Chapter 1

Elizabeth’s POV

I miss home. France, I mean. I miss mom. She’s still there. I haven’t seen her since I was three. Dad wanted to get as far as possible from her, which means Belleville, New Jersey.
I could have been on the other side of the world, learning a more complicated language. It wasn’t too hard for Dad to fit in. He already knew English. I was just his mute daughter who didn’t know English.
I marched through the empty hallways to Art Class. I was new at this high school because my dad got divorced and won custody of me. I knocked on the door and heard word I didn’t understand at the time. I walked in and handed my late excuse, having the excuse explaining everything since I couldn’t speak English that well. My peers would have thought I was a freak to speak fluent French.
“Miss Lathero, I would like for you to take a seat next to Mr. Way.”
“Excusez moi?” People stared at me like I was insane.
“She said, ‘Excuse me?’ I don’t think she understands what you are saying.” Gerard stood up and spoke, “Elle veut que vous asseyiez à côté de moi.” ((English: She wants you to sit next to me.))
“Ah.” I whispered. ((English: Oh.)) I walked over with my books held to my chest.
“Êtes-vous bien ?” Gerard whispered to me as Miss Sophia taught. ((English: Are you ok?)) Miss Sophia wanted to use her first name instead of her last. Our assignment for that night was to draw something that inspired us. Gerard asked me for my schedule in French of course because that’s all I understood. I handed it to him and he noticed I was in all of his classes. He asked me if I wanted him to help me through my day with translating and stuff. I shook my head yes. We headed toward our next class, English. I was a little excited for that class, but I quickly found out you don’t learn how to speak it. You learn how to properly write and stuff like that.
I started to struggle in that class during the first day. After class I walked with Gerard again to my next class.
“Pouvez-vous m'aider avec mes qualifications anglaises ?” I asked him before we reached math class. ((English: Can you help me with my English skills?))
“Oui.” ((English: Yes.))
Miraculously, I made it through the day. I had a couple of rough spots, but I made it. I clung to Gerard all day.
“Désolé pour s'accrocher avec vous toute la journée.” I spoke first breaking the silence on the walk home. I guessed that he lived near me. ((English: Sorry for clinging with you all day.))
“Il est correct.” ((English: It’s ok.))
“Merci.” He replied. I walked in my front door when I got home and told Gerard to wait at the door. I told Dad that I was going to be at a friend’s house. I went back to Gerard and we went to his house.

I’ll tell ya. It wasn’t uncomfortable being with a guy alone. It was with two guys. Gerard introduced me to his little brother Mikey.
“Ah, d'ailleurs, vous ne devez pas m'appeler Gerard. Vous pouvez m'appeler Gee.” I look up and nodded at him. ((English: Oh, by the way, you don't have to call me Gerard. You can call me Gee.))
He taught me the English alphabet and how to say simple word. I eventually could say small words like “cat” or “kit”.

YAY! FRENCH! I understand some of it! No, I'm not the best at speaking it but I can read it. Sorta. sweatdrop

*Gasp* SHE SWORE! Yay! You seemed WAY too self-concious about your swearing habits before... WAY too self-concious.

That's not Gerard, if it were anyone from MCR it would Frank. And I can't even tell if it's him or not. And I would know...... I'm obsessed with Frank.
