So, obviously everyone here is a Spelling Nazi, but how many of you make use of your Spelling Nazi-ness? Does anyone like to write? -- as a hobby, that is.
If you've examined my sig very closely you've probably already figured out my answer to that question. blaugh
Discuss: Writing Spelling New topics in the guild The fact the Rose is probably spending too much time in the GD forums, as evidenced by the fact that she is adding a discussion tag to this topic.

I make ample use of my SN nature. I write quite a deal of poetry, and a fair amount of other things (generally term papers ;_; ...), and read/review other people's work as well. I do random typing jobs on campus for professors and students, which comes in handy money-wise, and volunteer-wise, I'm an editor-in-staff for Steel Toe this year. O_O; (I still can't believe that one....) In all of these, knowing how to spell and having a good vocabulary is very helpful. Makes for less spell-check-wastes-of-time. New topics are the yum. And a good new topic this is. Focus. I'm just a forum whore. Whatever strikes the mood. Beer!

I write all the time; both novels and fanfiction. I love being a Spelling Nazi when writing fanfiction because it means I don't need a Beta. biggrin

I've written things in the past that I thought were good at that time, though I consider them horrible now that I reread them...It used to be all-fanfiction-writing for me, but I've slowly grown out of writing fanfiction...I'm currently working on a series with my friend, though.
I never knew that writing would be so complicated...I mean, I thought, at first, that we would just write it, look it over, fix a few things, and see what other people think of it. But now that we've begun...We wrote part three before parts one and two (my friend will be writing two while I, apparently, write one), and I've been rewriting part three in a notebook because the original sounded...*shudders*...bad. Really bad. Only, just recently, it's been decided that part one needs to be written first, since a lot that has to do with three works with one...And I'm also going to have to rewrite the rewrite of part three, or at least the beginning of what I have, since it's been noticed that one part just wouldn't work out...
Oh! If anyone here has read the new Harry Potter book yet, have they noticed the error on page 38?

Error? *dashes off to check* Oh, you mean "fug"? See, I just assumed it was some British term that I was unfamiliar with -- like "trainers" or a "jumper", y'know? xd I did notice some other spelling error in one of the early chapters when I was reading it last night.
I don't think I'd be much good at co-writing something. I get too possessive of my characters and my plots. So you're, like, alternating the chapters you write? What's the genre?

There's another error...? If there is, I didn't see it...(And no, I don't think that "fug" is a British term. I'm fairly certain that they meant to write "fog".) (How long did it take you to read it, if you've finished it?)
Yes, we're co-writing the series, but we're not alternating chapters. That wouldn't work at all, since I'd have to say we have slightly different writing styles. What we did was split up the characters - she made some and I made some, and we each played the characters we made. We work through IM, kind of like role-playing...So being possessive wouldn't matter at all. 3nodding
As for the genre...Well...I have no idea, really. sweatdrop I'm going to have to assume some sort of fantasy, since there's demons, magic, dragons...That sort of thing...But there's twists and stuff all over the place (or at least, that's how I feel about it); it could also be considered slighty "action", but I'm going to have to say fantasy, I suppose.
Been working on it since November '03. ^ ^ Or at least, that was the third part. We did that one together, RP-style, as we're doing part four. She's writing part two entirely by herself, and I'm going to have to do part one by myself, since it's the background of my characters, but she's promised to help me out (since everything I try to write on my own either ends up sounding bad or doesn't actually get finished...).

It took me... I dunno... nine or ten hours, maybe? I read it in one sitting, which was probably stupid, 'cause I ended up staying up until five in the morning. I've got a splitting headache now. gonk
Oh, I gotcha. You're each in charge of your own characters. Neat. How do you decide where you're going with it? I mean, did you have a plot or anything planned out when you started, or are you just sort of writing, and seeing where it goes...?

One sitting? That's the way to go! I didn't get up for 6 whole hours, until my dad made me get up since we had to go out, and I was nearly done by that time...
We had/have the main plotline planned for each part of the series, for the most part, as well as many of the mini-plots that are incorporated. Anything that we need to decide on, my friend's the one that usually seems to come up with what'll happen, and when she tells me I add my own bits and pieces into it. So, I guess it'd be a bit of both. Things come up on whims at times, and if we both like it, we try to incorporate it.
When it comes to the rewrite, that's basically all mine to play around with. Since the original, for the most part, makes me wince at how bad it is whenever I look through the pages for bits to use, I'm pretty much rewriting it completely. When I come to something that I don't know how to work through (I tend to think ahead as well), I talk it over with my friend, either in person or through IMs. We then tend to have long, deep conversations about what'll happen, how it will happen...All the basic questions.
There are only a few times that we end up arguing about what'll happen next, and that's pretty much only when it's something major that'll affect the storyline, like what we discussed last. My friend managed to get her point across, and now I'm going to have to put the rewrite aside (even though I was just able to continue it since we had just figured out what the main villain would look like) for a year or so and work on the first bit...*shakes head*.

Some writing, LOTS of editing, and I've written lyrics for about 20 songs, but I'm more of a math and music person than a spelling person, even though I'm more obsessive about perfect spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

I used to be an rp devout. It was just a small Freewebs kind of forum thing. It was about ten really active players, including myself. There was no huge, overall plot, just spontaneous random rp's. They never really went anywhere. If anything, the rp's were kind of a character development and we just got better at writing. But all the sites died. Some of them turned into zombies for a while. Repeatedly. And we're currently trying to bring the most recent one back to life, although it's not the same tight-knit group as it was before. Just me and one other girl from England.

Ooh, I'm not good at math at all. I really stink, to tell the truth. Not at the simple stuff so much, but with algebra and anything beyond. I blame it on being a left-handed, artistic, teenage female. xp Of course, as my luck would have it, all of my brothers are excellent at math, and just about everything else.

There's nothing wrong with being left-handed. Nothing at all. *nods* I write with my left (though am technically ambidextrous). And math is a fun subject (first on my list, followed by English, depending on the teacher).
Though, I can understand the 'artistic' bit.

I'm just good at memorizing codes and patterns. Actually, I suck at memorizing everything else. I'm left-handed too, and I'll draw every once in a while, and paint if I have 2 or 3 hours of spare time, but I'm better at fencing and music. I'm male, and 14. Well, I just have a really smart family. We all have IQ's over 130 (mine's 180), we all are obsessive, we all freak out too easily, and we all have mental issues. In other words, we'd make a great television show. (feel free to draw what you think my family looks like, if you want)
