He dropped to his knees, and let forth a terrifying roar.
MOTHERRRRRRRRR!!!!!
He slammed his fist against the inpenetrable door, soaking in every inch of pain that drove in through his knuckles. His muscles were at least twice as large as normal, and He donned a pretty extensive suit of ebony armor...but it all meant nothing. Even the fabled Gild-Roi's metamorphosis skills couldn't help him catch those brats. He'd failed...
NO. HE HADN'T FAILED YET.
He stood, resolutely, Skip's teasing, juvenile face flashing through his mind...haunting him...
That ********. He would bleed yet.
Breathing in, he let his new plan of action take hold of his thoughts.
No longer would he make excuses...no longer would he do his "******** mother. Millenia. Pfft. Some help she ******** turned out to be...
No. This was his time. He would succeed. For himself.

The room was dark...but it seemed like a thousand lights wouldn't light up the entirety of its expanses. Then suddenly,
Hello. Welcome to F.A.T.E., the First Active Tactics Excercise program, where we train wonderful students like you to be the future of Subania...and Lonar. To begin, we will scan your biosystems. Is that okay? To indicate yes, say..."yes". To indicate no, say..."no".
The neutral woman's voice was all too familiar. Recorded phone messages, computer text-reading, automated services and announcements, Disney World...it was all exactly the same. Perfect speech, a little too happy about the job, and a definite creepiness about her...
You know what else was creepy? The room. Yep. Just putting that out there.

Skip blinked a few times, then looked at the others for consent. Emerald wasn't really making any effort to express an opinion (nor was she able to), and Skip couldn't even really see Vixen or hear her say anything. He wondered if they were scanned, would that trigger a security alarm of some kind? Ellisent wasn't too keen on them being out and about, but then again, he was right outside, and hadn't come in yet, so Skip reasoned that in any case they were safe. If they had survived this long in here, there was no fear of security systems, right?
Content with this decision, and not waiting for Vixen's input (the adrenaline rush from a few moments ago had washed away his courtesy), Skip said, very loudly, "Yes."

The virtual babe-voice continued.
One moment please. Scanning......
Still, no visual. Just pitch blackness. Was this some kind of a hoax? Who was this techno b***h, anyway? Was she-
Scan complete. Skip Fairiat, Vixen Tufts, and Eva Emerald. Is that correct?
Oh. Hot damn.

Oh. That was pretty cool. Skip looked about himself. Well, nothing had tried to kill them yet. So far, so good. Skip saw no problems with continuing. And besides, the voice was correct. "Yes. Yes it is," said Skip, nodding.

It was then that Skip went blind.
For a few seconds.
Taking the group by surprise, a huge, virtually-projected screen suddenly affixed itself to the empty air around them. It was pretty freaking starling; a white explosion of light and radiation, the screen was bright enough to light up the whole 10th floor of Subania. Yet...with all of its light...they still saw nothing but blackness around them. No walls...ceiling...floors...none of it. Some place, huh?
After about 15 seconds, a pair of blue rings appeared on the screen. It seemed to be the logo for Subania, or something like that. It was pretty nifty, actually. The computer automatically ran some boring diagnostic checks, then materialized three boxes on the screen, each one displaying textual evidence of what seemed to be routine checks. There was no more fembot dialogue to guide them now, only cold words and computerized images. The mainframe ran another confirmational bioscan, then basically put them on hold as the voice came back for an encore...
Access to FATE granted. Welcome to the training program. I am sensing that this is your first time in FATE, correct? You have the option of getting an informational briefing on your training missions at hand before you become full-fledged members of the Stemlich Party. Would you like to hear this educational guide?

[Sorry the picture's too small. Won't fit on Gaia otherwise. I will tell you that the date at the top does say Mon. Dec. 29. Yes, you just learned the date of your particular timeframe.]

Albeit the creepiness, it felt like home to Vixen. There was nothing to hinder the vast expanses of her mind, which generally focused on killing and mass murders. Not too shabby, actually. She had not felt this free since her interaction with Rayven, with all the darkness and whatnot. She could almost hear her heartbeat with the stillness in the air. Well, until the automated voice decided to talk. It's piercing voice rang through the room, and Vixen got the chills. Something about the woman's chipper voice was just creepy. It asked them a question, but Vixen left Skip to that. Technology was a definite no no, and Vixen did not want to deal with it.
Skip answered with his consent, and the computer did its scan thing, or whatever. It correctly identified the trio, which was pretty impressing though she would never admit it. Then she stumbled backwards. Out of nowhere a light decided to blind her. Just one more reason to hate light and things associated with it. She looked at the screen, taking in the two rings and the date. December 29? That was close to the new year, which meant many a drunkard and pyromaniacs were loose.
Wait, what was the Stemlich party? Was it like the Nazis? Nazis were pretty fun, right? Vixen liked to think so. They had the whole mass murdering down, at least. It would have been better if they had used more gruesome techniques, though. Gas chambers were just so humane. Guide? Guides were boring, but informational. If you were into that sort of thing. Vixen was not, but she was a curious person. She wanted to see what would happen.
"Yes to the educational guide." She avoided the words like to hear and want to hear because she really didn't want to hear it. She just wanted to see what would happen.

The voice continued, giving a brief overview of FATE and your apparent mission in the training session...
After your one year of rigorous training, Ellisent Vanestra, head of Interpatient Relations...
At this point, a cheesy, far too happy Ellisent popped on screen. His toothy smile radiated pure white, and he gave off such a foul sense of fake warmth that it was almost too much to bear. No wonder he always stayed either brooding or explosive towards others...
...has trained you in combative arts, magical practice, knowledge and function of your mutation, and wiped away all your terrible, horrific morality. Opinions are for the weak. Remember that? This is the motto here at Subania and in the Stemlich Party, where we, as social and biological mutants, strive for power through diplomacy, violent and terrific wonderful bloodshed, and the destruction of everything normal humans own and love. Our goal is a noble and simple one:
1. Total domination.
...At this point, images and video of mass destruction, war, and bioterrorism all flashed across the screen, filling the white space with horror upon horror.
However, we cannot simply step out there and fight. There are others like us...at least, in the physical sense. These evil soldiers actually have consciences! Can we stand for that, comrades!? ...That's right. We must train further to grind their pesky hearts into the dust.
Hence, the FATE training system. We have created 4 sets of "alternate" Subania floors. They have the same basic map structure, but all possess qualities of terrain and stituations you may be facing in the real world. Here they are:
Another graphic popped up on screen.

The voice continued.
Your goal, as prospective members of our fine squad, is to complete or pass through all 10 floors of your map, defeat the enemies that assail you, and enter the exit gate. From there, you will recieve further instruction. You will have several means of assistance in this task, so do not be too worried. Just keep your guard up. Is that clear? Shall I repeat this message?

[But it is appreciated and cool looking.]
Vixen looked at the screens, silently shunning and appraising different places. She desperately wanted to go somewhere dark and void of light. The cavern looked very appealing for this. She'd never been in a cave, but had once heard stories of it. Dark and sinister is how many described them. They also said it was fairly cool in caves, but Vixen did not know why that would be. She imagined that it would be rather stuffy and claustrophobic feeling. She turned to Skip almost with expectance. She knew where she wanted to go, but she would actually consult with Skip. If they were going to go through ten floors of anything, they might as well agree on something. It seemed logical.
"What do you think?"
It might have been the wrong question to ask a person with many different voices inside his head. But he was very helpful, and had some brilliant ideas that kept them from Ellisent's clutches. Therefore, he got to do the decision making, if he wanted. Vixen was almost at the point of apathy, as long as she attained freedom.

Skip was grinning. His only thought was that this was so cool! Er... not the total domination part, and the smiley Ellisent. He wasn't too fond of that. But the simulated training environments looked pretty awesome. His first thought was for future tech, but when Vixen asked him what he wanted, he remembered Vixen's general dislike of machines and stuff. Even though she never openly mentioned it, she made it pretty easy for others to pick up on.
So, he looked at his other options. Forest? Too boring. Lava? Um... if everything was made of lava, they would probably burn up. Caves? Well... Skip kinda liked the dark, as long as someone was with him. And in the dark, it would be less obvious to Vixen when he would be staring at.... er... admiring her body as he realized he had started to become oddly accustomed to. He was distracted for a few more seconds with this thought, then shook his head. "Right! Um... yeah, we'll go with the caverns." He got a feeling Vixen might like this one. Dark, unknown, slightly creepy... it sounded like it was right up her alley!

The computerized voice, sensing their agreeance, asked if they were ready yet.
Have you decided upon a scenario yet, trainees?

Skip nodded. "Yes, we have. It is our decision to initiate the cavern scenario," he said, smiling both excitingly and oddly reassuringly at Vixen, though Skip knew that reassurance was something Vixen would never need, or at least not from him.
Then he realized something. Turning to Vixen, he quickly said, "Wait, what do we do about Emerald?"
