Aoaka was in the shallows of the lake, swimming on his back, with Debi held safely on his chest.
She waved her arms in happiness, giggling. saying, "Yay! Yay!" as they sped along, pushed by powerful strokes of Aoaka's tail.
Of course, with Debi, this could only last so long, and so it happened that she saw something brightly colored in the sand beneath them and wanted to know what it was. Aoaka's speed took them past it quickly, and Debi squirmed around in Aoaka's grip, reaching back the way they'd come from. A whimper escaped from her as she screwed her face up into the grimace that the gray Naiad had learned meant she was going to throw a tantrum if he didn't do something soon.
He quickly slowed, balancing her in his arms and tried to catch her attention with something amusing. "What's wrong, Debi? Please don't cry... Here, watch this, sweetie," he said, and made a small spout of water leap into the air. This usually amused the little demon but not today.
She wanted that bright shiny thing! She swatted irritably at the spout, and huffed a few times, working herself up into the tantrum. She reached back the way they had come again, but it seemed he wasn't getting it, and she flailed dramatically.
Aoaka looked around desperately, trying to think of something... She liked games and things that shined, neither of which he had with him, but she also liked... jokes. Unfortunately for him, Aoaka's mind had blanked with the impending doom of Debi's tantrum. Once she started screaming, there was little he could do to calm her down until she wore herself out.
"Uh... jokejokejoke..." he tried to spur himself into thought, to no avail.

Coral found herself swimming and then saw Aoaka and a baby. She made a bee line over to them. She'd never met another like her before. It would be nice to see them. "Hello! I'm Coral." She held out her hand for a shake. Not know that it had electicity in it.

Aoaka hadn't noticed the young Naiad swimming towards them in his state, and startled a little when she spoke up. But, despite the unhappy toddler and his own distraction, his manners still held intact.
"Oh! Ah... My name is Aoaka, it's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Coral," he said, reaching out to clasp her hand gently. Of course, as soon as he did so, he got a jolt of electricity throughout his body, slightly amplified by the water they were in. He jumped again, and blinked down at her.
"What... what was that?" he asked, surprised. That had never happened with any other Pae.
Debi, meanwhile, found the arrival of the new Pae almost as interesting as the shiny thing down the beach, and her expression cleared for a moment. Of course, the new arrival meant Aoaka's attention was not on her... so she waved her arms and stuck out her tongue at the new girl.
"Debi, please don't do that... It's not nice!" Aoaka pleaded and bounced her gently, grateful at least that she seemed to have forgotten her tantrum of a few moments ago. Sort of, anyway. She still didn't look very happy...

Coral giggled as he was shocked. That was new and kinda funny. "Ah, I see that's a power thingy." She said as she looked to the toddler.
"Hiya. Nice face. That's a good one. Have you seen this one?" Coral then stuck out her tounge and then pushed up her eyes with her other fingers.

Power... thingy? So that was the power she got from the potions? Aoaka wondered to himself. He also wondered if it happened every time she shook someone's hand. That could be a problem... But she was talking to Debi now, and he re-centered his attention on that.
Debi paused in her face making as she was spoken to by Coral, who then made an amazing face, one the little girl had never seen before. She stopped what she was doing and stared, mouth slightly open in amazement. She blinked a couple times, then hid her face in Aoaka's hair, peering out between the long strands. She was only feigning shyness, as she giggled where she hid.
Aoaka smiled. The female Pae he'd met all seemed to have some sort of knack with Debi that he never did, and they all seemed to come by with spectacular timing when he and the little one were out and about.
"You're pretty good at that," he said quietly to Coral.

Coral stopped and nodded. "Thanks. Now who wants to hear a joke? I know a few or at least I've tried makeing up a few. I have to try 'em out. I think I'm funny, but I'm bai-se?" She wasn't sure the word so she did the best she could. She was glad the girl seemed to like it.

Aoaka nodded, looking interested. "I think we'd both like to hear a joke, Coral. Isn't that right, Debi?" he asked the little girl in his arms.
Debi thought for a moment, and put on a serious face, then reached towards the other girl with one hand.
"Yea!" she exclaimed.

((I wanted to say that I will be gone Sat-Mon at my grandma's without any computer access. I won't be able to reply until then.))
Coral smiled and thought for a moment. The shell phone hadn't worked so what would be a better one.
"The other day I saw the strangest thing. I saw one fish chasing another fish. The chasing one was barking while the other was eaowing. It turns out they were a dog fish and cat fish.m" Okay, so that one was sorta lame, but Coral didn't mind. She figured it was the way you tell it more then the joke itself sometimes.

Aoaka laughed at that one, picturing it in his head. It wasn't a belly laugh, but it was genuine. "That was a good one, Coral," he said.
Debi, on the other hand, had never seen a cat or a dog, so she didn't really get it. And she was a harsh critic, making a 'phbbbbbt' noise with her tongue at Coral, and giving her Papa a sharp tug on his hair, which made him wince.

Coral smiled to Aoaka but frowned at the little one. Why was it that no one under adult ever got her jokes? She didn't think she was old enough to make up adult jokes yet. She just wasn't sure. "Well, how about Knock Knock?"

(( Sorry... I kinda died for a while. ))
Aoaka nodded, and said, "Alright. I always enjoy those." Debi was trying to squirm away, so he resettled her and then smiled at Coral to let her know they were ready.
Debi just reached towards Coral after she was thwarted. She'd only been trying to get closer. Coral was interesting alright, and that was all that mattered to the toddler. She hadn't yet had enough experience to realize these jokes were actually funny.

"Knock Knock." Coral said as she watched the toddler. Shouldn't she be on land or something? She remembed the time she played with a toddler and he couldn't go too deep in the water. Then again she was on the adult Naiad's chest.

Debi brightened considerably at that phrase. She'd done this before!
"Who der?" she said, in a cute still-learning-to-speak voice. And again, she tried to squirm away from Aoaka towards Coral.
Aoaka sighed, and decided that after this joke, he would go on land, so she could crawl where she wanted without him worrying if she'd actually get free of him. Not that she was in any real danger. Being the daughter of a Naiad means knowing how to swim, or at least dog paddle almost right away... but he was still a worrywart.

Debi thought for a moment, remembering what came next. She clapped, and said, "Water who?" happy that she'd remembered.
Aoaka, meanwhile, watched the two of them happily, switching his gaze from one to the other as they talked. He was glad they'd found someone who wasn't an adult, someone who could probably relate to the little girl better.
