Welcome to the original birthplace of Eilir This journal is maintained by TawnyAngel Height: 14h Eilir's Stats Skill level: 38Power: 12 pts Strength: 11 pts Intelligence: 9 pts Wisdom: 14 pts Courage: 6 pts Luck: 7 pts Speed: 15 pts Agility: 52 pts Adaptability: 14 pts Stamina: 7 pts
Personality: Eilir was always a nervous creature and since being enslaved her fears have only increased. She speaks only when in the presence of her equals or when spoken to by a Katilenuck and tends to avoid eye contact with other Nequus. She remembers well every cruelty done to her and expects nothing but fear, pain and weariness in the future. She hates her feather-winged masters and they hold her loyalty only through her fears. Should she ever overcome these, unless she has found a kind master for whom she could forget her hate, woe betide the Jala that stands between her and liberty.
Location: Fyhi tel Oren - as a slave she is unlikely to be leaving in the near future unless her owner is making a trip out of Katilenuck lands
Eilir's Tree is located in the Northern Quadrant

For the attention of the owner As you have recently acquired a slave from one of our esteemed traders it is my duty to provide you with information on it’s origins so that you might better know how to get the best use from it. I trust you will find this report to your satisfaction. If this is not the case however, feel free to contact me through the grey and white Rit who can be found by the topmost waterfall or through my mistress tactician Undine. Distinguishing marks
Some Katilenuck accumulate many slaves over the years and I have been told by those than own large numbers that it is useful to have a brief description of each to pass out should their slave go missing. It saves much time and can always be relied upon to be accurate.
Breed: Bae Name: Known to other slaves as ‘Eilir’ Height: 14h Colouring: ‘blue/gold’ Tealish blue socks and back, golden body. Slightly duller gold mane/tail (short), blue eyes Build: Long-legged for a Bae but muscular
Quirks
Some slaves are stubborn and, in such cases, it is best to know how to persuade them to do as they are told. Knowing how a slave thinks and using this saves time, effort and reduced performance due to beatings.
Your Bae ‘Eilir’ is, happily, an easy case. She is a fearful creature and highly obedient. She is not the sharpest ever but she appears to be a quick learner and eager to please. A note of caution however; on greater investigation I have discovered a deep resentment for the Katilenuck. There are two ways that this threat can be neutralised. To keep this one in line in the long run it will be necessary to either keep her in fear or to treat her well; to gain her affection and loyalty. Which course of action is best I do not know and leave the decision to your capable mind.
Other than that she seems to get along well with other slaves; if you do aquire another in the future I do not foresee any problems from your Bae.
Tree description
It is said that much can be told about a Nequus from their tree and so I make it a part of my policy to speak to each new slave I am asked to build a profile on and discover where their tree lies so that I can see it and report on it.
This Bae’s tree is smaller than average, although not by very much. It is fairly broad of trunk and its branchs and the twigs are strong. This seems somewhat out of keeping with the Bae’s weak spirit; a contrast worth watching. The tree’s bark is a greenish blue, somewhat like it’s owner’s markings and it is of the kind that peels and flakes away easily. As it begins to do this, the colour lightens somewhat giving the trunk a patchy appearance. The leaves on this tree are few in number but very large and coloured a warm gold. From speaking to Eilir I have learned that they darken in colour as the weather grows colder and fall in early winter to be replaced in early to mid spring.

Biography Eilir was a single fruit and one can only assume that her parents guarded her tree with the same determination that any parent would show. I have spoken to her about her early days and she had this to say: I don’t remember much. It was a long time ago in my heart if not in time. I was born in the spring; everything around me was green and growing. My parents were wonderful; they loved guarded and guided me. I learned to fly, to run and I played with other foals. Until I came here… She was somewhat less forthcoming about what happened next but I gather it was in the summer. She and her parents were moving to D’ob with a few other families; all Jala. A slaving group ran across the part it seems and, naturally, the Jala were allowed to go peacefully. The small family of Bae however was waylaid; the parents were both strong and foals all have potential for use. Despite my coaxing Eilir either would or could not tell me much of what happened next. To fill in the gaps, I searched out one of the stallions who had been part of the slaving party and asked him for his account. He was at rest when I approached him and was admirably cooperative. This is what he told me; Oh, yea, I remember that. Vicious little bastards those Bae were. They may be small but I tell ya, they sure as hell know how to kick and bite. Anyways, the parents were the trouble not the brat; she ran off and hid. We wanted her out of the fighting; too much risk of damaging her so a couple of the lads caught her and herded her off. That left the rest of us to bring in the parents but they fought like mad bloody things I tell ya. In the end the commander decided they were more trouble than they’d be worth to our traders; they'd've been too battered to be any good by the time they've given up. We left after that; dunno if the pair lived or not and frankly I couldn’ care less. Nasty little bastards, real nasty. After that you can guess all that matters. She was brought to the herd lands, given to the slaver Ra'Lnar and from there she came into your possession.

Relationships Relationships are the foundation of any life, even that of a slave. There are things that people will do for love, or for hate, that they would never even consider doing under normal circumstances. I shall do my best to observe your slave and find out whom she is connected to and how. Trader Ral'nar - In this case I think hate would be a mild word. She blames this stallion for her status as a slave and, if she ever had the chance, I do not doubt that she would beat him to death with little thought for the consequences. Bae-mare pink design - This slave is named Zara'ora and Eilir has struck up a friendship with the elder Bae. She seems to look up to her as an example of the kind of life a slave can live. Hera - I have had trouble finding out what Eilir thinks of you. She hates you, I believe, but not as strongly as she hates the trader and she fears you more than enough for her resentment to be inconsequential for the time being. With luck, in time, she will come to accept her position as your property and forget her dislike of you. Shrila-Ochre - Eilir views me as a friend and confidant which puts me in a perfect position to gather any knowledge about her that you feel you need. Bae-stallion icy blue - This slave is named Virgil, as you already know. Eilir seems quite smitten with him, which I am sure can work to your advantage in the longrun. Tactician Undine - Well, she hates her for being a Katilenuck, but she likes her for hastening the match between herself and the slave Virgil. Shaman Dahak - Well, again she doesn’t like him for being what he is, but she does like him for letting her get close to Virgil.

Activity Where she’s been and what she’s been doing gathered from various sources The sale - Eilir's basic training being complete, she was on this day put up for sale. She was overlooked, perhaps for her common breed perhaps for her meakness, until you arrived and took her on. Rest for the Wicked - From speaking with the filly, I gather that last night she met with another slave at on of their watering areas. It was an innocent enough conversation, though the black and pink of the purple slave trader did mention escape in passing. Talk of the future - Well, you were there, you know what happened but still, for completeness sake; You and Dahak arrange to breed Virgil and Eilir at some point. If there’s only one foal, you get it. A matter of heart - Last night Eilir was getting a drink when Virgil turned up. I wasn’t there, but the only important things that happened (I gather from a reliable source) were Eilir finding out that Virgil loves Dahak, and confirmation to an observer’s eyes that she loves the blue bae. Just Dropping In - I gather from Tactician Undine that Eilir was chatting with the slave Virgil on a rest period. She recognized them and decided to go and speak to her son about speeding up their match.

Thoughts Eilir’s thoughts on life the universe and anything gathered directly from her. Here follows the first words she had to say to me when I approached her as a friend. Ochre? Well that's a right pretty name, a bit like mine really. Eilir means blue you see, Mama named me for my eyes... I miss her and Papa so much. I wish I knew what happened to them Ochre; I can't stop thinking about them. I don't suppose I'll ever see them again though.
My mistress? I don't know; she worries me. She seems nice enough I suppose but how can I not be suspicious of a Nequus that owns me. That would willingly own anyone come to that. I want to go home Ochre. I'll do as she says though, of course. I like my wings and legs whole and my body un-kicked.
Of course I'd run; given the chance who wouldn't? I don't think there will be the chance though; I'd be caught in a moment. I want to go home Ochre but... but I don't suppose I ever will. I'll just have to make the best of whatever life my mistress allows me to have. I'm glad I met you Ochre. It’s good to have a friend. As you see, she's hardly over the moon about the whole situation but to me it seems as though she is neither brave enough nor stupid enough to try anything. With a bit of time mistress Hera, I think she will make you a very fine slave indeed.

After hearing about her talk with the Bae mare named Zara'ora I decided it was time for another talk with your slave to see if having words with a more experienced slave had changed her outlook.
I've got two friends now Ochre; you and Zara. I hope I can be as strong as her when I grow up; she seemed so calm about the whole thing. She told me about how sometimes owners choose to breed their slaves to make profit...
This will sound odd but I hope mistress Hera wants to breed from me someday. I've always thought that one day I would have foals and I can't stand the idea of never being a mother. I only hope that, if I were put with a stallion, my children would go to nice owners. Do you think there's any way I could make sure they get nice owners Ocure?... Well I didn't expect so. Thank you anyway, it's been nice to talk to you again.
As you see, the black and pink mare's mention of freedom hasn't taken hold too strongly and her attitude towards breeding seems to be in your advantage. With a note to the resentment issue I mentioned before I feel that should you allow her to breed, and then see to it that her foals go to relatively lenient masters or mistresses, she would feel very much in your debt.

It has been a little while since I last spoke to your Bae, so I decided to check on her progress. She's nearly a mare now after all, and such stages of life are worth watching carefully.
I'm... I'm alright I think. I'm used to the work now, the routine and I don't tire out like I used to. I miss my parents still, and I wish I wasn't, you know, a slave, but... but life gones on, I guess. I'd rather be a slave and alive than die trying to get free, especially with the kinds of deaths I've seen dealt out to those who try to run.
I've got some good friends here now and when I'm not working I can go to them and they make me smile. I'm still frightened of the Katlenuck, all of them, but other things are less scary now I'm a bit older, a bit wiser and a bit bigger. I think I'm starting to feel a bit more like my friend Zara does; I don't like being a slave but I accept it, and I don't expect it to change so I can enjoy the bits of life that come in between slave stuff.
I've thought a bit more about foals, too; I'm sure I'd like them at some point. I suppose I ought to approach mistress Hera about it but... well, I'll wait until I'm fully a mare, then I'll talk to her. It would bring advantage to her, so I can't see her outright refusing me. That's one thing to look forward to, I suppose.
As you see, she's turning out rather well. There are very few slaves that happily accept their position, as I'm sure you know, but at least she's accepting it. When she's a mare proper I'll check up on her for you again.
Regards,
Shila-Ochre

Well, you Bae certainly has grown up well. Strong, obedient, nice coat and a good worker. I’ve talked to her recently, to find out what sort of mare she’s become, and this is what she said to me.
I’m... well, silly as it sounds, I’m grown up now. I’m frightened, but less frightened and I hardly think of my sire and dam at all these days. I think more about foals though, especially since I met Virgil. He’s so pretty, Ochre, all blue and white and he so sweet. I like him, a lot, and talking to him has made me think that if I had foals they might end up happy even though they would be slaves. He’s happy you see, works for the advisor’s son Dahak and tells me he hasn’t been so happy since he was a colt. I think we’d have fine children, Ochre. Should I ask Mistress Hera about it or... Oh! Oh would you? That would be wonderful, yes; thank you!... Oh yes, him too if it’s no bother. Hehe, I suppose that leaves me to talk to Virgil. Eep!
So, as you may have guessed i offered to talk to you about the possibility of mating her to Virgil. I’ve investigated him too and he seems like a good specimen, foals from that pair could be quite a coup for you if you don’t mind losing her labor whilst she goes to Shrilal. Still, the decision rests with you, and of course with young Dahak. I hope you will consider it, especially if he is interested in the match; he’s a bright young thing and being in his good books might well bring you advantage some day; he’s going places, that one is.

As you know, today arrangements were made between Dahak and yourself about breeding Virgil and Eilir. here are her thoughts on it.
Brilliant! I can’t believe you managed it!... Well actually yes, I can, of course I didn’t doubt you. I feel a bit foolish really, falling for him like this, but I can’t help it. He’s wonderful and gentle and, oh, everything! I know we won’t get to be real mates or anything, but there might be love between us, we might get to spend rest times together, we might get to play with our foals at least a bit and we might look out for them and for one another.
Foolish dream it might be, but at least it is a dream and that’s more than I’ve had in a long time I can tell you. I hope our owners decide on a time to match us soon; I think I might die of excitement and suspense if they don’t! I’ll talk to him about all this as soon as I have time; I do hope he feels at least something for me in return. Thank you again for this Ochre, but I need to go now; work to do!
As you see, all is well with her on this matter. I thought it would be, but confirmation is always nice.

Well, she’s still an obedient little thing but after her conversation with Virgil I thought I’d better check up on her...
I feel awful. He doesn’t love me, and never will. I can hardly stand it, Ochre, it just doesn’t seem fair... Oh I know life isn’t fair, believe me, but this is... there is a new level of not fair. First my parents gone, then I’m a slave, and now I’m in love with this stallion who’s head over hooves for his master of all people. Oh I’ll still do it, have foals with him, I’ll still do that willingly but... but the little dream I was building of having a family in the middle of all this has been squashed somewhat. No doubt he’ll like me, no doubt he’ll love our foals but... but his romantic love is given away already, and I can’t hope to win it.
I’m sorry Ochre, but I need to sleep now. I’ll talk to you soon.
Well, as you see at least she isn’t going to be difficult. I hope her feelings for the blue bae don’t affect her work, that’s all. She seems as dejected as when she first came here.

Having heard from Undine that she had spoken to Eilir of speeding up the match between her and Virgil, I went for another chat with her.
Ochre! You sly thing, I didn’t see you sneaking up there... Yes thank you, I’m quite well... Work is work, I hate it but I can deal with it, you know? At least I’m fit and everything, I wouldn’t like to try to live a slave’s life if I wasn’t... Yes, now you mention it, something good has happened; am I grinning that much?... Ah, well there you go then, but yes, anyway; that b***h tactician Undine, the one you have to fly over battles for, has decided it’s to her advantage to make the Shaman and Hera get on with matching Virgil and myself. Suits her, suits me; I think suits Virgil even, he seems to quite like the idea of having foals. So I suppose I have had a good day, really, and I suppose I like Undine a bit as well as hating her.
So, as you see, she’s still very much in love with Virgil, and that is still to your advantage. I advise you to act swiftly on this matter before she sours to the whole matter, or before Dahak decides his slave has better prospects elsewhere. He doesn’t exactly have to be choosy anymore, you know.

As you know by now, Eilir and Virgil have gone to Shrilal to tend to their tree. I went with them to find out how many foals you can expect, and to check on Eilir’s mood as ever...
Isn’t it wonderful Ochre? I swear I’ve never seen anything so wonderful. It’s so tall, so strong and two buds... I couldn’t ask for better, really. I haven’t been this happy in my whole life! I know they’ll be slaves, I know I’ll be a slave again when I go back but... but it isn’t quite so bad now, you know? I’ll have Virgil teach them to love their lives and I’ll try not to let them know how much I hate being a slave. Maybe even that will change, I mean, I never expect to like it but maybe I’ll be able to stand it better with little ones to love.
I know you have to go now, and I’ll miss having you here to talk to; his princeness isn’t exactly good company and Virgil isn’t here too much what with getting food and everything... Still, I know you want to be getting back to Undine, and that Dahak and Hera will want to know how many fruits there are. Still, I’ll be fine; I can always daydream after all and I expect I’ll be getting more and more tired as the fruits grow bigger.
I’m happy, Ochre, happy. It’s so strange to be really happy, I’d almost forgotten what it was like to be happy for more than a moment. Life is good.
Well, all good news then. One for you and one for Dahak, and the possibility that Eilir will be more tractable in future. All in all I think this has turned out to be an excellent deal for you.
