Alturius had decided a quick trip to the lake was in order, and was moving up and down the beach. The one area he'd yet to explore, yet to see if it was worth subjegating was the lake, and it was on his list of things to figure out.

He couldn't breath underwater of course, so it would be difficult for him to do it... But he was sure he could figure out something, besides, there might be something of value down at the bottom of the water.

His thoughts were on figuring out how to get down there, and be able to come up.

"LETHE!?" the shriek cut through the air like a sharp blade. The sound of a girl in distress? Or maybe even a girl panicked? It was hard to tell, but it definately was a piercing sound not easily forgotten or ignored.

Unheard by any land-living pae'il would the giggles of a young female naiad under the water, watching her older 'sister' stomp around the beach shouting her name.

Oh wow, Alturius thought to himself as he leapt to his feet, moving quickly down the beach towards the noise. Someone has one hell of a set of pipes on them that's for sure! The sound of someone in obvious distress, and a GIRL no less, made Alturius smile. Helping out Damsels in distress was in his job description anyway!

When he saw her, his eyes widened. Holy hell... look at the legs on her! Man... I would love to get me a piece off of that... Smirking to himself he shook his head, before moving over quickly, his face shifting to a more concerned look.

"Hey you okay? Something wrong? Someone drowing?" He asked, looking up and down the beach to see if there is any sort of commotion in the water right off it.

He didn't see any, at least, nothing that would mark somo one as drowning. So he turned his gaze back to Nomia, keeping his face as concerned looking as possible.

It was hard thought, because Nomia was the kind of lady that made him wan to break out his Chesire smile.

Nomia still, even tho she'd been a pae'il for over a year now, didn't know how to read other's body language. Most of that year was spent alone after all. So the looks displayed on the face of the stranger that approached from behind were lost on her.

Turning to face the voice would reveal a face full of ... black goo?

It seems the young naiad Lethe had taken to pulling pranks on her big 'sister' these days.

Lethe had seen the stranger approach and immediately surfaced, but kept a safe distance nonetheless.

"LETHE!" Nomia stomped her foot when she spotted the yellow hair break the surface of the water. The giggles only made her more angry.

She was embarassed actually, to be seen in such a mess. She immediately started wiping at her face, trying to the goo off, only succeeding in smearing it even more. (which by the way, made Lethe giggle even more)

"I'm ... fine." She shot a glare towards the water as she inflicted on the last syllable. Looking back towards the stranger, she tried to smile, but it was hard. She was actually embarassed. "Sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but ... " She glared towards the water again. "That little terror over there thought it would be funny to throw a squid at me."

"Ah, that's not very nice of her..." Alturius chuckled, bowing his head a little. He didn't tend to carry things around with him, and unfortunatly he didn't have anything to help her get the goo off. Thinking for a moment he looked around, and spotted a plant with a large leaf. Tearing one off he moved quickly over to Nomia and handed it towards her. "Maybe this will work better than your hands?" He smiled.

Even with the Squid ink he still thought she was pretty hot. "And it's fine, it looks like you're having a bad day,"

In the water, a few yards off to Lethe's left, a small red haired head emerged. The noise had disturbed a certain young naiad while he was feeding, but it hadn't sounded like anyting big, so he'd gone to investigate. Seeing another of his own kind about his size, he'd figured it'd be safe to come closer, so he had.

She didn't seem to be seeing him though, which was fine for Zale, since he'd just now spotted the bigger land creatures. Maybe they couldn't swim? At least they wouldn't eat him... THough they seemed to be expressing interest in the other his size... Maybe they were hunting it? Should he show her his hiding spot?

Swiming closer, he waved at her, but made no noise.

He didn't know how to talk...

Nomia snatched the leaf from the boy's hand, eager to get the goo off. She'd caught a glimpse of her reflection was livid at the child naiad. "Thanks." Even when she was being less than polite (not on purpose) her voice still seemed soothing. It just naturally was so.

After a few wipes, she walked to the water's edge to see if there was a reflection. Unfortunately, the water moved too much. The only real clear reflective surface was the standing water in some of the tide pools...which, Nomia had inadvertanly stomped too far away from. She sighed and dropped her shoulders, succombing to defeating. Without even turning her head, she finally introduced herself. "I'm Nomia. Sorry again..."

She was vowing revenge in her head. Oh yes, sweet revenge. She didnt' know what, but she'd think of something.

Lethe as elated that she 'won' this battle. She knew the look on Nomia's face when she was defeated, which was often. She totally played on Nomia's love for her, and knew her big sister wouldn't do anything to harm her.

It was just barely almost too late when Lethe spotted another thing in the water ... waving at her. She'd started heading towards shore, but made a very obvious U-turn to head back to him. This was the first time she'd ever seen another pae with a tail like hers. She knew more existed, Nomia told her that much, but she'd never seen one.

"Hey! What's yer name?" she blurted as she swam towards him.

Alturius chuckled. "Alturius, and it's alright..." He reached out and took her hand, planting a light kiss on the back of it before letting it go. "It's a pleasure to meet you," He grinned, looking out at the water for a moment. "She seems to be quite a handful..." He shook his head slowly.

His mother wouldn't have allowed anything like that... But he wasn't going to go there, it wasn't pleasent and he would not wish his enemies his mother's switch...

"You come here often? Or...?" He asked again, returning his attention to the delicate flower of a female before him.

He wanted to pluck that flower BAD.

Zale tilted his head and frowned. He understood, but he didn't know how to MAKE the noises. Pointing at his mouth he shook his head. Trying to get Lethe to understand he couldn't talk. He'd never learned how to, now he wished he'd had!

Pointing at the beach then at Lethe, he then pointed down, trying to get her to get his point. He wanted to be below water.

The sky was too open for his tastes.

"You have no ideas..." Nomia looked at the back and of her hand after he'd let go of it. Not sure what to think that was. Rain did it once or twice. She didn't understand it a whole lot, but it made her feel tingly inside when Rain had done it. Not when Alturius did it, tho. It actually confused her a bit.

"I live around here." she mentioned as she focused back towards the water, seeing another child out there with Lethe. Part of her wanted to protect Lethe from strangers, but the other part, the bitter teenager part, wanted to let the sharks eat her.

Lethe stopped when she seen him waving his arms around a wiggling. She tipped her head to the side, obvously thinking and studying the boy now. She had no clue what he was trying to do, but it reminded her of something ...

Dancing!!! She started wiggling and pointing like he was. "What's yer name, kid?" she asked again while dancing. He might be a good dancer, but he was kinda rude!

Alturius chuckled and nodded, "I see, that's good, I live up over there," He pointed across the lake a ways, "It's not a great place but it does for now," He kept his smile warm and calming, not wanting to spook her any. "So aside from that brat, what brings you here?"

He was a little curious as to what she was doing out and about, and wanted to see if he could weedle his way into aligning purposes...

Zale sighed and planted his hand on his forehead, shaking his head slowly. He chewed on his cheek for awhile before finally making a sound. "Zzz" he managed. He tried again. "Zzzee..."

Grumbling he crossed his arms and tried again. "Zzzzzzzaaaeeee...."

Nomia glanced towards where he pointed for a moment, not really seeing another but trees and ... land.

She contemplated answering his question with pure honesty, but after what happened with Rain... the only other guy she ever 'randomly' met on the beach, she decided against it. "I told you, I live around here."

She waved dismissively towards the water when she seen Lethe dancing and the little boy raspberrying her. She plopped her butt down on the sand and turned to look at Alturious. Actually looking AT him, instead of thru him like before. He was unlike any pae she'd met so far. Or any she'd ever known of. This intrigued her enough to keep her attention at least.

Lethe stopped dancing and looked queerly at the boy. "Zae? You's name is Zae?" she crinkled up her nose a little, thinking it was not a good name.

Altuirus nodded and sat down near her. Somebody is in a bad mood today... He thought for a moment before letting his tail flick and wings stretch out. Things they needed to do every now and then.

"So just out for a stroll huh?" He asked, his finger drawing a little in the sand as he talked, he was trying to think of a way to broach his wants without ruining his chances, something that seemed to happen a lot...

Zale frowned and shook his head. "Zae... Zael.... Zael..." It was the best he could do right now, so he went with that. "Zael." Frowning that it didn't meet aproval as far as names went he looked at Lethe questioningly.

Nomia sighed a little, and quickly turned her glance away when she realized she had been staring at him. She had been trying to place exactly what kind of pae'il he was, but just couldn't figure it out. She decided to shrug it off. "Yeah... well ... keeping an eye on Lethe out there. Ever since she learned to walk, she's been a handful and a half." She'd actually calmed down a bit, and was talking in a more friendly tone. "I was chasing her and she jumped into the water. Once she hits the water tho, there's no catching her. By the time I got to the water's edge, I had a face full of squid." She tried wiping her face again, but the squid ink had stained her pale purple cheeks. But it wasn't like she could tell anyway. Her wings fluttered lightly behind her before dropping slightly to match her posture.

Lethe blinked, then suddenly blurted. "Zay-el? Zale?" she wondered what this kid's problem was. By now tho, she'd totally lost interest in Nomia.

Alturius looked up from his work and smiled, not that she could see it. "Well, that definatly was bratty of her..." He scooted a bit cloers, and then reached out slowly, using his hand to lift her chin a little, getting a good look at her face.

"I can't say ink does anything good for you... But I can sure as hell say it doesn't do anything bad either, you're a rather beautiful girl nomia, I'm sure you've had to fight guys off with sticks... Or if you haven't they've been blind..." He chuckled a bit. "Thankfully I'm not blind..."

Maybe he was putting it on too think, but he wanted to see her cheer up a bit, it was hard to get people in the mood if they were sad.

Zale nodded enthusiastically. That was it! He smiled and nodded. "Zale!" He said pointing at his chest, then thumping it a few times.

Progress!

Nomia wasn't used to other pae invading her personal space. This had not been an issue previously ... she was actually very clingy, but a divine punishment from the Guardians kinda changes a person a bit. Especially when she didn't exactly know why she was punished in the first place.

No one could tell, but she blushed deeply at what he'd said. Tho her eyes could have given it away. She was a girl afterall, and compliments do wonders. Especially when she was feeling embarassed in the first place. "... thank you." she said softly, to flustered to think of anything else.

It was Lethe's turn to smack her forhead. This kid was strange! "Okay. You's Zale." she looked around a little, getting bored of him already.

With a heavy sigh, she decided to find out what his damage was. "Where you live? Why you's head broke?"

Alturius smiled and kept his hand where it was, he was trying to think of more to say, then it hit him. "Oh there's no need to thank me, I'm just stating a fact..." He chuckled. "Would you like to take a quick walk with me? Maybe let off a little steam? Plot a way to get back at the wayward rugrat?" He asked, letting his tone take on a warm and pleasent feeling.

Bait the trap with honey and you get more out of it.

Zale swam closer to Lethe and took her hand, then dove, tugging at her hand to follow him as he started to swim towards his hiding spot. As he swam he pointed at his mouth then opened it and shut it, shaking his head.

He was trying to tell her he didn't know how to talk!
