Which do you perfer, to barrow a book (like from a Library), or acually buy a copy of the book (even though you might finish reading it in a matter of hours)

I find myself buying books, I guess it's because I'm overly paranoid about things in my posession and don't like the posablility of being penilized (even if I wouldn't otherwise) if something happens to a book that I happent to be using at the time...

I also have a tendicy to hoard books, so the idea of returning them is a little distressing...
but that's a difrent story <.<

I have a policy of "Share the wealth" and I don't like deadlines so librarys are out. So insted, I barrow from friends. It works this way:

I have read one book they have read another we swap books and swap back or if one of us fineshes first the book is returned for another book that that they have also read.

the chain can go on for ages but in the long run, me and my friends read twice (( if not more)) as many books at half the cost. We all win in the end! biggrin

I purchase my books simply so i can know where they are, (plus no late fees!)

I read too many books to be able to afford to buy, so I borrow a lot from the library where I work.

Hmmm. That's tough. I like being able to go to the library, take out books, read them, and then bring them back. It's hours of entertainment, and it's free! But I do prefer to own books. Because I'm a total book hoarder. sweatdrop

It really depends on the books. If it's something that I'm sure I will like, due to author, plot, or favored series, then I am more likely to actually buy it.

However, I spend so much money on books that sometimes I just prefer getting from the library when I hear of a new title that catches my interest. I borrow from the library quite a lot actually, although sometimes it's because the books come in earlier than I expect since I'm generally pretty far back on some of the requests.

So I will get books from the library when money is tight or it's something that I'm unsure of about whether I'll end up liking it enough to warrant a purchase or repeated readings.

I often use bookstores as a sorta improv library as if I end up not likeing a book enough to keep I just return it ninja
though, to be fair, I only tend to do this only if it's been a few days sence I baught the book sweatdrop

I discovered a used bookstore last summer and I save all my unwanted books to take there because they give store credit and I have discovered some gems while browsing. Also they are good about ordering something you are looking for if they don't have it.

I usually only buy a new book if it is one I especially want. Otherwise, I read in a bookstore without buying. Being perpetually short on funds (especially now that I don't have a job), I often check books out from my college library. However, I must confess that when it comes to comics and manga, I tend to read more in the store than I buy. Those series can really add up. sweatdrop

I have spent sooo much money on buying books full price, I try to only buy used now, either from the used bookstore in my neighborhood or on amazon.com. I've been thinking of joining paper back book swap online, anyone try that yet?

I take books out from the library all the time. Then, if I decide that I like a book enough, I write it down and, if I can find it cheap, I buy it.

At the same time, though, I often buy books from the bookstore whenver I go there. This happens most often when I have a giftcard (I like to own my manga, though I still borrow from libraries), but whenever I'm in a bookstore I tend to find something. 3nodding I own so many books...

I'm horrible about returning books, so I can only barrow from friends. Also, I like buying because then I can pick it up any time I want. Plus, if I think it's really good I can give it to someone else.

I (for the most part) don't buy a book till I read it and like it. Series, however, I go ahead and buy without prior reading. New releases that get a lot of hype I rent from the library until I decide I want to invest my money on them.

I do a little of both. Usually I only buy when I'm 100% sure I'll like the book. I borrow from a library or better yet a friend when I'm unsure of a book or if a book is recommended to me. If I really like it, I'll get my own copies later. That's how I got my own copies of Wheel of Time and Harry Potter. I'm thinking of buying my own copies of Mercedes Lackey's books too cause my friends lent me those books and I'm really enjoying them.

Buy! I can't stand having to relinquish my grip on a book after two weeks, whether I'm done or not. Although, in the end, I end up borrowing them anyway just because I poor. crying
