Alena is the sort who blends in to the crowd and prefers it that way. Not one to draw attention to herself, she can usually be found in an out of the way corner reading some book she had pulled out. When approached by one who is not a close acquaintance, she will usually stutter out her half of the (usually brief) conversation, blushing furiously the whole time. Since she doesn't have much of a social life, she spends most of her time reading and studying, and has learned a variety of things (most which would seem useless unless you happened to find yourself on a trivia show).
Her parents are at work for most of the day, leaving when she goes to school and returning home a few hours before she goes to sleep. Her brother is one of those loud, outspoken people who seem to be the life of the party and the center of attention, and this seems to be one of the major factors behind her introvertedness. Due to his loud nature, he tends to draw whatever attention is around to himself, and away from his sister, even if she had originally been then one people were focusing on. This trend grew partially from her own shyness, for she never tried in earnest to get people's attention back to her, and the cycle continued. He was never necessarily
mean to her, just behaved as any other sibling would, teasing her when he could, offering small bits of encouragement here and there, but he was older and was in a completely different social circle than her, and didn't spend much time with her after he became of the age when being with siblings was Not Cool.
Most of her relatives live within the same area of each other.....which happens to be a rather far distance from where Alena lives. She mainly sees them during holidays, and isn't very close to many of them.
She has few friends, but most of them are close ones, which gives her relief from the (from her point of view) seemingly endless time alone.
The lack of attention at home and at school gives her much time to herself, and while that did lead to her interest in reading and learning, it also lead the way to thinking. And having so much time alone to think about how she felt that life was unfair, and that over the years built it's way up to a slow anger that festered in the back of her mind. It was something that she never really acknowledged, but it was still there. Deep down, she has the thought that is probably present in every person at some point
'They will pay for this', though who 'they' are still remains ambiguous, the thought does seem to be stuck in there rather firmly.
However, despite her shy exterior, the thoughts that race through her mind are anything but. A deep-set longing to be accepted wars with her nature of remaining hidden. On the rare moments where the two conflicting urges become too much for her to handle, or when she is under a great deal of stress, she becomes irritable, snappish, and even more reclusive than she was previously until she can get her mind back in order.
These, while frequent in most people, seem to unnerve Alena, as they seem to make her realize how deeply she feels, and how deep her anger runs. After these outbursts, she manages to stammer out an apology and (sometimes literally) runs off back to solitude. Lately she has been reading books about relaxation and stress relief to see if they would help her any.
Aside from that, she is a generally calm person, though she can be a bit hard to find at times, and even harder to keep in place. She almost always has an excuse to wriggle her way out of social situations at hand, and very rarely is seen in a group of people on her own will.
