another scroll child she was sensing? If it was, it wasn't any of the ones she had met already...
... Of course, it could also be her stomach saying she was hungry. She sighed before getting up and heading out of the garden towards the nearest playground. There was bound to be a drinking fountain nearby that could quiet her stomach until she got home.
The park is a wide open area that not only holds many swing-sets, basketball courts, sandboxes, and other things to entertain children with, it also contains many gardens in which young couples may walk through and under, and picnic areas for families to cook and dine at. There is a large fountain near the middle, in which the water falls into a nearby swimming pool. A kiddie pool sits near the larger pool, and a low fence encircles both bodies of water, keeping young toddlers out. There are also secluded areas, roofed areas, large areas, small areas. Different types of pathways stretch across the park, leading to nearly anyplace anyone wishes to go.

Papina's movement caused Nate's attention to move out in that direction. Something had moved out there.... something... familiar... "MOMMY?!" The boy shouted in disbelief, running towards that familiar feeling. This thing felt almost like his mommy had. And kind of how his daddy felt to him now. But this was definitely a she-person.
Talner looked up at Nate's shout. The boy had sounded excited, something that only rarely happened with the boy. Even after Nara had bonded them together, the boy was still heartbroken over his mother abandoning him. The man saw Nate running and jogged off after the kid. Even if the woman came back now, Nate was his charge. He was responsible for the boy.
Wait.... why was he thinking like that...? Oh gods he really was a father now...

Papina paused before she raised her head from its position above the fountain, hearing a rather odd shout. "... Huh?" Children calling for their moms was familiar, calling as if they couldn't believe they were there was another matter. The leaves on her head quivered with curiosity and suppressed anticipation.
That feeling she had earlier was starting to get stronger too, as if they were coming closer....

Nate ran a short distance before he realized that the familiar feeling wasn't coming from his mother. She had abandoned him... he remembered that now. Daddy had said that she wouldn't be coming back. Nate knew that was probably true... but he still held hopes that she'd return one day. The boy looked closer at this familiar person. She didn't even look like his mother. For one... she was green. "Uh... hi..."
Talner slowed as Nate did, watching the boy walk up towards a strange looking, green girl with leaves on top of her head. Okay, strange kid meets strange kid. But why did Nate suddenly call out for his mother? The man lurked from a distance to observe and see if Nate really knew this girl.

Papina blinked and watched as some small kid in a fireman's suit came running up to her before saying hi.
Hot... Hot... HOT! She subconsciously took a step or two back from him, her leaves starting to wilt from the heat radiating from this kid. Her head started to hurt, and she was finding it becoming harder and harder to think. It took a bit to work moisture back into her mouth to say a rather subdued and drawn out "Hi..." in return. Why was he bothering her, and why was she feeling so hot all of a sudden?

Nate peered at the girl. Why was she acting kinda funny? "I'm Nate." The boy mumbled, wondering just why this girl felt so... comforting. Did he know her from somewhere or something? That'd be hard, considering he didn't really know anyone...

Papina took another step back to try and get away from the heat. I didn't seem to help any. "I'm Papina..." She couldn't help but ask, "Are you perhaps a scroll kid? ... Your scroll wouldn't happen to have anything to do with fire per chance, would it?" It didn't take long for her to figure out that might seem like she was prying on its own, so she quickly added, "I'm a scroll kid. My scroll is poison ivy. That means I'm a plant, and plants and fire... well... they really don't get along very well..."

Nate nodded to the first question. Yes, he'd come from a scroll. "It was... a comet..." The boy looked at the girl. A plant made sense. "Oh... Well, I make things hot... around me. It's hard to make it stop." He frowned at that. He'd had a class and was doing better, but it was still hard. At least his clothes wouldn't burn anymore. As long as he kept wearing these same ones over and over... and over and over again.

"A comet?" Well, that would make sense... sorta. "I make oils that are always on my skin... and it tends to give people rashes..." she sighed at the last part. She couldn't touch most people with her bare skin. She gave him a rather strained look before adding, "Ah... I don't suppose you at least quit putting out so much heat, could you?" It was either that, or she'd drench herself in water and see how long it would take before her clothes fully dried.

Nate's face screwed up as the boy concentrated for a few very long moments. It seemed that in his brief spurt of excitement, he'd lost some control over his heat production without even noticing it. He frowned and thought hard, eventually cooling himself down a few degrees. Not much of a difference, but it was enough to be a bit noticeable, particularly to anyone feeling for it.
Finally, Nathaniel looked back up. "That's all I can do..." he told Papina, a bit sheepishly.

Papina felt the air cool down and heaved a sigh of relief. "Every little bit helps if you're a plant," she told him in all seriousness. Still, she went to take another drink of water and even went so far as to splash some of the water on her face. "So..." she started, "was that you calling for your mom? Do you need help finding your guardian?" She did a quick scan of the place to see if there was a woman somewhere looking for Nate. The fact that he could have a male guardian went completely over her head.
As did the fact that what she just said might not have been the right thing to say to Nate.

Nate gave a bit of a nod, not really understanding a lot. Well, it made sense that not everything liked heat. Like his daddy's hand. If it got too hot, his hand burned and it hurt him. At Papina's questions, Nate suddenly dropped into emo mode. "Uh... yeah..." He knew he was a bit too old to be yelling across the park for his mother. After all, he was almost a teenager, something that was almost beyond the boy.
Papina's second question caused a few tears to start to form in the corners of his eyes, though they soon evaporated, leaving salt crusted to his face. The boy turned to look for Talner, wiping his face as it was averted from Papina. "No. He's... right there..."
"My-uh... my mommy left me when I was little. But Daddy cares for me now. I still miss my mommy though... D-do you t-think she didn't l-love me? Is that why she left me?" Nate was close to breaking down at this point. As much as Talner had reassured the boy that yes, his mother had loved him, but that for some reason she'd had to leave him, somewhere deep down, Nate didn't seem to really believe that. Maybe he preferred that to the thought that she had loved him and still abandoned him anyways. Not even Nate was really sure.

Papina blinked, not quite sure she heard right. "He?" She winced as Nate explained. Oh dear... If he wasn't so hot to the touch, she would hug him now. As it was, they both had to deal with her keeping her distance. "Uh... Um..." She tried to be gentle with her words, and verbally-speaking, stepped carefully. Very carefully. "Since I wasn't there, I can't say for sure if she loved you or not, although I would think she would, and as for leaving..." She paused for a moment. "... I suppose it might depend on what your mommy did... Was she involved in anything that might have kept her from you?"
