It's probually safe to asume most people here would be prone to going though used/free books and such
anyone ever find something completely unexpected?

I remember once I found the Scions of Shannara book (which got me into the series that remained one of my faverates thoughout high school) for a quarter in a public libray's used book pile as well as some Ian Flemming James Bond novels (which I collected at the time)
My university I'm at has a Bookshelf of free books under the library, but I haven't really found anything intresting there yet other then a novelization of 'Romancing the Stone' and a poison manual from 1980 >.<

I find lots of great books. You just need to know where to look.

I was at school & I found Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban in the trash. Naturally I felt sorry for it & it's now sitting on my bookshelf; it's torn up slightly but it's still readable.

I was looking at a modle home today and they had books up on the shelf to demonstrate usefulness or something like that. I personaly picked one up and would have walked out with it if I didn't know about the security camras they had to prevent theft. Thats probably not a good thing but I felt sorry for the books, as doing just that was probably all they ever used them for. crying

I love the hardcover edition of Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers that I came across in a used bookstore. It's almost in perfect condition, except for a white smudge of what looks like paint on the front cover. It was only six dollars too.

I agree, I am always going to Good Will to see if they have good books there. I was introduced to some of my favorite authors that way.

I often find books at library sales... in fact they are often books I saw new and considered... books haunt me.

The other day I went to a flea market and I got Mossflower, Dune, Don Quixote, Les Misérables, a French dictionary, and War and Peace in new condition. They were a dollar each. It made me happy.

I love used book stores and library sales. I get to save books that would otherwise be thrown away! At a used book store that I visit a lot I found Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams in very good condition and a book called Witches Grave that I now love. At a library sale I found a book of Shakespeare's tragedies, a book of quotes, and a German dictionary.

My sister saved an art book once, & she doesn't even like reading very much. eek I believe all of us in this guild would try to save a book no matter what kind it is. Ah, the wonders of being a book lover. xd

I went to a yard sale with a friend one day, and they had a box of old comic books. When I flipped through them I found the first two books of The Cronicles of Narnia, with the original (first edition) covers! They sold them to me for just 25 cents each!

I found a beautiful, green leather-bound copy of Sherlock Holmes in my grandma's garage after her yard sale. It was coated with dust to the point where I couldn't see the title. With a little cleaning up, it made it into my library. The pages aren't even damaged!

I went to a used book store once and I found six an Ellery Queen book for 5 dollars, kinda beat up but still in good condition. I also found five Stephen King books in good condition and the original Japanese version of the fifth volume of the Ayashi no Ceres manga in mint condition. Good find if I do say so myself.
