Stepping in out of a brisk and chill wind, the little gold bell overhead chimed sounding the arrival of a patron of the Ebony Feather. The cafe wasn't small, but neither was it large. It was big enough to accommodate the steady stream of customers on the guild premises, while still maintaining a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The fireplace in the center of the building was banked, and giving off a healthy heat. Music drifted in the background, a melancholy violin echoed by the delicate cry of a flute and harp. Bells chimed in harmony-- the music was almost a sigh, a whisper of some sadness, sung sweetly in the ear.

A waitress looked up from the nearest table, ready with the usual welcome, but her eyes widened even as her face broke into a smile as she realized who had just entered the cafe.

Jillian was only 17, she had lived at the Dark Sakura for two years now, working to make a living for her and her younger sister Esme. Esme was only 8; there was another sister, but 12yr old Rachelle had been lost in the attack along with both their parents and most of their village. Here, they had been both welcome and wanted. They found a sanctuary from the otherwise cruel world-- and she grinned, her heart racing a little as she smiled wide brown eyes at her idol; Sierra.

Sierra slipped the deep hood off of her head as she caught the eye of one of the young women who worked here in her empty. She remembered the day that she had found Jillian and Esme, Jillian had been badly beaten, shielding her little sister from the raking talons of a lesser demon. Her healers had been able to spare the girl any physical scarring; and to their surprise, her spirit was indomitable. Despite her loss, she focused on the needs of Esme and the dark reaches of depression that they had feared-- never lay hold on the girl.

When her golden eyes met those adoring pools of chocolate, the answering smile was quite genuine. She waved and unfastened her cloak, calling out in greeting.

"Heyla' Jillian! How be you today dearheart?"

Warmed right down to her toes, Jillian pushed a stray strand of auburn hair, back into the loose coil at the nape of her neck.

"Good'ay my Lady! I fare well mistress. What can I get for you?"

"A booth please, one near the fireplace and a platter of assorted cookies and some milk to start please. My wee Juuni will be joining me shortly."

Jillian noted the way that the elven lady spoke with such tenderness wherever Juunikyuu was concerned. That the small cat girl was very precious to her, was no secret. Quite often Sierra could be seen playing with the purple haired child, swishing in and about her skirts, or carried lovingly in her arms.

Sierra had no children, but the way she looked out for the nekojin, was very similar to how she herself cared for Esme. Almost motherly.

"Of course! I haven't seen Mistress Juuni for some time, how is she?"

"Quite well I think, undecided about the press of winter. She hates the cold-- but I believe she loves the season. It give her an excuse to drink warm sweet things and to cuddle everyone who'll let her."

Juuni was very unimpressed. Not a happy bunny at all. It was cold. Very very cold. In fact, it was far too cold to even be allowed! At least that's what the tiny neko-jin had decided. Still, she skipped through the Dark Sakura grounds towards the cafe where she had arranged to meet with her Sierra-mama. As she skipped the silver bell attached by the purple ribbon around her neck chimed merrily. Her thick purple cloak and soft fur lined hood was drawn close about her person and most of her face was hidden by the large scarf she was swoddled in although it dragged a little on the ground behind her. Soft boots and a pair of warm trousers were all that could really be seen of her clothes.

With a heave the child pushed open the door to the cafe, smiling as the bell chimed and scampered inside, immediately grateful for the wahs of warmth that came over her. Pushing her hood back down her cheeks were flushed and her nose slightly pink from the cold. Pulling the scarf down from her face revealed an impish smile as her eyes drank in her surroundings. They fell upon her Sierra-mama and another girl the child didn't recognise.

"Sierra-mama~!"

And she ran towards her, scarf trailing along behind. She looked quite a sight and about 3 times her normal size due to the layering she wore.

Just as Jillian led Sierra to her booth, the bell chimed again, and both women turned to the shuffling sound of scampering feet. A big bounding ball of wool and fur bounced towards them eagerly. Sieera knelt down and held her arms wide to scoops up the wee nekojin, pulling her into a warm hug against her chest and nuzzling the small child's cheek. Sierra's very body giving off a substantial amount of heat. the fire elemental rarely got cold as her body temperature was much higher tahn that of your average humanoid. Yet she regulated it as not to burn the child with her touch.

"Well met ke'chara."

She said as she pressed soft kisses all over the top of Juunikyuu's head and cheeks.

"I ordered you milk and cookies, I hope you don't mind?" It was a mock question, Sierra knew without a doubt that the small cat girl would never EVER turn down cookies.

Immediately Juuni's ears perked up.

"Cookies?!"

And then the child started bouncing happily in her adoptive mothers arms, "Juunish does love cookies! I did try one the other day and it was a gingerbread cookie and normally Juunish does not like giner but she tried it cause her mamas and papas always tells her that she should trys new things and soes I dids and it was nummy~~" 4laugh

This was followed by a very deep breath and an even larger grin before her eyes fell on the waitress.

"Oops, sorry! I ish Juunish, pleased to meet'chu!"

And a small hand was extended. After all, Juuni had been bought up as a Leviathan, she certainly wasn't a stranger to manners.

Sierra giggled and snuggled the small girl tighter as not to drop her as she sat down in the booth and released the bouncing bundle on the padded bench.

"Ouuu gingerbread! They'll be making lots of those here shortly, for Christmas."

She grinned, knowing that 'Christmas' was another buzz word that would infuse the nekojin with youthful energy,

"Perhaps if we ask at the kitchen they'll let you ice your own cookie later."

A delicate, pale hand rested atop her head and tousled her hair lovingly before setting about helping peel her free of all the winter layers.

Jillian smiled at Juuni, touched by her innocence and the pure happiness that shone in her face. She felt her heart melt into a squishy puddle with each passing second, the child was simply the sweetest thing she'd ever seen.

Extending her own hand she clasped the nekojin's warmly and grinned.

"My name is Jillian, pleased to meet you miss Juunish. Shall I fetch you your cookies? I can ask them to add some gingerbread ones if you like?"

It took all of Juuni's self control to not become a bouncing ball ofmerriment once more as she shook Jillians hand in a very mature manner although her tail bristled and swished about behind her. She wriggled free of the layers her Mama helped her out of.

"Oooo yush please~! I like gingerbread now... But I likes the other cookies too so I better eat the same amount of both or they might get upset..." ninja

Ah... The logic of childhood. The neko-jin smiled at Jillian once more before turning back to Sierra exictedly.

"I ish already written my letter to Santa!"

Jillian smiled and excited with a a nod, disappearing behind the counter and through swishing double doors into the kitchen. As the doors swung open and closed, sweet smells of fresh baking wafted out to greet eager noses.

Sierra smiled lovingly at Juuni as she proclaimed her latest achievement. Christmas was always a special time at the Dark Sakura, especially for the resident Children, and no child was more beloved than Sierra's Juunikyuu.

"Did you now? What did you ask old Saint Nocholas for this year my litttle love?"

She shifted the child onto her knee, wrapping her warmly in her arms, and chasing any traces of the cold out with warm kisses.

Juuni inhaled deeply as the mingled sweet and savoury smells from the kitchen washed over her. Smiling up at her Mama Juuni shifted a little to settle herself in the adults lap as she played with the hem of her top suddenly... evasive.

"I can'ts say Mama..." she whispered, "Ish meant to be a secret, like wishes?"

Juuni wsn't actually sure if this was true or not, but she wanted to be sure and although she wanted to tell her Mama, the toddler inside of her wanted to be sure she had some chance of getting the presents. She had, after all, been a very good girl lately.

The elf couldn't help but smile at the small cat girl's determination and dedication to her Christmas wishes. Her hand came to rest atop her head and ruffled her hair lightly, the other arm holding her close and giving her a gentle squeeze.

"Of course, how silly of me. It must be a very special wish indeed."

"Uh-huh~! It is!"

The neko-jin nodded her head as she spoke, setting her small silver bell a jingling all over again as she shuffled about in Sierra's lap, getting comfortable before placing both her hands palm down on the table and looking around trying to look as grown up as possible. However, her twitching tail gave away her slight childish impatience and she turned to her Sierra-Mama.

"... Ish cookie time nao?"
