It was a beautiful day in the Jungle, almost unusually so for one small cub who found she was enjoying herself a bit more than normal. As far as Kafiri knew, everyone had gone off to do their own thing for the afternoon and so had she- except she was glad to have some company with her. Her brother had come with her, and she was rather happy to have him around. Mezi was a little strange sometimes, but overall she was rather fond of him. She'd never questioned his agreeing to go looking for some flowers, and focused instead on the search for the colorful plants.
Kafiri wove through the trees contently, keeping her grey eyes open for anything that stood out in the green Jungle background. It was only by chance that she stumbled upon one particularly strange flower, it stood alone as far as she could tell- other than the tree it was beside. It was pretty, though.
"Mezi!" she called, her voice louder than it normally was- an indication that she was more comfortable around just Mezi than everyone else, "Come look at what I found." Her eyes never left the flower as she waited for him to appear.

Being the independant soul that he was, Mezi found it hard to feel close to any of his siblings. If he felt most at home with any of them, though, it was the meek little Kafiri. Perhaps it was that they were complete opposites on the confidence spectrum, so that they did not clash; or perhaps it was just that she was generally sweet and gentle. Either way, he felt at ease with her, and didn't feel nearly as strong an urge to seem cool and collected as he did with pretty much everything else in life. She had become more like a piece of his habitat, like the flowers he loved to surround himself with. Even though there was a bit of jealousy in the coat color depeartment, he seemed to be able to get past it enough to enjoy her company.
Unfortunatley, he didn't feel comfortable enough with her to admit his love of flowers. That was such an intamitely personal aspect of his life, that he felt he shouldn't tell any one about it. He knew deep down that she wouldn't care all that much, but there was still that hurdle. In his mind, it would chip away from his image. So, he hadn't told her exactly why they were on this little nature walk. Luckily, she didn't seem to care much.
Plodding along somewhat merrily, the young leopon sped up excitedly when he heard his sister's call. He got to her in a matter of moments, and quickly surveyed the gorgeous flower she had found. He'd never seen one quite like it before; the petals were broad and spectacular, a sort of purpley blue. It was rich, though, not like his coat... More like the glittery feathers of a hummingbird. "Good job, Kafiri." He smiled delightedly.

One grumbly mother was out for a stroll after a couple of cubs that had wandered too far away. Mezi and Kafiri must not have realized how far they had gone from their home, and normally Mleli wouldn't care that much. The adult was allowed to wander how she pleased, but she liked to set limits for the cubs- and part of her reasoning was because of exactly where they were now. While on her own leisurely walk, Mleli had caught the scent of two of her brats that lead to rather familiar territory. Not exactly a proud mother, she wasn't keen on having her offspring being shown off running around the Jungle like they were.
Not here, at least.
So the leopardess followed their footprints and followed their scents. Cubs weren't too difficult to track, except for the fact that their paths were often inconsistent and difficult to follow exactly. Soon Mleli spotted nearby a familiar white cub, and a familiar purple cub. With a roll of her eyes, she picked up the pace.
"Mezi, Kafiri," she snapped when she was within audible range. Kafiri admired the flower brightly, smiling inwardly as Mezi complimented her for the find. It was not too often that she heard such things, and was actually having some fun while they were out. "I've never seen a flower like this before," she commented, looking from it to Mezi, "Do you think that there are more of them?" She took the chance to look around them, it didn't look like there were any around here. However, there was something else around that she caught sight of in the corner of her eye just before it growlled out their names.
"Mezi," she whispered, immediately losing the smile. Why would their mother be out here looking for them? Sure, she might happen by but it didn't seem much like she had shown up to join in the fun.

"Dunno." The young male searched around the greenery for a few minutes, but turned up with nothing. He didn't look extra hard; the one flower was so vibrant, any others would surely have stuck out. There might be some more around the area, though. Maybe they should keep looking around and they might... Crud.
The rather strained whisper coupled with a none too happy call rained on his flower parade. He closed his eyes in slight annoyance and exhaled deeply. He'd never lost his temper with his mom, and he didn't plan on it. She was grumpy when they were all nice to her; he didn't even want to imagine what she would be like if they were to cop and attitude with her. With a longing look at the flower, he turned his head round in time to see the spotted leopardess headed their way. "Goody." He muttered it low and under his breath, barely loud enough for Kafiri to hear. He had really wanted to find more of those flowers, too. What bad luck. Perking up lightly as to seem polite, the cub called out in a sing songy voice to his mother. "Something wrong, Mom?" He hadn't noticed just how far he and his sister had wandered, and so hadn't a clue why she would be so grumpy. Besides her usual reasons, at least.

-Tego, ever the king of showing up when his presence was unwanted, just so happened to live up to his name once more this mild afternoon, ears flickering at the sounds of life in the distance. Voices, a few of them actually. And though he could not make out words, he could make out snippits and tones none of them particularly gruff or aggresive.
So he'd lifted himself from where he'd lie sharpening his claws, shaking loose the cool dirt that clung to his underside. And slowly did he make his way towards the sounds.
Who knew who it was? But it wasn't as if he particularly cared. Any poor fool that wound up anywhere near the leopard was free game, and today thanks to his boredom, it'd be no different.
Slowing to a soft creep as the voice's grew louder he almost swore he heard a famliar voice, before dismissing it, as spots of color began to show through the greens of the jungle. And as the scene of the two cubs unfolded before him, still having not noticed their mother, he couldn't help but pipe up, characteristically unpleasant grin touching the face that emerged from the foilage.- "My my... What are a bunch of freaks doing around my side of the jungle?"

Mleli frowned at her two youngest cubs, fully ready to blame them for their accidental journey away from their relatively safe home territory. She was mildly annoyed at the sing-song tone that Mezi used to ask if something was wrong.
"Yes, something is wrong," she hissed at them, her own personal way of scolding, "You aren't anywhere near ou- my territory right no-" It was an exageration, but she never got to finish it before she heard something approaching. With her luck, she could just guess who was going to make an appearance. Of course he would show up. Her distateful frown only deepened, and she tensed as a very familiar and unwelcome leopard emerged from the brush.
She made no motion to come to her cubs aid right away. Though she could easily slink off and avoid having herself associated with them, Mleli was not about to do any such thing. Besides, Tego knew her sister and might recognize the pattern on Mezi's back.
Kafiri winced as Mezi's question got a hissy answer, clearly they had some something wrong. It wasn't too surprising, though- she'd already realized mother would never come find them unless she needed them for something or they had done something wrong. The cub still had a lot to learn about keeping herself safe, and did not even notice any indication that someone was approaching them- only that their mother had stopped mid-scold.
She was startled when from another direction came a very unpleasant voice. Kafiri turned around immediately, and her silver eyes widened at the sight of a strange leopard with an unfriendly expression, spouting words most of her siblings and her knew too well.
"It's a leopard," Kafiri whispered in a hushed voice to Mezi, her ears back and whole posture nervous.

Perhaps it hadn't been the best idea ever to seem so jolly when he had called out, now that his mom sounded so very annoyed. He sighed a little and tried his best to look emotionless as his mother neared. He listened to her scolding almost mechanically, so that when she suddenly stopped, he looked up a little in shock. Just as he was about to say something, the other leopard's voice rang into his ears. He whipped around his head to see another leopard. A male leopard. He heard Kafiri, but it barely registered. He was excited, yet disappointed all at once. The words that had just been spat at him stung like a bug sting. Freak? He knew that Mom wasn't fond of their half and half species, but it hurt so much more when some one else said it. He looked at his paws quickl, trying to fight off his confusion. He had been wanting to meet a male leopard for some time now, but this male... There was just something about him.
The tense feeling on the air told him that even Mom was uncomfortable, which is no help to a cub. Dropping his stay cool attitude in a heart beat, the youngster huddled against his sister, backing up a step towards where Mleli was. She might not be the kindest of mothers, but he knew she would protect them if they needed it. Even if she was still a bit far back, and had yet to say anything in their defense, he was sure she would help them if this male tried anything. Plucking up the ounce of courage left in his body, and still from the safety of his sister's side, the little male piped out, "We aren't freaks!"

-It'd been a LONG while since Tego had bullied around cubs, and as he watched the nervousness and tense bodies of the two, he couldn't help but be egged on, slipping fully from the bushes.-
"What is the world coming to these days? Hussy slut leopardess soooo desperate they go to lions for comfort? How disgraceful." -He chided dramatically, excentiating each statement with a powerful downstep, until he finally paused, staring at the two with amusement. Besides their freakness, they were quite striking cubs marking wise. Too bad they were nothing but stupid half breeds.
Ears perking as the male cub shouted, Tego seemed less then impressed, laughing as he slunk forward another step.- "Apparently you're freakish enough that your family left you out here to die little boy."
"Isn't.. that... sad?" -His grin grew meaner with each word, eyes narrowing with soft enjoyment.-

Mleli didn't move, even when she heard her daughter densely point out that it was a leopard who had come from the bushes and then heard her son try to defend their species. No, she seemed more forgiving than she might normally have been when they were stuck in such a situation. She hardly realized that no notice had gone to her, except for credit as their hussy of a mother. Mleli let Tego get out his entire taunt, hoping it would impress upon her two youngest a good enough reason not to wander away from their own territory, and just as Tego was getting a little too close, she growlled and stepped in.
"Oh, pick on someone your own size, Tego," Mleli snapped, trying to draw attention away from the cubs as she placed herself between them and danger. She did not rush, but she was not too many steps away from them.
Kafiri did not like this, not really liking when Mezi decided to argue with the menacing stranger. She would not dare to speak up, though she half-expected her mother to finally say something when he insulted her- or, she thought it was an insult to mother. She was starting to worry by the time Tego taunted that their family left them to die, especially since mother was right there and not saying anything. Kafiri did very little more than cower against her brother, even when Mleli finally stepped out to defend them.

Despite his terror, the young male managed to give a pathetic growl. It was more of a scratchy squeek than anything else; his young age coupled with his fear hardly allowed even that much. Being the brat that he was, he had to follow up the burning insults with some sad exscuse for a comeback. He scanned the leopard for something to pick at almost desperately, finding nothing that had flaw. His coat was not nearly as impressive as his sister's, but it was the only thing he had to work with. "I'd rather look like this and be a half-breed than be a leopard and look like you. And who said we can't take care of ourselves?" Weak and a complete lie on all accounts, but it was something. He spat the words with as much venom as he could muster, while still clinging to his sister's side. He tried to not let the words get to him, but they were slowly sinking in, and doing quite a number on his mood.
Mezi had never been so happy to see his mother before. He knew she had been there, of course, but it had sort of slipped from his mind that she might come to their rescue. His body relaxed some, not entirely, but some when she moved between them and the male. He let out a deep breath, realizing that he had been holding it for a while. She could've come out earlier, sure, but he hardly cared now that she was out with them. Despite his dellusions that he could look after himself, he needed the leopardess mentally at that moment.

-His expression was less then forgiving as the young male retorted, loudly snorting a huff of air that could only be taken as laughter. Oh how they cowered. Oh how much fun.
Ears snapping upward as the brush rustled with Mleli's movement, a look of surprise dotted his expression.- "Mleli?"
-It was however the immediate look of pain that was most striking. A chord struck him subconciously, his ears dipping in a rejection that he hadn't thought about in years.
Stupid b***h. Stupid whore leopardess.
Ears lifting forward once more, the pleasantness of his game subsided, a snap of anger mingling with the aggresive stance he now took.- "You beat up on your own kind and defend little half breed freaks!?"
"What kind of a leopard are you?"
((I just realized neither kid looks like her. XD Sooo ummm, it's going to take him a moment to figure it out. Until then he gets to be a baby))

Mleli allowed her a small smirk of satisfaction at having taken most of his attention away from the two cubs. It was especially pleasant that he seemed not so high and mighty at her first appearance, though it only lasted a few seconds and he stood aggressively. Quite unlike her usual or past ways, she assumed a protective position. There were more important things than just fighting with him at the moment, though she didn't like to admit it.
"Unfortunate," she answered coldly, glaring at Tego and recalling just how their last meeting had gone, "At least I don't have to go around picking on those who are weaker than me to make myself feel better."
Kafiri was uncomfortable with the whole situation, she didn't like the way the strange leopard was talking to them, and liked how Mezi talked back to him even less. Even with their mother between them and Tego, she was frightened. When the stranger said Mleli's name, she looked over to Mezi with surprise, momentarily distracted.
"He knows mother?" she whispered quietly, not wanting to be heard but wanting to express her surprise.

((eeeek! i'm sorry guys. <3 i got really busy the past couple of weeks and somehow lost this RP in the insanity. D: ))
At the sight of the leopard's momentary reaction to seeing his mother, a surge of pride warmed Mezi's chest. He looked at Mleli with a new light, but it didn't last long. He wasn't very fond of the leopardess, at least at this stage of the game, but he was extremely happy to see her right now and liked that she had such an effect on a male leopard. He was just as surprised as his sister to hear the black and white male speak his mother's name for two reasons. One, he didn't hear it said often, as the only other adult in his life was his aunt. Two, he had never once thought that Mleli knew anyone else in the jungle other than her family. He wasn't sure why he thought that, since he had met several other inhabitents that he was not related to, but there it was. He just didn't think as the leopardess as the social type who got out and about on her own time.
Casting a glance at Kafiri, he managed to scootch even closer to her for comfort. Even though Mleli was there and he felt a bit safer, the anger in the adults' voices and the agressive stances were unnerving him. Cub instinct was kicking into over drive, telling him to run for cover and hid in a bush or something. "I didn't know mom knew anyone." He whispered as well, feeling it suited the situation. As he spoke, he shook his head in surprise, staring across the scattered leaves and plants at the other male.

"Oh REALLY Mleli. Is that right?" -He nearly spat in her direction, back hair bristling up aggressively. How dare she. How DARE she. Treat what she did to him back then like it had never occured, or like it wasn't important. Somehow he settled himself a little however, eyes narrowing.- "Just because you're taking care of some freaks now doesn't take back what a right b***h you used to be."
-Angry eyes dipping down to meet the cubs once more, he taunted aggressively, snarl of jealousy and pain sounding.- "I don't know why you're hiding behind her. SHE'S the one that cut me up and left me for dead out in the jungle when I was about your age."
-It seemed Mleli's advance had worked, though perhaps not in the manner she'd meant. Already all his thoughts had switched from the freakness of the cubs to the sins and sores of their mother.-

Mleli snarled lowly and tensing and bristling herself in response to Tego's suddenly being much more aggressive. She was, however, a bit relieved that now all of this aggression was directed towards her and not towards the cubs. When he glared down at them, she shifted a bit so they would have a harder time getting a look back at him- though she could not stop them from hearing what he said.
"Nothing has changed," she snapped, "Just like how you've never fought back- still haven't gotten over me, Tego?" Mleli spoke without truly considering her words, but this was some explanation she had forumulated for herself to use in place of having been shown mercy in their last fight. She had no problem admitting that being a mother and taking care of impressionable young half-leopards had not made her a good deal nicer, and any one of the six of them could confirm that- though she had done them the kindness of keeping them and feeding them, even teaching them a little along the way. That was enough to remove any guilt she might have felt about being so cruel.
Kafiri was nodding to agree with Mezi quietly when Tego started to sound much angrier than before- at least, he was louder. With a strangled whimper, she looked back over with wide silvery eyes. She had no idea what they were talking about, but she wasn't too surprised to hear her mother being refered to in such ways- except that she'd not really heard it in such strong words. When Tego addressed them directly, she cowered in the moment before her mother blocked her view.
Still silent when Tego said their mother had attacked him and left him for dead, she looked over at Mezi for some sort of indication of what she should think of that. Mother wouldn't do that to them, she'd come out and protected them! She wasn't nice, but she'd never actually hurt them before.. not physically. This Tego couldn't know what he was talking about.
