What do you prefer to do? Do you buy a good stock guitar, and buy a mid-range and modify it? I personally would buy a good stock.

I'm a musician not a gear monkey. xd

Good + Stock

I'd be more inclined to modify. Mainly because I like building things.

But a good stock would be nice.

Um... build? mrgreen

But givin the choices I would probably buy a stock guitar. Sometimes I just feel like modding the hell out of something, and others I really don't want to.

I'm a luthier-in-training. I'm actually trying to get with the luthier at my local guitar shop to see if he'll teach me some things, and maybe let me help. Sort of an apprenticeship. I have to talk to the shop owner to get a hold of the guy though.

heh I see, well in your case its logical, but in the case of your run of the mill guitarist its best if they leave it to a professional

Depends, how much fun can I have with modding it?

In my opinion, if your not having the maximum amount of fun while modding, don't mod at all!

Modding is the way to go for me, even if I had a really good stock model. It's going to sound sort of different from anyone else, but I think that I'd have to have one that sounds a lot different from anyone else's stock guitar. It all comes down to tone and playability.

I have a little of everything, I have a modified MIM Telecaster (Standard) with a lot of modifications, I have a vintage guitar (1958 Les Paul) and a good stock (My Rickenbacker)

Ha, I agree man, completely.

If I had any idea what the hell I was doing I might consider modding. All I can do is adjust truss rods, adjust floyds, and change strings. Or in other words, I can change the oil. I can't perform a overhaul. xd
