Richard stood in front of the carnivore side of the buffet, frozen with indecision her eyes fixated on something, that had kicked her salivary glands into over drive. Previously, perhaps because Richard tended to come to the cafe after "normal" meal times the raw section of the carnivore bar was presented cold or maybe room temperature. In that unappetizing state they were easy enough for Richard to ignore, allowing Richard to pretend that the rare steaks were superior to raw meat. It was a small piece of her humanity that Richard clung to, she didn't eat raw meat.

Humanity however had an expiration date on the Island and it appeared Richard was going to lose another piece of hers tonight. Some inventive kitchen staff member had put so of the rare meat on a hot plate, warming the meat to just above 100 degrees, not enough to cook it but it filled the cafeiteria with a smell that to Richard might as well have been heaven. She stared at it, her tail lashing behind her as her will to resist faded away. It was only a piece of meat after all. What harm would it do?

While she was losing this internal battle, the outside world had faded from her awareness.

Barbara came into the cafeteria for the first time in awhile, relying heavily on the aid of her cane as she hobbled through the doors. The past months after her first transformation had left her less than well, infact she was just now feeling good enough to get out and about. The added weight of her face and tail didn't help her already poor bone-structure. Oh but that was another story.

Over the months she had come to realize that perhaps it wasn't all Miller's fault that these sorts of things were happening, for one he couldn't have cursed every person there... But still, she was going to show him what for. No matter what really cause this, she blamed him for wishing the pain on her. Yes yes, as soon as she found that boy again she was going to give him a peice of her mind.

The old woman, grumbling under her breath, migrated to the cafeteria stand. While the smell of the meat wafting through the room was oddly appealing, there was one huge problem: Her dentures didn't fit anymore. So it was with a disgruntled huff that she gathered up all of the soft foods she could. Pudding, mashed potatoes... a few peas. Some soup. A bit of everything she didn't really want to eat right now, considering she'd been living on this stuff for God knows how long.
Once that was done she hopped back to a chair, setting her tray down at the table and sat down with a bit of effort, and a few "Hoo"s as she fought against Gravity's wish to slam her into the seat, not paying much attention to the oddly furry woman at the meat stand she just wanted to eat, and leave.

It just smelled to good, Richard snatched both of the raw steaks with her claws and on to her plate with a wet smack. Licking the blood from her fingertips, feeling a little guilty, she surveyed the cafe. She spied a rather old looking woman sitting alone. She didn't recognize the lady, and normally she would pay her no mind but it had been awhile since Richard had held a conversation that wasn't about whispered meetings and rebellion. She hungered for a normal conversation, especially after giving in and taking the raw meat. The old woman looked pleasant enough, changed just enough to know what's going on.

Richard was wearing a pair of black capris with a white T shirt, both looked a bit worm from spending days wandering the jungle. She carried her tray with the smaller pair of arms while one hand paw carried a large glass of ice water. A tight lipped smile was flashed at the old woman as Richard approached. "Good evening," she spoke as she threaded her tail through the back of the seat with practiced ease and sat across from Barbra.

Barbra dug in with her spoon, forcing the potatoes down first. A spoonful would go into the mouth, she'd move her jaw if only for old times sake, maybe smush them with her tongue, then swallow. It was ever so exciting.

Well things got more exciting, atleast as exciting as it could be for old people, when another elderly looking woman sat down. Barbra wasn't too sure on the age, while the face looked older.. and feline, the hair was still black, but what really mattered was why exactly was this person sitting with her?

Barbra was momentarily torn, part of her really didn't want to deal with another human soul at this time, but the other side did beg for atleast a few moments of human interaction. Maybe she could even find out where that miller person was so she could give him that peice of her mind. Plus, Barbra still did like telling someone how to live there life, wether she was concious of that fact or not. So, trying to hide the smidge of reluctance, Barbra offered a small nod and the best smile she could muster. "'Evening."

Richard picked up one of the steaks with her handpaw, the blood squeezing out among her sausage sized fingers and tore off a hunk with her teeth. Her eyes widened as the she chewed once, twice, then swallowed. She blinked, entirely taken back by the sheer explosion of meaty goodness that her tastebuds were reporting.
She shook her head to clear it and trying to find a coversation topic that wouldn't be to stressfull for the woman.

She observed the teeth trouble Barbra was having and blurted, "On the upside, you'll probably get a new set of teeth." She paused and extended one of her smaller hands, "I'm Richard."

Barbra raised a brow at the... interesting mannor in which the meat was eaten, quickly adverting her eyes to keep the food she'd just swallowed down. That was not a pretty sight. For the moment, Barbra held her tongue, but it wouldn't be long before a few sights of that set her off.

She raised a brow at the 'upside' given. "I guess." she shrugged, it was true, but certaintly wasn't aiding the usefulness of this process at all. She still needed to ask what exactly they had done, but she couldn't seem to get ahold of Sabin... "I'm Barbra." she responded, swirling the spoon in the potatoes in an attempt to convince her appitite to return. Hm. Wasn't Richard a guys name?

Barbra seemed understandably depressed. That was fine with Richard, it was the way of the island. You get depressed or you get angry, usually some combination of both. Richard tore another piece of steak off, the taste setting off vibration sdeep within her chest. She gulped down an additional chunk before speaking in a conversational tone. "What they tell you this place was? A hospital or a vacation spot?" Richard examined Barbra with her in human eyes, the woman looked even older the Richard was. Were they testing the limits of the serum?

Depressed... Barbra wasn't depressed, no, she was probably more on the angry side. Though it was hard to tell from her ever so talkitive nature... That was only because she was doing her best to be "nice" for once. She often tried this... she often failed. Heck, she was being nice to Miller when he'd gone off the deep end, or so she thought.

However that nice wore thin really quick. She cringed this time at the bite Richard took, jaw tightening. "They told me it was a vacation spot." She responded sharply, "And look, if you're going to eat that.. that.. whatever that is, atleast use a knife and a fork for God's sake!" she dropped her spoon, finding that twirling it had done no good and only irritated further by that matter "I've gone and lost my appitite after coming all the way out here. These old bones don't get along very well I'll have you know, and you just come over sit down and start eating raw meat with your hands like an animal? You don't even ask if I'd mind you sitting there, nooo. No one has respect these days I swear." She ended abruptly in an angry huff, reaching for her cane. In her mind, she'd simply given a bit of helpful advice, and was now ready to leave because she had nothing left to do in the cafeteria. From Richard's point of view it was probably quite the oposite.

Richard's ears drooped in an attempt to flatten against her head. Her lips peeled back to reveal her enlarged teeth as she tightened her grip on the slab of meat. Richard felt indignant at her objection, "You try cutting meat with the butter knives they give us. " Richard finished off her steak with a few angry chomps as her tentacles, previously hidden behind her back, rose to their striking positions, hovering over each shoulder. "There its gone. Happy?"

"Respect?" Richard snorted, feeling confrontational. "You just looked like you could use some company. Respect has nothing to do with it, Barbra." Richard did not liked being talked to with Barbra's tone but she reminded herself to be civil. She was after all trying to act human today. And Barbra seemed a bit out of sorts, had she just changed?

"It's not the fork and knife, it's the sense of decent table mannors, I don't care what you do just stop eating like a filthy pig. Get a napkin or something. And if you're going to eat like that why not eat by yourself and save others the trouble of having to watch?" Barbra shook her head, emphasizing her ever so obvious dislike of the matter, grabbing her cane and shoving to a wobbly stand. She did pause to eye the tray, ignoring Richard as she finished the rest of the meat, and grabbing the pudding cup at least. She knew she'd be hungry later, too bad she couldn't be hungry now thanks to a certain someone, she thought bitterly.

Out of sorts? No, Barbra was perfectly in sorts... Atleast as much as the cranky cat-lady could be."Well I didn't need any company." She shot back, turning to face Richard, leaning on her cane with one hand, the pudding cup in the other. "You shouldn't assume things about people. And now I bid you good day, go wash yourself up, you're a damn mess." Barbra gave one last huff, starting to limp to the door, quite ready for this meeting to be over. See, this is why she didn't leave the house...

Richard gave up suppressing the snarl that rose from her throat like bitter bile. Just who did this woman think she was? "Don't you dare judge me, you close minded hag! In a few months you'll probably be exactly where I am. We'll see what your table manners are like once that muzzle of yours grows in." Richard wished she could identify exactly what Barbra was turning into, could be any sort of reptile at this point. It looked vaguely predatory but who could tell? So Richard was forced to keep her comments vague.

"Thats right." She growled, "Go hide, as if it will make any difference at all." With a final, feline huff and upturning of her nose, Richard began to lick her paws clean. She could use a napkin like a civilized person but doing so would a surrender to his old hag's demands.

The snarl was less unnerving than she thought it would be, actually it reminded her of the Wild cats at the zoo... Perhaps that explained the whole feline-ish look? Though who knew what those creepy things on her back were, and Barbra certaintly wasn't going to ask.

"If I can't keep my dignity while eating I atleast won't ruin other people's meals with my unsightly presence." She called back over her shoulder... and oh oh, hiding, that was rich. "I don't hide from anything." Was all she had to say to that, before she was dragging the door open and leaving. Seemed she had the worst luck with people at the cafeteria, always some psychopath in there, she thought, oblivious to the fact it might have been her and not them.
