do you consider yourself part of the goth community? (the north american ones, not the goth lolitas.) Goth Lolita is in fact based off of the Goth look (in fact, if you look at Malice Mizer's early photos and looks before Gackt, they look very gothy) but do you consider yourself goth? I thoguht this would be a interesting thread and would be able to get people to really think

I guess technically I do.Because Goth Loli is Part of the Goth fashion.But I think that Goth Loli is completely different from the western styles .. and personally I dont really like the wester styles at all, and I hate it when people pass by and call me "Goth".So morally I dont think that Goth Lolita is part of the goth community but rather a distant cousin twice removed sweatdrop .

I agree with you on that one Nurse. I think that North American goth fashion isn't like goth lolita and were not that closely related in style. I guess kodona (which I am) and cyber-wa fashion are more similar to goth.

I don't like to wear skirts (did for fun once though and hated it) and I'm not really into the cyber-wa look or aristocrat so I became a punk/kodona

I disagree...
American gothisn't gothic style... it's the term for the changing fashions to keep the same kids into it... retro styles, skater styles, more recently cyber punk... (you get the picture) Real gothic is what you would see in the old vampire movies. (I.E.) Anne Rice, Lestat. Japanese gothic Lolita isn't punkish its more in the elegent end of it, mana has several outfits that are exactly from the pages of the 1700's - early 1900's in Europe for more of it....

I'm in the Goth Guild Redux, but that's about it. I only joined because they said all goths including Gothic Lolita were allowed. I'm more of a Punk, myself. Actually, most of the time its Goth-Punk.

absolutely not.
but then...i dont follow any 'gothic asthetic.' i like black, i like vampires...but i dont go out to be one. i wear...whatever i want. i like tophats. but tophats by themselves are not gothic. so i tend to avoid the group.
dont get me wrong, i have alot of 'gothic' friends. hell, they will even say they are gothic. but they also see the grand amount of hypocracy in the trend and can even laugh at themselves.
sorry about the ranty post.

I listen to goth rock frequently thus I'm part of the goth community. I can't really say it's much of a community because I haven't met many people who are on the same level as myself (most are on the mansonite side of things), I have some close friends I can call goth. My fashion tends to follow the goth rock style rather than gothic lolita...but I'm in the process of creating a more lolita style.

I don't say I am a goth, but I am told I am, just because I wear all black 99% of the time. I don't follow their culture, or fit into their stereotypes. I just like black. I tend to wear long, flowy skirts and corsets. I've been told that's 'new romantic', but to be honest, I have no idea, I've never really sat down and tried to classify myself. :Sweat:

I don't really like giving myself a label, but I am a darker person. And I am artistically inclined, and those are common things of modern "Goths."
So I guess I technically would be. But I'm really just me. >>;
