Tufah was pleased at her newfound skill when walking. She - and so her siblings too - were just out of the fluffy useless stage of infancy. No longer did she have to spend all her time asleep or drinking milk or the other things that made up the dull life of the very young. In the last week, she'd been stopped crawling and been up, testing her paws. The waddle had soon become a proper series of runs and stalks and playful pounces.
And while she wasn't exactly allowed a range of many miles - no sane lionness would let a bunch of practical newborns out of sight of themself or a nanny after all - it was freedom. At the moment the young red female was balancing on a fallen log, walking back and forth and perfecting this new balancing skill. Tiny claws dug into the bark and when not busy looking at her feet, she could see her siblings, mother and the beloved Pridelands in the background.

Matisho scoffed as he watched his little sister walk around. It was maybe a week ago since the litter had finally been able to get up and walk around freely, though still in proper sight and protection. The male had been able to walk as well, maybe as well as his sister, but he would rather perfer to lay still and watch her. To him, his sisters were the important ones for many reasons. He knew that they had to be watched over or something may happen to them down the line. He scoffed and hoisted himself to his feet, stretching out slightly.
"Tufah, don't you fall because I can't catch you," he spoke as he picked his head up, watching her with emerald eyes. Though none knew it, other than their mother, but he looked much like his father and he sort of acted the same as well. "Practicing again, sister, or are you trying to be one of those tree-climbing weirdoes?"
Mat was just an arrogant one to everyone that did not come from the same line of blood as him and his family. To him, they were nothing but faces in a crowd. Sisters above brothers and family above everyone else.

"How sweet of you to be concerned, dear brother."
Tufah stopped and looked down at him, smiling prettily and with a teasing condescending hint to her voice. She knew already that Matisho, for all his scoffing, she knew he cared and despite her ways she cared too. Showing off, she bunched up her body, judged the distance swiftly and leapt down. It was an unpractised move and the slight shock of landing on her forepaws alone made her shake both paws with irritated flicks. She could have sprained something - she should be more careful and practise that as well.
She was very like her brother in many ways. She adored Tiah and while he looked like their unknown father, Tufah resembled their mother. She too, was for brains over brawns - but she knew the value already of both. The playfights she and her siblings got into as young cubs had already taught her that much.
"And yes, I'm practicing and as you can see it's not real climbing like the strange ones. More about balance, and grace. I want to be as good as mother one day."

Mat rolled his eyes as she jumped off of her log. It was when she shook her paws of their slight reliant pain did he smirk. She was not as good as most cubs, but then again, they were just born not too long ago and are still learning the ropes. He sighed and raised to his feet again.
"Don't talk down to me, little sister. I am just watching out for you since you can't do it yourself," he scoffed again. "Your head is always looking down at your feet, more focused of where they are going than what is coming."
He nudged in the direction of the family. Mat did care about his family, a lot in fact, but he had his own ways of showing it. He was the brawn over brain sort of guy, then again most males were that. He would act first before thinking it out and that usually gets him stuck on bottom of a bout. He had to learn that thinking was a good thing, but thinking tends to take too much of his time. An impatient soul he was.
"Don't bother with the grace part, Tufah. We are lions, we aren't suppose to be graceful, we are suppose to be strong and proud. We have to be able to strike fear in others... well, at least that was what I heard," he said as he took a step toward the den and family. "What do you think I should be doing, huh? If you are practicing grace and balance, what should I be doing?"

"Practicing your fighting skills, with claws, jaws and words. I need balance and grace for hunting, clinging to a things backs while I or another huntress make a kill. Grace is another kind of strength, power." She ignored him slights at her skills. She would learn and he wasn't a wonder cub himself, anyway. The entire litter was still new and getting used to their new found freedoms, after all, and any older nearby litters didn't matter in the slightest. They weren't family.
"You however, are male. And while the Pridelands is like a giant den, your place is fighting and speaking up for us" Words like diplomacy were beyond the young cub but she already had taken in the stories of their blood lines. She'd listened enraptured to the stories they'd been told even before their eyes had been opened, when the rumble of voices had been meaningless comfort. Now, such stories meant something. The first 'big' words she'd ever understood had been royalty and hunting, she imagined.

"Fighting... yeah, don't think mom would let me or our brothers do that. And besides, we can we fight and not hurt or get hurt by? Think about it, if we got hurt or something, mom will never let us fight again and then what will we do? Balance on logs for grace like you?"
He scoffd again. He sometimes wondered what most males did most of their time. If the females hunted, what did the male do? Didn't they protect the territory that belonged to them? What if they were rogues? Did they have females to hunt for them? Did the males hunt for themselves..... thinking was starting to hurt again. He rubbed his head for a moment and looked back at her.
"So what are we suppose to do now? Staying here is sort of boring and there is no one to... play with."

"Mat, I love you but you're an idiot sometimes." Tufah rolled her ruby eyes skyward and wondered is their grandfather Taka would approve of such a lack of forward thought. "Atleast I'm trying. You're just making pathetic excuses."
"And what am I and the others? Dead-meat? We could play and we could fight. I can remember butting you to the side for mothers milk and I'd do it again if you tried to take my place even now."

"At least I will admit that I am an idiot, Tufah," he replied smugly. He shook his head and glared at her from the corner of his eye. "And I'm not making excuses. They are simple reasons why things are unable to be done. I don't make excuses and don't correct me either."
He looked up at the sky for a moment and then back to his sister. "Well, I for one do not want to hurt my sister. Mom would have my hide if I did and I'd rather keep it. Not only that, I was just a cub, I couldn't do anything but cry and wiggle around. So don't think yourself better of me. Er... that doesn't mean I'm better than you for the record."

"Fine, we are equals. But look at this." Tufah stopped and sighed, holding up her paw. She let her claws out, splaying her paw as if to rake it across something. Then she 'velveted' it, by keeping her claws in. She lightly batted her brother with it on the shoulder.
"JUst pretend your claws are out and I may be your sister but as you said, we're equals. I'm a lionness, just as strong and powerful in my own way as you, a lion are. I can take the hits. Besides, I'm sure mother would be overjoyed to see us playfighting. We don't often enough, compared to the riff-raff litters, and they might become better at fighting if not in blood."

"You know what, that sounds like a good idea. How about a bit later after we eat something? Just one on one, you and me. I bet I can hold you down for at least a minute." he scoffed cockingly, smirking a bit. He nudged her more, "Now come on, lets get back to the den before everyone starts to worry about where you ran off to."

"I can see them from here, no one was wondering, except you." She nudged him back - she could walk on her own, now, thanks. Tufah was happy about how this morning had gone so far and smirked right back at her brother. She didn't care what he thought, she was doing just fine.
"And I'm sure I can pin you too."
