Sarafina poked her head from the cave entrance while the light outside was still grey. The red fur of her closest brother twined lightly with hers as she brushed against him, stretching herself out before slipping from the family's den. Most of their family still seemed to be sleeping, but she had always been an early riser. There was something inside of her that stirred, restless, against all vestiges of sleep; it woke her at the earliest possible time each morning and kept her active long after the sun had faded from the sky.
Now the cub shook the sleep from her fur and padded down to the nearby stream to take a drink. Tiah may not have liked her cubs going off on their own so soon, but Sara rarely cared for such rules. In her mind she was perfectly capable of caring for herself. Her colours were good for blending in to the surroundings, save the white in her ears, but she tucked those out of sight and disappeared into the grass. Soon the summer would take this water source from them, but for now the cubs knew nothing of that thirsty time.
There wasn't anything by the water's edge that morning but the faint buzz of insects that were getting ready for bed with the dawning of the sun. Sarafina lowered her muzzle to the cool solstice, lapping it. The first golden ray of sun broke over the horizon then, shattering the half-light of the false done and casting sparkles over the stream that constituted the little girl's breakfast. Eyes half open, the cub jumped as something seemed to flash from her peripheral vision.
Sarafina jerked her head up, looking about her for the lion she had thought she'd seen. Heart-thumping with anticipation, her adorable features were marred by a frown when she was greeted by nothing but air. After turning in a circle to check her surrounding area, the female looked back at the surface of the water. That was weird, she thought--annoyed now at herself for being caught off guard, regardless that no one had been present to see her shock.

Small black claws unsheathed themselves as he stretched. Shaking out his wine colored fur, Ru Shou finally woke from his dreams. The rather large cub pulled himself onto his belly letting out a long yawn. Tiah's warmth was was too inviting as he sank his head back, nuzzling into the soft dense fur of her leg. With another yawn, Shou took a short look around siblings. It did't take long for him to note his sister's vacant spot.
Shou blinked as he tried to sort out whre she was. Perhaps it ws a trick of the light. Even shadows could hade light fur...right? If it had been anyone else, he would've placed his head back down and drifted back off into sleep but this was Sarafina. Anything within Murphy's law could come into play especially if she was alone for a long period of time. For once, he actually didn't to go and yet he found himself stalking after her.
He didn't enjoy being up early.
Shou wasn't built for early morning hours and finding his well adapted sister would prove a rather arduous task for him.

Drink taken, the sound of steps on the grass behind her caused the young cub's ears to twitch. A single glance over her shoulder spotted the wine coat in the glass, highlighted by the red of the dawn as her own coat melted into light. She smirked a little and took the chance to slip from the shore and into the grass. A huntress she wasn't--not yet, at least--but the girl practiced every day, usually in moments such as this.
Slowly she hunted her own brother, a wicked smile drawn upon her lips. Such violent, malicious games never ceased to amuse her--a factor their mother seemed content to overlook as the girls were somewhat favored in Tiah's eyes--and the best hunts were her own family. These she would never hurt, though, at least intentionally. Finally, the lioness sprung towards her brother from the grass, attempting to pin him from behind.
Whether or not she succeeded, the female rolled away and into the grass to lay on her side. "What're you doing up?" She asked, blunt as always. Ru Shou was the last of them that might normally have woken on any given day. Indeed, Sara was somewhat surprised that Tahka hadn't shown himself yet.

Shou wandered aimlessly around the tall grass His eyes were still heavy lidded with the unfamiliarity or being up at dawn. Oblivious to his sister's stalking abilities, the cub continued through the grass. Maybe coming out to look for her was a mistake. It wasn't like he couldn't find his way back home but finding his sister was probably near impossible.
The cub barely let out a yawn when he was nearly thrown to the ground. He stumbled on his paws but caught himself after a few moments of precarious wobbling. He immediately contorted his muzzle with disdain and turned to the would be attacker.
He should have known. Shou gave off a loud huff. At least it was her and not some crazy hyena...even if she did nearly know him down.
"You left, I followed" It wasn't really an answer but it was close enough for him. "Why'd you leave?"

"Yeah, but you're not usually up this early," Sara pointed out. It wasn't that she minded--it was Ra Shou after all; this brother was alright in her books. Grinning viciously, she narrowed her green eyes at him. "Did you want to help me with something?"

Shou shrugged at her comment. It wasn't customary that he was up but she had roused him from his sleep anyway. Why stay when he could have a bit of alone time with the little tyrant. It wasn't everyday that he got to talk one on one with his siblings anyway.
What could Sara be thinking now? Small, pinpoint claws scratched at the dust as he raised his brow to her. "With what, sister?..."

"Follow me," She grinned, jerking her head off towards the distance. Standing once more, the female turned and headed that way at a slow lope, allowing him to catch and keep pace with her. They were headed towards the water hole, it seemed, but there wasn't too much open this morning. "I found something yesterday that I want.. but its kind of hard to get to. I'll share them with you..."
The offer was a strange one for her, but she had no intentions of going back on her promise to him if they did succeed. This wasn't a mission for the faint of heart, as proven by the sight of what awaited them when they arrived.
Dropping into a crouch, Sarafina slunk her way along a small uprising over the water, looking down at the water line as she went. Something moved in the murky darkness there but she said nothing of what it was. Looking back at him, Sara held one 'toe' of her paw up to her mouth to indicate silence, then pointed downward. Directly beneath them was a small nest of crocodile eggs.
