What was you party at endgame?
Mine, which I called original variant, was Dart, Albert, and Miranda. With that set-up, Melbu was fairly easily, with only 1 death throughout the fight.

I never got to the last battle... crying I had to move right after I won the one on one battle with Miranda and that thing that's supposed to be her mom. And when I pulled out the PS again, it was GONE!
But damn, if I did get to that battle, I would've had Kongol and Haschel backing me up with Dart.

My all-star team is Dart (the guy you want to get rid of, but can't) Albert (good for decent physical and magical attack power, as well as protection magic), and Rose (decent attack, powerful magic, and some healing).
I've never lost to Melbu before, nor has a single character ever died during that fight. He is my play-thing.

I also had the Dart, Albert, and Rose combination. I found that Rose and Albert complemented each other by both having fair attack power while Albert had a bit more physical defense and Rose had more magical defense. Plus there was the defense/healing magic thing that Al mentioned.
My favorite part about those guys was their final additions, so complex, and worth several hundred failed attmepts to master. If I had tried, I bet that I even could have beaten Melbu without going Dragoon. Seriously, they sometimes were more kick a** in normal form than in Dragoon form.
Other than that I once got to Melbu with Haschel and Kongol, but it was my first time getting that far and I lost badly. It was so impossible for me that I had to restart.

I lost the first two times I fought him. Thats only because Dart was lvl 40 and so was Kongol, and Albert was Lvl 41. So yeah, I used Dart, Albert, and Kongol. Kongol was the only one with his last addition.

You're complaining about being in the early forties? Get a grip, My team was only in the late thirties. So meh.

I don't even know what level my party was... Back then I didn't pay attention to that kind of thing. All I cared about was, "Attack! Go! Attack! Go! Attack! Go!" Never bothered leveling up, or farming for gold or rare items. Just played and went where ever the game took me.

Skip-The Valiant Warrior You're complaining about being in the early forties? Get a grip, My team was only in the late thirties. So meh. I'm not complaining, just saying that I beat it out of pure dumb luck. It took me three tries before I actually killed him. It was only hard because I had to use Crush Dance due to SP. I was only taking 400 something out of him with a completed addition.

Wow. No offense, but that sucks. Mastered all additions for Dart and Albert, level 5 dragoon all. One try on Melbu. Had a lot of fun beating him. ((Not trying to sound like a jerk but I'm succeeding at that anyway...))

I would have been able to get it but I am so impatient about it that I just zoomed through the game without even looking for all the stardust. I only mastered Volcano, Crush Dance, and Moon Strike. Albert I only mastered Gust of Wind Dance. Kongol I mastered all. Meru none. Haschel none. Rose Whip Smack, and Hard Blade.

Skip-The Valiant Warrior I stopped hunting for stardust when I missed the one in Teo's house... If you missed it then just go back. You're able to after you get Coolon. One of the places it lists on the map of places to fly to is Fueno.

Neet is the path to the right where you first see Komuy in the Evergreen Forest. At least I think so. I just know I got there cause I got lost while trying to find the Wingly Forest.
