Age: 63
Occupation prior to becoming a Sylph guardian: Nanny.
Hair: White mostly, with streaks of gray. It's thick and falls to around her shoulders when it's loose, but she never wears it that way. It's always up in a bun.
Eyes: Brown.
Skin: Pale. Thin and papery, with age spots on her hands. Her legs are in surprisingly good shape (no varicose veins or unsightly corns or callouses on her feet). It must be from chasing kids around all day and wearing comfortable shoes.
Etcetera: Bernadine is a short woman, and she's also a bit chubby. She's tough and doesn't tire easily under normal circumstances, but she will get winded climbing copious flights of stairs or running away from a mugger. She prefers to use her voice to command attention and respect, rather than threatening people with violence.
Personality and other quirks: Mrs. Gorey is stern but loving, a sort of Mary Poppins mated with Mrs. Potts. She loves her work and considers it a great point of pride that all of the children she has helped to raise have gone on to be successful adults. She has been a nanny for a bit more than 40 years, and it is really all she knows how to do. That being said, there is a lot you learn when it is your job to care for children. Bernadine is an excellent cook, she tells wonderful stories and has a talent for chasing away the tears that come with a bad dream.
Bernadine's most apparent flaw is that she seems to have no respect for anyone over the age of thirty that she didn't know in their youth. Whether this is an indulgence of old age or simple rudeness is not clear, but it takes quite an impressive series of shocks for an adult to receive anything more than disdain from Bernadine. She also dislikes bees, the opera and marshmallows.
