The heat of summer was slowly starting to overtake the rainy-scent of spring. The grass was always greener on the other side. When spring had started to make it's appearance Caelen hadn't minded at all but it certainly had excited him to see the green refreshing all over the ground. After a couple of months of spring he was more than ready to see what summer had to offer. Sure, if it got to being too dry outside the lush grass would shrivel up and the days would be spent next to a pond or stream or river just standing in the shade, but it was a change.
"Oi lad, yer gettin' a bit wobble-brained in yer old age."
Aye, that had to be the problem he was just unable to decide what he liked best. No, he liked fall best with the changing of colors and the crisp air. The coloring didn't remind him of home in that time but the fresh air did wonders for a homesick heart.
"I'm waxin' on eloquent or some mushed nonsense an' I'm talkin' ter meself ter boot!" Looking around curiously Caelen could see nobody near him in the shade of a blooming oak tree, but he could vaguely smell something or someone.

In fact Caelen had been watched for a time; Izusa had drifted along in the shadows of a nearby line of trees, curiosity over the walking piece of greenery overcoming her normal disdain for the more generic breeds of Soquili that inhabited the lands. She snorted a little, listening to the sounds of his ramblings to himself as they drifted on the air. The words she couldnt quite fathom, but she could see no other that he might be addressing and she felt fairly certain he had yet to spot her. She left the shadows boldly, heading straight for the stallion, her wings folded tight to her sides and her tail tendrils flicking on the ground in her wake. 'Who does the grass speak to?' she said, her voice in an almost sing-song manner as she addressed him directly.

"Ho hum?" Looking quickly Caelen saw a most unusual mare coming towards him. Her coat seemed almost shiny to his eyes and purple markings danced over the metallic coat. Her expression was nearly glaring? Ahh, a kalona. Ole Cael it seems ye've found some.. entertainment? "I speak ter meself lass, as I find me own comp'ny more enjoyable than many that I've met. 'Less ye've a mind ter talk fer awhile?" Perhaps or perhaps not, time would tell. "Now then, callin' me grass'll nae do lass, the name's Caelen and what may I call such a lady?" Pure flattery, they'd both probably see through it but part of his enjoyment in life was mixing words.

'Maybe if you looked better then you'd find company to talk to..' Izusa snickered. In a way though she got what he meant. Some of her best conversations had been when she was alone in the burial grounds...but she was getting mentally sidetracked and flashed her eyes back to the stallion. 'I'd sooner carve you into strips and drink from your veins but I've just eaten - you're safe.' she licked her mouth after making that little speech, tasting a little of the rabbits blood that was still clinging to her short lip hairs. 'Izusa.' she said bluntly.

"Och, yer a rough one fer me delicate heart miss Izusa, but ye'll find I'm nae one ter put too much value inter looks." Several mares he had met had been borderline glorious in their looks but the inside had been brittle and useless to him, "I've no need fer a pretty face if the inside is as empty as a bucket." Smiling easily at the kalona mare in front of him, Caelen continued to remain relaxed with his charm. Uptight would probably just make her happy, either she'd enjoy his company or lose interest. Time would tell. "What is such a lovely lass doin' out an' about, eh?"

'That's obvious,' Izusa strained her ears, trying to make sense of the garbled words that passed for his speech. 'I have the whole package,' she stated. It wasnt boastful really; well not for Kalona thinking at any rate. She had slowly begun to think of herself as not unattractive, and she knew that the good genes that her children displayed came partly for herself. 'Empty would likely describe the contents of alot of mares heads.' She rustled her wings, irritation following the thoughts that accompanied her words. 'I'm out looking for a certain stallion, I'm sure he has company of is own.'

He stood and relaxed for a bit. The mare in front of him was full so he had no reason to be overly on edge with her around. Sure it'd be just stupid of him to lose focus but why stand at attention. "Now that, who may ye be lookin' fer?" Maybe in that extent he'd be able to help her. She was an interesting kalona, albeit the only one he had ever met. Sometimes others told stories and they were almost always in a bloodthirsty mood. She on the other hand just seemed perhaps, tired?

Izusa had lost interest in the stallion for a moment, moving over to a tree and pinning a beetle with one of the points of a wing. She looked over when he spoke, a faint look of puzzlement on her face and then she recalled that they had been speaking. 'His name is Guilian.' she said. 'Blood red and feather winged. And the father of my children, though he doesnt often act like it.' her tail lashed along the floor. 'Do you have a mare that you've seeded and abandoned?'

Even a fool could see that the mare in front of him had lost all interest in what he had said to her. Most of the time less intelligent mares stopped listening because they couldn't follow along with what his accent did to his words. Bah! "Guilian, eh? I canna say I've heard of him." His own nose wrinkled in disgust when the mare explained what the stallion was, "I canna say I'm sad that I've nae met him, stallions that canna stay with a mare fer life shouldna be able ter breed." His own family was close-knit even with the distance between them. Ridiculous, the idea of him abandoning a pregnant mare, "Nay lass, I'd nae do that 'less the mare refused ter see me."
