I say don't raise taxes, and cut out the crap we don't need.
Like the 14billion Colton wasted when the EPA forced them to build around the habitat of the Delhi Sands Fly, which coincendentally changes from year to year.
Now we have empty space, millions in lost tax dollars, and now the EPA wants us to bulldoze another area to save the damn fly. (Big ugly thing.)
They even forced a hospital to give up the land they had JUST bought to build on, and forced them to move down the street.
There are only 13 trauma centers in the ENTIRE state of California, and one of them lost a ton of money to save an INSECT.
But that's just a local case. The government wastes a ton of money every year. It matters to me because I live here, and I've worked at that hospital.
Check out these links about the issue, though.

Sing me somthing clear and true. . . ]I agree that some taxes are wasted, but I know that because not enough money went to education in Ohio, food in the schools doesn't have to meet the standards of restaurants, only prison food. If more money went to education and people paid it, and less money went to saving a bug, children would have much better education and such.
Lets just agree on one thing; alot of taxes aren't used correctly, and we need some government that doesn't throw away hard-earned money. I'm glad they saved the habitat of the fly, but why build around it? why not find a new space? Sky

i feel there should be no sales tax since that hits the poor the hardest.
other taxes whould not be for purposes of social engineering, but to provide essentials like roads, coinage, courts and so on.
those should be paid on a sliding scale of ability to pay.
if i make $15k, a 20% tax leaves me with $12k, below the poverty line. at that income level, 20% means a lot.
if i make $500k, a 20% tax leaves me with $400k, more than enough for a comfortable living for anyone.
but i would lower taxes by eliminating many programs, such as the FCC, FDA and so on. replace them with laws giving people the right to sue for double damages if somebody broadcasts improperly or markets a bad drug. hungry lawyers would make the laws self enforcing and we would not need th bureaucracy.
then taxes would be lower for everybody.
