I thought this would be an important thing to share, considering how pro-choice entails the right to safely choose both abortion and childbirth without obstacles. For all the blind misconceptions about how it's so easy to have a child nowadays (if I had a penny every time a pro-lifer said "just have the kid, it's not that hard..."), I think this article says a little something about the social conditions of certain countries.

Link to the report. You can also see the top ten countries, as well as the bottom ten. There's a PDF file you can download for the full ranking.

Related news article which explains why European countries fare much better in terms of maternity benefits and childcare.

The US is, like, the richest country in the world, and we're number 26? Yeah, that means it's really easy to raise a kid, for sure. rolleyes

Sweden are just an awesome country in all rights. Hell, a bunch of the players on the Vancouver Canucks are Swedes.

Still hurts to see Canada at 15th. Eh well. It's something I can flaunt to Americans who think "amerika roolz we r wurld polise"

Yay, Sweden! mrgreen

I just hope it'll last, and get even better. There is still a lot to do for women here, even if Sweden's better than many places.

Woot for Sweden!

Also, UK ranked 12th. Which I'm fairly happy with, being as I want to stay here and raise a family at some point.
