http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/2007/06/mysterious-case-of-men-strickened-by.html

Some of you may have heard of this blog already, but this article in particular really struck me hard. If I were those guys' boss, I would have fired them on the spot while trying to revive the woman. If I were that woman's husband, I would have castrated all five doctors.

So, if you were in a situation where a loved one were discriminated against just like this, what would you do? Have you also been denied health care as well, and just what did you do? Or what would you do about it?

Oh, yes. It's not from a US paper, though.

i stayed a week in the hospital with my ex..
he was supposed to have outpatient gallbladder surgery.. they ******** him up good...

for 3 days i slept on the floor because they wouldn't give me a chair to sleep in.. when they finally did give me one, micheal would endu up waking me up in the middle of the night and making me move into his bed so he could sit in the chair so he could get comfortable...
one such night i was sitting up in his bed asleep after he had run me out of the chair and he was awake.. he overheard the night CNA *who was a useless b*****d before this incident too* make a comment about my fat a**..
the next day he made a complaint..
well that unleashed all hell..
the head nurse *an evil heifer* stopped my meals coming.. i didn't eat for 2 days.. they complained i was doubling the water bill by showering there..
i was doing their work for them!
i took him to the bathroom, i cleaned his puke tray.. i helped him walk around the halls every hour.. i made sure he cleared his lungs and used the little lung capacity meter when he should.. i hounded the nurses when his IV alarm went off for 45 minutes and no one came to change it or at least shut the alarm off..
they did everything in their power to run me out.. he had told them when he checked into the hospital he wouldn't stay if i wasn't there..
i held out for 7 days.. they forced me to leave then.. he went home AMA on the eighth..
he was back in the hospital a month later.. i didn't even bother to go that time.. they sent him a forced and pissy little letter of apology.. that was the end of that..
ironically my mom went up there to stay with her girlfriend and they never once said a thing to them.. evil

I would've probably yelled at them, if that didn't work insisted I would be taking them to court because it's their lawful duty to attempt to help if trained for it within their capability... and it would be a murder case if they allowed her to die, and if that didn't work I would call 911 reporting immediately reporting them and claiming it was murder as she was dying while they watched her.

Also, 244 lbs between five men, this has to be a fake story... I'm right at that weight, if somebody says they can't lift me they don't deserve to be a paramedic.

I'm sorry. No one should go through with that. I wouldn't even wish that on my own worst enemy.

And 45 minutes?! How could they be so irresponsible?

I don't think it is fake, is it? If it is, then I'm really sorry. But, I'd like to look at this as a hypothetical situation.

But anyway, if you or your loved one was screwed over by a doctor who went to school and underwent training to help EVERYONE, then your or your loved one's next of kin would have wanted to sue their asses off, against all odds.

I think this whole topic is ridiculous.
I think that people forget a lot that people are people. We all are made of the same stuff, we all do the same things, breathe the same air, and have almost exactly the same genetic make up. We all have loved ones, and all need to be cared for. I think discrimination based on weight is outrageous!!!

And five guys for a 244 pound woman?!!?!? COME NOW. 5 girls could lift her. I picked up a 150 pound friend of mine once with one other person and got him up 3 flights of stairs because he was incredibly drunk and needed to puke and lay down.

And also, I think that's incredibly unprofessional. And Jade-- those nurses were bitches. That's also unprofessional. I can't even believe that people would do something like that. GAH.

The reason I have trouble believing this story is because I am about 240lbs, and I have tiny little friends and big friends who all together could lift me... if they say they can't lift a 244 lb woman they have issues.

Oh my gosh I havent heard that story. How completely ridiculous is that to say that they cannot lift her. 244lbs isnt even that big to be saying that and joking about taking her out the window... I would be suing all of them.

Last year my grama went to the hospital in a town where there are a lot of elderly people and they tend to die, she was there about a week. Anyways my grama was in the hospital for not being able to breathe she has a hard time walking, so they gave her a catheter. Well everytime we went to visit her she needed her catheter bag to be emptied, me and my mom either had to complain or wait for my aunt to get there to empty it and then complain. So when she left she was having a hard time standing up and even walking the little bit that she could. It ended up that she had gotten two blood clots in both her legs that were very close to her heart. When my mom went to the hospital to find out why this happened my mom demanded they check her charts from her first stay, it turns out that they never did any therapy or anything for her while she stayed in bed (which was the whole time... she never got up or moved once during her stay, she stayed in the same position the whole time)... when my mom asked the charge nurse how this happened.. she said that they figured she was dying why did she need to take away from other patients who needed the nurses. Needless to say she got fired.

I'm not suprised. With the hate mongering that goes on against people of size, I'm really not. The fact that it had to do with hospital staff suprises me even less. I think today there was a story that a woman was dying in a hospital because she failed to recieve treatment when she should have in an emergency room. She was basically ignored.

I attribute part of the problem to people who are only interested in a paycheck getting into an industry that is people oriented. I've heard some pretty nasty stories about some social service agency employees who basically drop clients from cases because it was an inconvenience to them, or refuse to talk to people due to the fact that they don't want to deal with them.

Sort of defeats the purpose of helping people, which they're paid to do, if you don't help 'em. Their heart just isn't in it, and beyond that the exhibit no empathy and no understanding. Too self centered.

It makes me so sad for the people who end up getting hurt because of that. That if someone cared just a little more maybe someone would end up with a few more years of life, or even just a better life.

It makes you wonder why some people even go into the medical field. You’d think that when you’re dealing with people’s lives you’d be able to put that kind of petty stuff on the back burner and do your job. It’s a little depressing (and scary!) to think that there are some people out there entrusted with the welfare of others who are so jaded to it that they don’t see you as a person, just a hassle for them.

That makes me furious!! Not only is that discrimination, that's against their job. They have a job, and they are asked to do it. You don't do it without a question or because of blah, blah, blah, that's your job. That is so rude. That's like how much I weigh.

That sentence right there, really steams my broccoli (I tried not to swear this time, really). However, it's really sad that things like this are common! Well, okay, maybe not common; the media tends to exaggerate (to say the least), but you keep on hearing about abuse in nursing homes, abuse of the elderly, etc... It just makes you wonder where the hell the human conscience has gone.
