I've been wondering about how utterly fierce the pro-choicers on Gaia are in defense of abortion and I've come to a tentative conclusion. They realize they're losing ground and that frightens them. Look at the evidence. Americans are turning against unfettered abortion according to polls. Most of them list the three main reasons abortion should be allowed as the usual danger to the mother, rape and incest. Doctors are leaving the practice and other doctors are not moving in to replace them. Abortion clinics are decreasing, while pregnancy aid centers are increasing. Doctors and other practitioners are protected by the Hyde-Weldon Amendment from being forced to perform abortions against their will. Improved ultrasounds are allowing women to SEE their babies in the womb (a lot of women actually show off the ultrasounds as their baby's "first picture".) Many young people are repulsed by the realization that they're only alive by their mother's whim. All in all, the tide is turning and the true believers are beginning to feel threatened. That's my opinion, what do the rest of you think?

I don't really have anything against people who are ambivalent about abortion, but the vehemently pro-choice I've always seen as rather weird. Losing one's right to an abortion always seemed rather trivial to me, given the availability of birth control and support for indigent mothers. I believe Betty Friedan actually expressed a similar view, though I can't recall the source. Rape is illegal, contraception works and pregnancy is not hell--why would anyone worry so much about losing the ability to legally kill one's fetus?
Don't women have more vital priorities?

You know most people at my school are liberal and against abortions, I'm looking foward to 2012, that's when we can legally vote for the president, we actually can vote in 2010/09

Do you think your school would let you make up a formal questionnaire and pass it around, perhaps as a current events project?

I've always been of the opinion that Pro-Choicers are so vehement about their arguments because they are trying to keep themselves convinced that what they are saying is true, as well as convert people by brute psychological force.
If you claim something is true often and forcefully enough, you might convince yourself that it actually is. And due to peer pressure, if everyone around you is saying that something is true often and forcefully enough, you're likely to be convinced that it is.

MiNdCaNdY that, and a good portion of them are just plain insane. I don't know about clinically insane, but many of them have admitted freely to psychological problems and few if any of them seem to be willing to seek treatment for those problems. They'd rather just abort than seek help.
