Due to all the drama with 420chan and Subeta, I want everyone here to be extremley careful with passwords and usernames, not just here but on all websites. Make them all different so none of you guys get caught out!
If you don't know what I'm blabbering on about, check out the GCD!
I don't want any of you guys getting hacked so please, please have nice, secure passwords!

Jupiter, it's gone farther than people now know. 420chan has a grudge against Gaia and Subeta, and they're trying to make the two groups war while they attack the main database. They apparently tried to hack the main database yesterday, but were unable to for Gaia, the security was too tight.
Subeta, not so tight, which is how it was able to be hacked.
I must warn all subeta users as well, scroll slowly in the forums, I'm about to be sick because it seems all the people I choose to stalk like posting pictures of skinned cats -_-
Apparently there are much worse pictures though, so scroll slowly. Also, don't click any links you receive on Gaia or Subeta if you don't know the person. Check the link location first, if it has something before it, like www.(blank).gaia.net or something, that's just an example, it's a tracking device that will boot you off your account and change the passimmediatly, and only if you're quick and have quick net and is able to get to the email recovery before them, you're sunk for a bit.
If you do get hacked, post with a mod right away so the account can be frozen and it's not perma banned.
Also, doing a google search on a subject in the link is good to find out about it.
I've gotten confirmation so far of myspace accounts being hacked, and one guy unlucky enough to have the same pass on every site and had his paypal and ebay hacked.
The group, 420chan is a drug support group, and when they attack a site, which is something they're known for, they're called the anonymous since they're good at covering their tracks.
The reason they attacked Subeta was because they believed when Subeta came out with the longcat item, a meme of 420chan, they thought subeta made it seem you'd have a better chance of getting the item if you had a gold account, and in that sense the group thought Subeta profited financially off their mascot.
They hacked into the mysql database about 2 weeks ago, stealing passwords and account names.
They put two and two together while hacking Subeta accounts that some of the passes and user names were the same as Gaia, and having a grudge against Gaia, found it too good of an opportunity to pass up, and are now finding out that some other sites also have the same username and passwords.
They are right now bent on making Keith look the bad guy, part of them covering their tracks, pushing the blame on someone else.
Sorry if it seems I'm intruding Jupiter, I just decided I'd share everything I had on the current events with the allies, the more informed you are the less likely you'll be hacked, and this thread was here so I thought this way all the info would be in one place.

Thats some great investigating,
its very scary for all concerned, so. Basically we need to be very careful...
Guys, as of now, we can only trust those we know..
its sad that it has come to this.. but we have worked hard to get all our items and friends..
for example my Bebo account was hacked recently, and my friend Xanin had her last Gaia Account hacked..
Queen, you did real good giving us the facts..

This reminds me of the 4-chan attacks on Habro, except these guys are attacking the main servers instead of just the people.

Yeah, my best friend IRL was hacked, because she just registered there. And I know for a fact that she just used the same username, not same password, and they still got in her account and PMed me disturbing images. So even if you change the password, sometimes it's not enough unless the password is terribly diffucult, like kjakjf897kjjk34 or some crap.

Ok, so doing some investigative work on this situation has lead me to an un-confirmed report. It seems "raiders" from 420chan and 4chan have taken Subeta's servers down, and now they are preparing a massive attack on Gaia later this week. Again, this is unconfirmed, but my sources are usually good on this kinda information.

Hey there everyone. As you can see, the majority of 420chan is currently offline. I'm going to spare the details since that would take several pages to explain.
Right now, however, myself and others involved with 420chan have come to the decision that the site has gotten to the point where certain steps are needed for it to survive and become "legitimatized".
Don't worry /i/nsurgents, this in no way means that a certain board is going to be disappearing anytime soon. However, it does mean that you're all going to have to help should you want the site to be able to continue.
Note that I've also been advised to try and keep a serious tone throughout this. Those of you that have been here long enough know that I hate having to do that, which is why I'm going to stay brief and to the point.
For the past 2 years, 420chan has undergone a nearly constant cycle, even before the inception of /i/. Rent hosting, live there for 2-3 months, piss off hosting company, get dropped, rent new hosting elsewhere, rebuild, repeat.
We're no longer capable of just going around, renting hosting and then getting said hosting terminated after 2-3 months, sometimes losing large amounts of data in the process and having to scramble about, scraping together money and searching for a new host to use.
We need to purchase servers and colocate them. This would mean that even if hosting gets cut off (I'm going to touch on this as well), the servers get quickly moved to a new datacenter, and everything is as it was again. No large amounts of downtime as I spend days rebuilding a bunch of s**t, and it makes actual maintenance much easier as well.
As for hosting being cut off, we also need a new permanent home for /i/, somewhere away from the main servers, so as to prevent any major problems.
I know some of you recently donated to 7chan (and quickly got burned by it), from what I heard, a very large amount of funds were lost, not once, but twice due to complete incompetence - and on top of this, they were going to be using all that money to RENT servers, instead of doing the smart thing and buying servers and renting rackspace. All that goes to show you is how you should never let someone that's proved their incompetence time and time again run something. But I'm not here to discuss 7chan at length (ME, BITTER? NO WAY).
Lastly, I also can't manage 420chan entirely by myself, with a few moderators anymore. And, sadly, our other administrator hates perl. I need a few coders to work on Wakaba and the site and give it some features that it is sorely lacking. I'm just one guy, and recently I've been trying to focus more on my life instead of shitting away all my time on 420chan.
You all have shown how much you love 420chan in the past few weeks/months/2 goddamn years, throughout all of it's high times and all of it's troubled times. Now it's time to prove it.
SO, IN SUMMARY:
420chan needs donations to purchase servers then colocate them.
420chan needs good deals on colocation rackspace in a datacenter with a usable AUP
420chan needs donations of server hardware or good deals on rackmount hardware.
420chan needs a new home for /i/.
420chan needs coders fluent in Perl and XHTML. Other languages or frameworks are bonuses. Fluency in FreeBSD is also a major plus.
My cat needs some more goddamn treats. All she does is sit on my bed and sleep all day then eat treats then sleep on my lap then eat more treats and sleep some more. FAT.

It seems the 420chans have calmed down slightly and are focusing more on Subeta now, but are not even attacking as much on that since things have now happened where the group can actually have a lawsuit put on them that can shut down their site and send several members to jail, including fraud and identity theft when members stole social security numbers and credit card numbers, and made purchases along with trying to make fake ID's to sell online with the social security numbers.
I'd still be wary though, there are the Anons that have kept their reputation of being able to clean up their tracks, getting the nickname Anonymous (Anon).
