Looking around, I can see that technical workers and actors are well represented in the guild. But what about playwrights? Is there anyone besides me here who has tried their hand at putting the words in other people's mouths? I'm going to feel awfully lonely if no one else is. (I did feel lonely at Florida State Festival when they had no Playwright tee-shirts.)
Also, any frustrations with formats/competitions/etc?
"I'M A PLAYWRIGHT. WITHOUT ME, YOU'D JUST BE STANDING THERE LOOKING FUNNY WITH NOTHING TO SAY."

Awesome! smile I write comedies mostly. It makes me feel immature sometimes. At the Playwright Workshop at FLST Festival everyone else had these serious scripts and was writing these serious scenes for the prompts, and I had a comedy and was writing goofy scenes. Someone had a scene about an abortion and I had a scene that went...
1: You ran over my dog? 2: Well, yes. 1: you ran over my dog? 2: That's what I just said. 1: (laughing) 2: Are you okay? 1: I haven't got a dog.

nice, then it must have been really funny after all those serious scenes. I usually just write whatever I feel like writing at the moment. Most of it is quirkly little things...which I probably have lying around collecting dust in my computer somewhere...If I find them I'll post them in my journal. 3nodding

Yes we're here!
I've written a few things, and recently won a playwriting award out of Circle Theatre in Ft. Worth!
I think we're here we're just hiding under the facade of actors, techies, actors/techies, and techie/actors

Haha. That's cute!
Yeah, I'm a techie/actress/dance chorus member/playwright. I've actually just been referred to as "The Playwright" at drama club.
Sponsor: Oh, talk to The Playwright. She's over there. Me: Who, me? Sponsor: Yeah, you. Me: So, I'm The Playwright? Is this like The Oracle or something from the Matrix? Can I write things and make them come true? Sponsor: No...
And this wasn't during our student script production. sweatdrop

Freaking I LOVE writing. rofl You all have such cute ideas! I love your scenes. heart
I'm like a monologue machine. Monologues galore. What I cannot write is a scene longer than five minutes. Any suggestions or books I should read to get past it? It's really becoming a problem for me... sweatdrop I'm currently writing a play about a couple of soldiers in a sort of Samuel Beckett meets "Fight Club" fashion and I can't freaking END THE SUCKER. xp

Try coming up with a snappy resolution to the story, perhaps with cool dialogue.

I wrote a 2 act drama (The Unnamed Christmas Drama)
started on a murder mystery that turned really poorly and overly violent (was supposed to be funny) so I just ditched that x.x
I wrote a short story called "A Story to Make You Smile" (which is a drama xD!) and my friends are trying to convince me to make it a play
I've started to write another slightly dramatic play called "Alztehemeir's Eve"
then my friend and I are collaborating on a joke version of "Romeo and Juliet" called "Ro-emo and Jules-iet" (a modern day highschool emo/goths v.s. jocks)
and finally I have some monolouges that aren't all that great....I wrote them when I was moody xD. I wrote a really cool one that was sorotf Anne Frank ish...I loved it...must find it xD.
[Edit] Oh yeah! I also wrote a scene about Starbucks completely running out of coffee for theatre camp

I've started a number of plays and one-acts; I worked on one very abstract piece for about half a year, and am probably going to adapt it into something more manageable and moldable. But I just finished my first one-act called What Now?, which may be produced next year either at my school or another school out of state.
