The whole Gamer Chick = Ugly thing is a dumb stereotype used because most of the 'fit' girls didn't play or even knew what video games were. Least that's how it is where I'm from :/
When guys ask me what I do in my free time, they get kinda surprised that I play games XD;;
The whole Gamer Chick = Ugly thing is stupid in my opinion.

i think gamer chicks are expected to be tomboys there less concentrated on our looks therefore we aren't supposed to be pretty. but people are stupid.

it really is just a sterotype... people think that its girls who are unattactive who play games because they believe that thats the way those girls get guys...

In my experience... Its not just the ugly ones though.. I mean I have noticed that more and more girls do care about their appearance.. They were makeup, they fix their hair and paint their nails some times.. But when it comes to being at home, they throw on some old clothes, probably jogging pants and a tshirt and just lay around playing games. But when we go out, Us gamer girls, we can look just as good as the rest of the world. And I agree.. it is just a silly stereotype.. But I had a few people say this to me the other day and I was wondering who else heard the same thing.

There may be ugly girls who play video games, but not all girls who play video games are ugly.

Stereotypes. Blame them.
We get the idea that not a lot of girls play games, and that those who do act tomboyish. BUT it does not mean every single girl who plays videogames are so much like tomboys that they do not care for their looks. RAWR.

Let's admit it:
There are plenty of of uber-obsessive gamers who don't maintain their appearance, both male and female.
But there are plenty of average-looking (and above) gamers too.
People just assume that if you're a female gamer, you've got some problem with your femininty. BS! I like wearing skirts AND video games. bah!

I think there are some ugly gamers and some pretty ones, just like there are some pretty and ugly athletes, some pretty and ugly doctors, some pretty and ugly taxi drivers, and jsut about everyone else in the world. There really isn't any specific job or label that always has pretty people or ugly people, since its all just a matter of opinion on how ugly/pretty someone is, anyway.

I don't think it's a 'retarded' stereotype. I think it's a stupid stereotype. I'm a tomboy myself but I know of a bunch of fellow gamer girls who aren't. And I also know PLENTY of ugly girls who aren't gamers. Same for guys.
