So, when you practice, what are you currently working on? What's your routine?

Currently, I start out on a practice pad in front of my set and work through exercises out of the book Stick Control for at least a half an hour, playing the pattern on pad, and then bringing it around the kit on different parts to make sure I can control it. I also will play time and do exercises using the book Syncopation. I also play to a good deal of music.

Ultimately, I am trying to get my ride cymbal stead and swinging and to have everything groove.

I'll warm up with beats I like, then go to what's next in my book, and repeat it until it's flawless.

I start from the begining, literally. What I did on my very first lesson just hitting the hi-hat, I then begin to bring in the snare and the bass. After that ill start working on beats that I like, fills etc and then I'll begin what i've been told to practice. Sometimes I'll work with beats from a book or just do whatever comes to mind. Though I don't practice as often as I should....

I do use my pratice pad at times and just mess around on that to warm up. I move on to my drumset and also do warm ups on it that I've learned from my teacher. Then I'll do some beats out of a book. Not much, but it's pretty much having fun or I'll just get out some songs that I like and play along with them.

Usually, the Syncopation book to warm up then I play something out Funky Primer For The Rock Drummer or a lesson from my teacher.

I've been using my tenor practice pad lately since drumline is starting up and I do rounds for all the rudiments to warm up. Then I work on music for a while, usually 'till i get a part I've been working on, then i go to the set and do whatever song or beat I'm working on at the time. Right now I'm workin on Hellbound by Pantera (I posted a link to the music in the drum music post) It's pretty cool, nice double bass and stuff. I just kinda move from song to song getting new styles and beats as I go.

I usually just start off playing on my own, doodling around mixing up beats. Then get my c.d player w/ sterio headphones and play with music. After that I practive my double beats and fills, experimenting with stuff. Then it's back to playing with music for a while. After that I play from the book. My whole lesson thingy is about 3 hours long.

I start off by going through my rudiments at http://www.vicfirth.com/education/rudiments.html (I'm mainly working on Single-Flammed Mills, Swiss Triplets, and Dragadiddles). Then I go to work on the set, practicing coordination exercises with "Extreme Interdependence" (WB, Marco Minnemann), and also some drumset rudiments, and I'm starting to practice my rudiments with different combinations of limbs. Then I pretty much free play, and also every now and then play with music. I mostly work on Time modulation and polyrhythms. I'm also working heavily with the double bass drums, using Joe Stronsick's method.

Cool, I use those same rudiments too. So far I'm checked off (meaning I can do them at platnum speed at least) up to number 25. We have to get as far as possable on the charts for drumline and it's been good for my playing to get into the rudiments more.

Right now I'll go to my kit and play along with about four songs with headphones. I'll play Hemispheres, 2112, Natural Science, and Xanadu, all songs by Rush. Or I'll just play random beats, double bass exercises, other songs, off-time beats, or basic exercises. But usually I'll play those four songs.
