One would think that with how much he'd inherited from his mother his father would want less to do with him. One would also think somewhere along those same lines due to how much time Father spent with the brother that he now knew was named Tarnish, training him to be his pride if not joy. He wasn't certain as to whether his Father knew things such as joy... Only hatred; only anger.

This was his first time away from 'home'. At least, he had been told that was what to call where they lived but something about the area did not suit the word. It was not a 'home'. It was a training camp. It was a battling ground. It was a place to improve and, should they ever be caught slacking, it became a place to be punished.

He could still feel the sting from his last punishment. His ribs ached but he refused to let that effect the way he walked; the way he held himself. He was a proud foal and, for that pride, he felt as if he was knocked around harder than either Tarnish or Torment even if he knew it was not true. Father, such a terrible thing.

He would enjoy this time away from him, flexing his wings to make sure that they still moved just fine. He had lifted them out of the way when his sides had been strucked. He would not let anything happen to them. He had not yet been taught to fly but they were special to him. When he finally learned to use them he would get away... Far, far away...

Loveless was independent now, growing bigger and bigger day by day. Her body ached from a small meal she was able to catch herself, and it was the first ever. It was a hard chase, rabits were always such bastards. But, when she realized she had won, it was a moment that suited her well. She was able to be victorious in her own way, and it proved to her that sooner or later she would move away from her precious father, and spit at her mother in the dust.

She walked along and yawned, also feeling a slight burp come out. Ooh, such a wonderful meal, it was perfect. Her teeth were still stained a bit, but her dark body hid any other markings.

After moments of a full mind block, she sniffed the air for an unusual scent. It kinda smelled like Torment, but then.. it didn't at all? Well, that was weird! She would have liked to see Torment again, it was nice pretending to have a little sister to raise.

Curiosity was a pleasure of hers, so she trotted forward, only in search of where the mysterious scent led to. Her nose had become much better, and she remembered the days when she needed to rely on her father for everything. That was changing now, and she just loved it.

The scent that he carried was something that he had never paid much attention to, other than a muttered thanks from time to time that it was nothing like the foul smell of his father. It was sweet, like the golden flowers in the forest that he had been scolded for sniffing. Flowers, Father had said, were for those females that were nothing like his sister... The flighty, giggling, disgusting sort. As far as he was concerned, Torment fit right in with that sort.

On days such as today he found himself please with the almost alluring aroma. It brought creatures to him like the bird that had ventured out of its home made of brush and tall grasses in search of a treat; berries, perhaps. The bird wandered up to his hoof and he peered down at it, cooing softly before stooping down to catch it in his mouth. It flailed and then, as he squeezed down, it stopped.

With a soft snort he dropped it back to the ground, disgusted by the thought of the feathers he had just had in his mouth. "Foul little creature..." His nose wrinkled as he leaned down, slowly plucking the feathers from the bird one at a time. He would not eat those... Never.

Loveless stopped behind a bush to observe a foal that looked like Torment. Ahh, so that was the smell. But wait.. it was different.. and it was a boy. That made things confusing, but Torment did say she had brothers. Heh, how interesitng but confusing!

Loveless was not one for hidding, so she walked around the bush and approached the male from the front. "Who's foul?" She grinned, and looked the boy in the eye. "Now now, its not nice to be name calling, is it?" With a cackle, she kept her grin and stared the boy down. Hmph, he had the same weird wings as Torment, and also a horn. Kinda like Spades, that one ridiculous horn.

She wasn't fond of males, so it was awkward for her to be friendly. Her stiff body proved this, and she tried hard not to frown or react rudely. She needed to let himself speak first, before she could judge him and react in her usual spite. "Are you related to Torment?" She said, blatently, because in the Ariston-family world, everything was more important from their point of questioning.

He heard the bush rustle as something moved around it before he heard the voice that belonged to... A girl. Wonderful. Worse than feathers; another female. He was convinced that there were far too many of them in the world and, if he ever got his way, there would be one less starting with Torment.

A low growl rumbled in his throat as he spread his wings in an attempt to make himself look larger than he was, stepping forward so that his prey was between his forelegs. This filly wasn't all that much larger than he was but, damnit, he was a boy and he should've been bigger. The thought that she was older than him didn't even come close to crossing his mind. By the look of her stance, she was no more comfortable with his presence than he was with hers. Good. That's the way it should be. No friends. Don't care. Don't be soft.

When he realized just how ugly he must look with the beginings of a snarl on his snout he straightened up, folding his wings carefully back against his sides so that he could hide the bruises (if they were even visible against his dark coat). He held his head high, meeting the filly's golden eyes with his own pale pink stare. She had mentioned Torment. Torment of all people.

"Related to her?" He snorted softly. "By birth, not by choice."

"Oooh a sour one, are we?" Loveless giggled happily, and she walked around the foal. What a strange vibe that came from him, and she stalked around him primatively. He seemed to adjust his position quickly, and she looked closly to try and catch his flaw. "Well whatever," the words hissed off her lips, "I didn't choose my brothers either, so I get that."

She regained her position in front of him, and she curled her tail to the side of her. Her natural face was hardly smiling, though her eyes were dark with pleasure. "Now, what are you doing away from your parents? Hm?" As pink as he was, she realized his blackish color almost matched her's in its dark gleam. He was strangely pretty, in a pink and black way.

Hmm so he wasn't a talkative type? Loveless hated putting effort into others until she deemed them wothy, so she just watched him carefully, keeping a close stare on his little eyes.

As far as he was concerned, he was without flaw no matter what those who had spawned him said; sire or dam. Look as this filly may, he doubted she would find anything to use against him. That was one of the few things he appreciated learning from his father. If there is something wrong with you, as you should all know there is, learn to hide it so that others don't see you as the weaklings you are.

"Of course you didn't choose your brothers. We are given no choice in the family we are born into." The word was stressed, laced with a venom that his 'sweet' appearance gave no trace of. He did not view the collection of mutant misfits he lived with as a 'family', even if he acknowledged Tarnish as his brother and Torment as his sister. They were no more at fault for their lives than he was... Their 'parents', on the other hand?

As she commented on his disposition he couldn't help but smirk, tail flickering against his hindlegs. "Sour, you think? Here my father tells me I am far too sweet." He snorted softly, eyes rolling in a most child-like manner as he looked up to her. "I could ask you the same thing, couldn't I? If you know my sister then I am sure you know we reside with our father. Our mother?" He stomped his hoof, letting that ugly snarl curve his mouth once more only to quickly fade. "I can think of better things to talk about... Like your name. What is it?"

Loveless giggled and circled the foal, and was almost preditorial in her movements. "Now now," she purred, "I can relate, I didn't choose my ridiculous family either." She felt compelled to be connected on the subject, for no matter how much her parents preached- be together, always- she would spit at the ground in response.

If this was the father Torment was talking about, then Loveless sort of understood what Taint was going through. "Yes, I have heard quite a lot about your father," she hissed, only because she thought for a second he was implying her as a fool, "My name is Loveless, and my mother is completely worthless. How nice to connect on a subject." She once again toned her voice down, and eyed him curiously. "And your name, boy? I reckon this gathering may be nicer then I thought at first." With a twisted grin, she stomped her hoof on the ground playfully. The boy seemed to have more opinions then Torment did, and much more rage held inside. Of course, she loved that, being the same way too.

He remained still as the filly circled him, head held high as he resisted the urge to follow her with his eyes. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction of knowing that her actions were making him paranoid. He was too used to his father stalking around him like this, waiting for the perfect moment to strike upon finding a weakness. He wouldn't show this girl any weakness.

"I wouldn't really use the word 'family' to describe what I have. Family makes it seem like there are feelings involved." He snorted once more, tossing his head a bit higher. If there were any 'feelings' at all amongst his 'family' they weren't good. Hatred, bitterness, loathing, disgust... All of those, perhaps, but not things he had been told were weaknesses in others; love, friendship, kinship, adoration. Foolishness.

"Of course you have. It's not like Torment to keep her mouth shut. She likes talking. Alot." He rolled his eyes, showing a glimpse of the young boy that he tried to keep hidden. His youth was a weakness; he wasn't yet big enough to stand up on his own completely. He wasn't old enough to escape.

"Taint." He turned his head to eye her as he spoke his name, a slight smirk curving his mouth as if he were darring her to say something about his name; about the way it had been meant to be an insult given to him by his father. "What else has Torment told you?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:12 am

Loveless snarled at what Taint said, only because knew more about the word feelings then he would EVER know. "Well, obviously there are feelings involved, but you must remember that hate, anger, and rage are also feelings in the term you speak of. Don't just assume feelings are worthless, that only makes you a fool Taint." He would never understand what a being without feelings was like, unless he would meet her mother. Her mother was the essence of an empty shell, something with no say on anything in life. It was a pathetic life, and Loveless despised it.

Shaking herself up a bit, she grinned at how he talked about Torment. It was just as she remembered her, and she smiled comfortably. "I tried to explain to her that being quiet is more intimidating, when I was explaining scary." She giggled lightly, "She will learn eventually, everyone figures out what works best for them."

At his next question, she kept her grin and eyed him once again. "She told me Tarnish was scary, but that's it." Torment blabbered about a lot of things, but from what Loveless remembered, that was really it.

His eyes rolled once more at her little outburst. "So all girls are like this? Upset so easily because they didn't understand what someone said? I didn't say that feelings were worthless, did I? Stop taking words from my mouth." He snorted, pale eyes narrowing as he looked at the filly. "Girls."

He was almost glad for the change of subject even if the subject wasn't something that he enjoyed. He shook his head slowly, trying not to stomp his hoof. "Talking can be just as intimidating as remaining silent. It all depends on what's said. I don't think 'scary' is something that can be explained. Everyone fears different things." He was frightened by his father... That wasn't saying that anyone else would be.

"Tarnish is... Tarnish." That was the only way that he could think of describing his brother. There were things about him that he could say beyond that, of course, but it was not his place to do so. He may have felt no love for his family but there was at least a small amount of loyalty towards his siblings. He would not betray anything that Tarnish was unless it could be used to his advantage. "He only scares her because he's different than she is."

"And are all boys pink and snobbish?" She grinned playfully, though held a sour expression. "I didn't give you a reason to be defensive, when I give you a reason, I will allow for your childish reflexes." Ah, pity, she truly hated the male species. She tried to give younger boys a chance but, what was the point? They would just grow up into stallions that she would also hate.

What Taint had said was everything she knew already, and she looked at him while barely listening. "That's whats nice, that people have a variety of fears. It is more fun exploring what a target fears most." Such a wonderful game of hers, her father had taught it to her when he went to females to absorb their lack of self confidence. They feared not being accepted for their lack of beauty, and it was easy for him to zoom in to those scenarios. What he would do next, she had no clue. Something about his Sin, or something.

"Its funny that something scares her like that, my brothers and mother say the same thing about me. Being different is oh so scary, I guess." She lurked around again, since moving around was usually a habit of hers. "And you? Are you scary dear Taint?" She purred the words out once again. She was practicing some female traits, just as Succubus had taught her.

"I'd hate to think that there were any other boys out there like me." He snorted softly, giving his small head a light toss. "Life is a reason to be defensive. Always be on your guard. Everything is a potential attack." That's what his father had told him and, although there were some things that the stallion said that he didn't agree with, that was one of the ones that he had.

"If you agree with me how could you have tried to explain 'scary' to Torment? It's something she'll have to find on her own, just like everyone else." He didn't mention that he doubted his sister ever would. There was nothing 'scary' about her. In order to even try to 'spook' him she had to use other things. Was that what girls did? Use things?

"To be different is to be unknown. People fear what they don't know. They can't see what they aren't looking for. It makes them weak." He held his head high once more, a wry grin curving his small mouth. "I don't know, Loveless... You tell me. Am I scary?"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 09, 2007 9:54 pm

At least he was interested in being independent, which was a plus on his part. And, he seemed well trained in the art of life. But, Loveless was more interested in watching him, his movements, etc. "Well, it sounds like you will be ready when you grow." She said, giggling almost. "At least you have many things figured out, which I pray is a big difference between you and your sister." Obviously, of course. "I haven't lost faith in her yet, I enjoy her company." She grinned, figuring he probably wouldn't like that.

"She wanted a simple explanation, so I tried to help her out. Some people like answers up front, and that is something I noticed Torment does. I would rather think things through and figure them out on my own but." She sighed, almost exhaustingly. "Torment will prolly shift that way eventually. Hopefully." She added. One couldn't rely on others for everything.

But, now things were shifting a bit, and she looked at Taint carefully. "Is it bad I don't find you scary?" She said, amused. "Though, my perception of scary is a bit messed up, I have met things out there that are way worse." She cringed a bit, but brought her eyes back on him. "Once you venture on your own, you are able to find and learn scary easier." She didn't regret doing it, she found more important factors to life and its lessions.

He snorted softly, giving his head a toss before laughing. His laughter was still young enough to match his appearance; not nearly as dark as his father's and he didn't think it ever would be. That was fine with him though. It was not his goal to become his father... No, he wanted to be come better than him; better than all of them.

"There are lots of big differences between Torment and I; between I and either one of my siblings. Each one of us carries a different curse from our father and the bane of being born from our mother. I think the similarities end there." He smirked. "Are you anything like your brothers, Loveless?"

Once more his overly childish nature returned and he rolled his eyes. "Torment would have to be quiet if she ever wanted to think things through. I don't think she can be quiet for that long. Whether or not she changes?" He shook his head. "I couldn't care less. Her wellfare isn't my problem."

A soft, sly smile curved his mouth as he tilted his head so that he could better see the filly. He was begining to get used to her; to her ever watchful eyes taking in each of his movements. His feathers ruffled slightly, tail swishing against his legs. "I am learning it even without being on my own. I knew 'scary' from the basket when I stumbled out to see rats everywhere... Rats and Father. Appearances can be decieving, Loveless." He had learned that the hard way. He had to learn that, given his own appearances... And the sweet look of his mother.

"Sometimes the most frightening things don't look 'scary' at all... Of course, I'm not trying to be scary now." His smirk was teasing, pale pink eyes dancing with an impish light.
