I think it could have been Regulus Black. They said he wanted to quit the Death Eaters because he was frightened, but didn't Voldemoet kill him personally? (If memory serves, I may be wrong). It could have been him. Or someone we've never heard of......

I believe it to be Regulus. People say it isn't because he was said to be a coward, but it was Sirius who said that, and Sirius was a biasd little b*****d to anyone he didn't like.

I think it is Regulus as well. He's the only person, really, so far that fits the initials (not that it couldn't be someone new, but still). Also, remember when they were cleaning Grimmauld Place and there was a locket they couldn't open? Perhaps Regulus was unsuccessful in destroying the horcrux and that locket was it.

Regulus definately jumped to mind when I read the initals...not much is known about him...and since the note said "I'll be long since dead when you read this," fingers are pointing towards the unknown Black.

Hm, yes, I would say that is a fair guess, I have nothing better myself to contribute to such guessing. I, however, did think it might be a groiup of people-but that wouldn't be right and it would be more like 'R.A.B' or 'R.A. & B.' So I have nothing for it.

Actually. Regulus wasn't killed by Voldemort himself. But maybe Voldemort didn't know. But then again Sirius said he didn't think he was important enough to be killed by Voldemort himself...
A friend and I were threoizing and we thought there is a possiblity that Regulus' middle name was Alphard. Because he did have an uncle named Alphard.

I was thinking the same thing about Alphard. But about Sirius, it sounded as though he didn't really know for sure what happened to Regulus. He said he was killed by Voldemort, but then corrected himself, saying that that probably wasn't the case (since he felt he wasn't important enough). However, if Regulus did indeed steal a horcrux, I imagine that would make him important enough to be killed by Voldemort.

Of course unless voldemort didn't know... because the Horcrux was still there. Maybe Voldemort had no idea, and killed Regulus because his loyalties changed... maybe his whole idea on the situation changed, and he decided to steal the Horcruxes, and destroy them... and then betray Voldemort and be killed afterward? Or maybe while he was serching for the Horcruxes, Voldemort started to see that Regulus was meddling around, maybe asking questions, and then decided to ride him of Regulus, not thinking about how serious the situation is?

It could be Regulus... or it could be someone J.K. has forgotten to mention. It could be possible.... but it's probably Regulus.
