Ona'raha Subiani stretched under the sun, shaking his great shaggy mane to rid it of dust. The day had been hot, but as usual there was a pleasant breeze that kept it from being too uncomfortable. Whilst usually he was with his two dearest friends he was now alone.

He didn't often like to be alone but today - for some reason - he wanted to think. He wanted to feel...inspired! He yawned and blinked his weary eyes, turning his head slightly to gaze around him. He was a short and stocky lion, typical of an Ela'wadiyi and kindly too. He had a big, gentle heart and was timid too. Perhaps too timid.

But who could blame him?

"Mother?" He whispered, turning his head up to the grey clouds. It looked like rain today. Perhaps a storm after the humidity. Ona wouldn't have been surprised. "Are you up there mother?" His voice would not be heard by many.

An orange avian stood perched close by, watching over her charge. She was worried about him, why he had been acting strange lately. He was thoughtful and quieter than usual. Yes. Very quiet.

She felt ashamed that she hadn't spoken to him much but she had been cursed with her own problems. Finding herself a nice little mate. Kucha was beginning to realise that she was far too picky to find herself a good mate and knew deep down that she would grow old alone, never to make a nest, never to lay eggs and never to help raise fledglings.

She chirped and hopped sideways along the branch, raising her head to gaze around.

The dark female wandered aimlesly under the hot African sun. She didn't know where she was, and had no idea where she was heading. She travled where her paws took her. When she was young, they led her to an area with a few other lion cubs like herself playing in the tall grass of the pridelands. Another time, they led her to a god. Maybe this venture would lead her somewhere special aswell.

The bright sun beat down, the dark color of her fur absorbing the heat. She let her tongue lul out of her mouth to try to cool herself down. Her eyes flicked lightly when she heard a strange sound and turned her head, her crimson eyes stopped when they found themselfs on a small trial of dust floating twords her. She smiled and welcomed the breeze with open arms as she closed her eyes and the wind passed over her body, making its way through her fur.

This area was cooler than the pridelands, and she loved it. The land rose in tall sharp hills at points, a sight her eyes rarely fell upon. She continued to walk, the cool breeze giving her a burst of energy.

Though her spirit felt lifted, her paws ached with every step. "Time to take a break.." She said with a smile as she spotted a tree nearby. She ran over to it, the smile on her face wavering with every painful step she took. When she was finally under the trees shade, she collapsed and rolled on her back, letting her paws hang in the air.

Kucha had seen the lioness approach and had been so surprised that she had not been able to alert Ona until it was too late. The female was coming up from the world below and had moved towards the tree. She was as dark as shadow but possessed a stripe that ran elegantly along her back.

She turned her beady eyes to Ona who had moved to stretch out amongst the long grass and gave a chirp.

Nothing.

So slowly the orange avian flicked her wings and called down to the lioness, who seemed to be making herself comfortable.

"Hello down there traveller."

Kucha's voice finally disturbed the lounging lion and he lifted his great, shaggy head to peer into the sunshine. Something was close by.

He raised his head to the wind and sniffed then caught sight of black amongst the green. A stranger! His heart clenched fearfully and suddenly he was scrambling to his feet, backing up away from her with his head low.

Jina turned her head in response to the voice. She looked up to the branch, and then rolled back over so she lie on her stomach.

"Well hello there! She shouted up to the tree. Been a while since I saw someone else on these planes. Are you from around here?" She asked with a smile, enjoying the cool wind, soft grass, and welcomed shade.

She hadn't noticed the male yet, and only paid mind to the avain above her. Unconsciencly, her tail flicked lightly. It always seemed to have a mind of its own.

Kucha spread her wings and bobbed her head in a rather amusing fashion. "Why yes, you're on the newly formed Ela'wadiyi lands." Kucha replied, though in all honesty she wasn't sure how the pride could survive with so few of them still alive.

"You're a neighbour then, I take it?" The bird chirped, suddenly remembering Ona. She hopped round to face the other direction and called out to him. "Ona, don't go running off again. Can't you understand that the world isn't out to get you?"

Ona frowned but shook his head fiercely, cowering amongst the long grass. It was clear he was shy and it would take a while for him to gain his confidence. With Rehema and Malik he was just like any other lion, but alone he was timid and afraid.

"Ela'wadiyi..." She let the word roll off her tongue. She had never heard of the pride, though she never really got out much. She looked back up to the feathered animal above her.

"I guess you could call me a neighbor." She said, looking around. "I was born in the pridelands." Her ears perked lightly and raised her head to see over the grass in the direction that the fowl was facing. "Ona?" She asked as she looked back up to her. She didn't know there was anyone else around. Just shows how observant she can be.

The avian's eyes brightened. The Pridelands. Oh it had been a very, very long time since she had been there. That was the place she had met Mataka. A sadness swelled in her heart as she remembered how big the wild dog had grown and her tiny pups that were no doubt adults now. She had told the wild dog she was leaving to find a mate and raise her own fledglings, but she had not found the life she had wanted. Instead she had found Ona' cowering in the mountains and she had guided him home.

She was his Auri'rubani; his golden guide and she knew that until Ona' found his place she could never leave him. He needed her more than she needed a mate.

"Then you are still quite far out, though a neighbour, I think, yes." She bobbed her head. "You travelled all this way by yourself?"

Ona's ears picked up at the name 'Pridelands' and remembered what Rehema had said about that place, her and her friend Malik had left it because it had grown out of control. Perhaps this was the reason this female was here too?

"Bad place, the Pridelands." He mumbled.

Her attention was averted back to the bird. "Yeah, I just go wherever my paws lead me," she laughed lightly, "not always to the best places, but I get by." She shifted her weight to one side as she brought up her left hind leg to scratch her side.

"Oh, my name's Jinamizi" She said with a bright smile. "You can call me Jina." She lowered her head slightly.

"So long as you make sure you keep safe, travelling is wonderful." Yes Kucha couldn't help it. She was a motherly creature and she worried for everyone, even those not of her species. She had 'adopted' Mataka all that time ago and now she had adopted 'Ona' as her own. But as they needed her, Kucha needed them too.

"I am Kucha." The bird replied with a polite chirrup. "And this." She pread onw wing outwards, directing the lioness to the chocolate and white lion hiding in the grass. "Is Ona'raha Subiani." The orange remembered to add in his surname. He always seemed to use it in first introductions and she had slowly come to realise it was a sign of his heritage.

"Nice to meet you. If there's anything we can do to help you, we will."

Ona said nothing but his glassy eyes bore into the strange female. She seemed friendly enough but what if she was just tricking them. He lowered his head further as Kucha introduced him, though he couldn't help but raise it a little again - with pride.

His name meant everything to him.

She smiled up at her. "It's very nice to meet you Kucha." She replied as she glanced back over to the lion hiding in the tall grass. "Ona'raha.." she repeated under her breath. Her crimson eyes looked at him, studying his movements.

Her eyes stayed on him. There was something different about him. Like he was trying to find something that had disappeared. The look in his crystal eyes looked glassy. It seemed that he himself was lost.

The bird nodded, then feeling brave enough, she hopped down to the ground, landing a few stride's from the lionesses forepaws. There, on the ground, she chirped and whistled a merry little tune.

"Please forgive Ona, he doesn't meet many of his own kind. The pride here is very small and he tends to stick to his two close friends a lot of the time. The world has been unknind to him and it has made him wary of strangers."

"Kucha!" Ona'raha was speaking now, not mumbling as before. "Why do you do that? mCan't you see you're putting yourself in danger!" He didn't understand how Kucha could be so careless. What if she got hurt and left him all alone?

He didn't think he could stand it.

The soft chirping brought her from her trance. She looked back to the fowl and crouched down, lying on her stomach to see eye to eye. Her eyes closed half way and she let out a large yawn, a small roar emitting from her mouth.

"Oh, sorry. This nice weather is making me tired." she listened to her new friend, and looked back over when she heard the male's voice. A small smile came over her maw. "Seems he cares for you." She said, her mood suddenly changing. "I'm sorry to hear that about him.." Her ears lowered slightly. She glanced up to the sky, and then let her front paws stretch out in front of her and let the aches get worked out of her legs. "It was lovely meeting you, but I must be off." She stood, and bowed her head to her and set off in a run towards the west.
