Does anyone else think he speaks English really well?
I, myself, find him alot easier to understand than Kyo.

Okay... I don't think anyone's english is harder to understand then Kyo's.

Kyo wins the "WTF did you say? O_O" award. <3

But hide's was pretty understandable. XD

But so far, I'd have to say Toshi's english is the most understandable out of all the Jrockers I've heard when singing english lyrics.

Well I think that Kyo's English is understandable.
He's gramar is pretty good for English being his second language.
I'd have to say his only fault is his accent other than that I give Kyo a A for his English skills!
Well this is only my opinion and some of my friends say that I just have an ear for accents.
Anyways...yes I agree hide-sama's and Toshi-san's English is very understandable.

LOL.

yeah, it was. Sometimes it even sounds like it's his native language.

I haven't heard Toshi's English.

I'm not referring to grammar. Just how well he says the words.

hahaha.... Kyo's English is not that understandable. And is is cause of his accent. It's not his second language either. That would imply he either spoke it from birth, or has studied it as a second language, which he didn't.

An ear for accents simply means that you can tell one from another. From what I recall.

At least there's that we agree on. hide's English. I haven't heard Toshi's.

I know you were'nt referring to his grammar, I'm just saying that Kyo has very good grammar for a person who's native tounge is Japanese because of the fact that the sentence structure between Japanese and the English language is a bit different.

Kyo's English is not that understandable in general...to the un-trained ear it my seem like "blah" because you're not that used to the way it sounds.
Well since Japanese is his first language and English is not his first language, it would technically be his second language because to me if a person can speak the language fluently to an extent and you can comprehend what they're saying thats basically another language. ex.Kyo writes some of his songs in English and sings them fairly well for a person with a heavy accent. And so does Ruki from the GazettE.

Well, I don't necessarily say/think I have an ear for accents. But my friends tell me I do because I tend to hear the English words in songs that are in a foreign language for before they do. And I don't want to sound egotisical but I do come from a Japanese decent, therefore I have more of a cultural background.

This comment was not posted flame you in anyway or be racist. I just felt that I needed to back my opinion. I'm sorry if this offened you in anyway.
And to those of you reading this post I apologize if I offened you also. And I'm sorry for posting such a long comment for you all to read. And once again this comment was not posted to offend anyone in any way.
And if anyone feels that they have been greatly offend please send me a PM and I shall apologize to you personally.

I have to agree with my Car Crash friend over there about the English and Kyo's grammar. He's sure a lot better at English than I am at my languages that I learn in school. So yeah, if that means anything to anyone...

And about the ear for languages thing. I am one of the friends that told her she has that. It's not about being high or mighty or anything, it's just simply stating that people with ears for languages have usually been more exposed to it enough that they can hear the discrepancies from the original language and recognize the English quicker. I admit that I don't have this talent. Miyuki-chan (Car Crash) tends to hear the English right away before I can even comprehend that the lyrics may not sound Japanese, like with the GazettE's songs "SILLY GOD DISCO" and "Carry?"

The culture thing is basically playing along the lines of exposure once again, because it kind of surrounds you and becomes part of who you are. But this doesn't mean that because you have Japanese blood that you'll immediately catch English phrases in Japanese songs. If that was true I'd be fluent in Japanese and Korean, which I'm not. So it's like saying that because it's integrated in the culture, it's usually easier to be accustomed to noticing these small details.

And that is all I wanted to say. I'm sorry, this is so LONG. I'm very long-winded in explanations...I just felt some things needed to be said...Sorry again sweatdrop .

I'm not offended, nor do I think you're being racist.

I do understand some of the words he says in English. Just some I never will, in songs.

My opinion, he doesn't speak fluently though, judging from his singing.

I can see where you're coming from...but I'm sorry I must contradict you on this matter. When Kyo sings it general it does sound like he don't speak English fluently and daily. But, we must take into account that most of Dir en Grey's songs and more so recent songs have more screaming, which tends to distort Kyo's voice a bit and slur his pronunciation of Japanese/English words in the song. So, in my opinion one cannot know the full of extent of his English skills...unless that is you meet him in person lol Which I would love to along with the rest of Diru. Gah sorry again I have a habit of contradicting people and I tend over analyze songs/lyrics and such. sweatdrop

Well, this is fun. I don't understand every word he says in Japanese, but the ones I know I understand. So, it stands to reason it should be the same for English, except for the fact his English is funny, and you won't get me to see it any differently.

This is supposed to be about hide's English, anyway. I only made a small comparison, and now it's all about Kyo. scream

back to hide's english:

I think in some parts its easy to understand, sometimes its difficult, but the same can be said for Toshi's english when singing, I thought that Endless Rain, Unfinished, and other songs were purely in Japanese. Of course those were old songs. Yoshikis english is pretty good too ^_^...sorry...that kinda got away from hide's english xd
PostPosted: Fri May 25, 2007 12:13 pm

Yeah, it's not always easy to understand, but mostly. smile

I haven't heard those songs, yet.

I've never heard their English, but I've seen sites where it's in English, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I just enjoy listening to hide in English. And how he switches so effortlessly from one to the other.

Well, I would think hide's english had to be at least understandable seeming as to how he was in LA a lot (and I don't think the members of Zilch were Japanese...? xD). I deffinitely give hide kudo's for his english pronounciation, perfectly understandable, in my opinion.

that's because Hide has been in america ten times more in his life time than Dir en Grey has. There was a rumor that he had a house in L.A before he died. (yoshiki actually does but they aren't s sure about hide)
