The great ball of light, or the sun as she had learned it was called at some point in her cubhood, was still high in the sky as Safuma went tumbling across the savannah. Her golden pelt melted into the tall grasses as she moved, quietly, amongst their waving blades. She was bored and looking for entertainment, stalking seemed like the best way to come upon something easily. Moving through the grass a step at a time, her tiny shoulder blades bouncing in rhythm, she made it a good long distance before she gave up. Not much was to be found.

That was when she heard it. Her round ears swivelled toward the sound, bright eyes following to find a mouse sitting at the base of a boulder half-buried in the sandy earth. He was cleaning himself with his back to her, completely unawares. Crouching low, Safu made her way forward with the utmost caution. She had caught a few mice, though none when she was so ill-focused. Her mind was ruined by boredom and impatience. Not but a foot or two away, she prepared to pounce when the mouse suddenly happened to look her way. He, for a moment, was just as shocked as he before he bolted up the boulder face.

Bounding after him, Safuma gave a low growl as she snapped out a pawful of claws to drag him back towards her before stamping on him with her paw. He was stunned. It was a broken method of hunting, but she succeeded nevertheless. Nipping his fur with her teeth, she picked him up and tossed him skyward before looking around for something else to do. While she lay like a sphinx at the top of the boulder, the mouse cautiously slithered away unnoticed. She was not on meat just yet, and didn't mind the little creature escaping when she wasn't interested in food. Her tail lashed the boulder as she leaned to one side with her paws hanging over the rock's edge. Something or someone had to happen by, they just had to.

On the beautiful sunny day, Meko was out exploring on his own once again. The white cub was having a great deal of fun, and had been particularly intrigued when he spotted the odd boulder standing out in the midst of all the grass. He jogged towards it eagerly, and was surprised to see a strange flash of gold on one side of it. It almost looked like the grass was trying to attack the big rock, and the very idea caused the cub to stop and think about what he was seeing. With a tilt of his head, he realized what he'd seen was another cub.

"Wonder what they're doin'," he murmured to himself, and picked up on the jog again. He weaved around, having a bit of fun with this and went the long way around the boulder to jump out at the stranger playfully.

"Hello!" Meko greeted her, jumping out from the other side of the boulder.

Safuma's claws, kittenlike in comparison to what they would one day become, gripped the rock as she flinched in surprise. Tail waving, her paws wrapped around the head of the rock as she whirled to face the figure that he jumped out at her. It could be a hyena! Though she knew just from the glance out of the corner of her eye that it was her size and only barely a danger - he might have come with friends. Her crimson eyes were wide as her ears swivelled toward the newcomer, taking in his voice and recognising him for what he was: a cub, probably not much older than her.

The cub growl that had grown in her throat died out to a purr as she looked him over, responding eagerly at the idea of a new playmate, "Hiya! I'm Safuma!"

Tetemeko rarely thought of consequences, a typical naivety of cubhood, and was pleased with the reaction he'd gotten. He sure must have scared her if she almost growlled at him! He chuckled quietly until it was his turn to introduce himself.

"I'm Tetemeko!" he replied brightly, then paused suddenly, "You're name sounds familiar." His stance relaxed as he tried to think of why it was, and where he'd heard it before.

(( Lol, Meko is meeting Zu too 8D This RP is officially after that one. ))

She tilted her head as he spoke, ears swivelling backwards and forwards. She was like a kitten on cat n**, taken by surprise on a lovely day. She smiled, shrugging, "No idea why it'd be familiar. Do you live around here?"

She hesitated for a moment, claws scratching against the rock's face as she contemplated what she might do. Finally she darted forward, scarlet eyes creased as she made to tackle and pin the other young cub, "I got you!"

Tetemeko thought for another moment where it might have come from, but just as she shrugged, so did he. It didn't really matter! Now he'd met her so any other mention didn't matter unless it'd been some warning about how mean or something she was, and he certainly didn't remember that.

"I do," he answered brightly, and looked around to find which direction he lived in to prove it- but the distraction was enough to give Safuma time to tackle him. With a startled yelp, he was easily pushed to the ground-- and was a bit too surprised to react at first, but soon recovered enough to stick his tongue out at her.

It had worked as she had hoped, and when the two went tumbling off the rock, she gave a satisfied laugh of accomplishment. With the other cub beneath her, she looked him over briefly before sticking her tongue out at him as well. Rolling off of him, she shrugged idly as she stood once more.

"I live on Pride Rock." Nodding she tilted her head as she studied him, letting her hind legs fold so that she was sitting properly. "You've probably just heard of me, that's all. We haven't met before." She was positive about that.

The cub was ready to retaliate when Safuma took the time to examine him and sit down. Meko might be a bit zealous, but he knew when it was not the time to fight back. He would just have to wait for a better chance to get her.

"Oooh!" he gasped, sounding genuinely impressed when she said she lived on Pride Rock. He'd always admired it, "That's really neat." Too bad he didn't live there, Meko was sure it would be fun. He really liked rocks for some reason, found them fascinating.

"Yeah," he agreed when she suggested that they had not met, "I'll remember sometime! It doesn't really matter, I've met you now."

Safuma had tensed when she recognized that the cub was about to pounce, but as he settled, she let her muscles relax even as her crimson eyes danced with alertness lest her make a sudden movement. When he was obviously impressed by her den, she rolled her shoulders in a gentle shrug as if it were nothing but the usual weather. "It's okay. You can come visit sometime if you really wanna, I don't think my mom would mind. She's not around the 'Rock' much anyways, and even then she's busy." She gave a curt nod, that was royalty for you. Her mother took as much time as she could to spend with her cubs, but there was still plenty to attend to.

"I'd remember seeing you. Maybe you met one of my brothers or sisters, I have lots of them." She smiled at him, reaching forward to bat at him playfully. "Did you go to the storytime with Tai? I saw a baby elephant the other day. From a long ways off."

Safuma's shrug did not lessen Meko's amazement at where she lived. The invitation to come visit drew a wide grin from him as well, he'd love having excuses to go there. He listened as she described her mother, wondering why she was so busy all the time and not cluing in to her being a princess. He didn't have a mother to judge by, though he knew Tai.

When Safuma described how he might have met one of her siblings, Meko shrugged.

"Maybe, if you have lots," he answered, wondering if it would be worth listing them off or just listing who he knew. Before he could do so, she mentioned Tai's story and her spotting an elephant, "I was there, yes I was. Where did you see the elephant?"

She frowned, tilting her head to one side as she too considered listing her siblings off to him. Coming to a decision, she waited until he asked about the elephant before continuing with the first train of thought, "I have lots. Akida, Sarakiva, Matlai, Simi, Alphons, Semine, Illuae, and Mzuza." She nodded her head, "Mzuza is the only sister I really see alot, though. We all have our own adventures."

Moving on to the inquiry on the whereabouts of the elephant, she grew mildly shy as her tail slid over the dirt. Shrugging, she moved her head to motion towards the nearest rogue border. "I was looking for my friend Nsundu near the borders. They were off in the roguelands."

An obvious look of recognition overtook Meko's face as soon as Safuma mentioned Sarakiva, but he let her finish the list- right down to Mzuza. He nodded eagerly when she finished, "I met Mzuza! She was talking about you and her and Sarakiva at the story." His statement ended very matter-of-factly, with another short nod to emphasize it. He noticed that she didn't seem outwardly to feel the same way about Sarakiva he'd though Zu did.

"I don't have any brothers or sisters, Mzuza didn't really make it sound like I was missing much either," he shrugged, "Except she wouldn't be a bad sister, and I don't think you would be either."

Another matter-of-fact statement, followed by a grin. When she said the elephants were off in the roguelands, he looked all around them. Meko was not entirely aware of where the borders were, but he could imagine it. "Neat," he mumbled enthusiastically, "I'd like to see some elephants, I bet they're a lot bigger in person." It was unlikely, considering cubs generally had a great imagination for the details in stories.

She leaned forward as he mentioned Mzuza, also excited that he was not put off by the mention of the roguelands. She knew it wasn't good for cubs to go there alone, and sometimes another lion might chastise her for it. When he didn't, she gave a broad smile and reached out to swat at a fly that flitted between the two of them. "Nah, I love Zu. We have lotsa fun together."

Grinning, she settled her weight back on her haunches as she considered him, "We could go look to see if any are around?"

Tetemeko grinned when she said she and Zu have a lot of fun together, seemingly confirming his idea that Safuma and Zu would be good sisters. But he didn't have to worry about any such nonsense right now, he didn't have any siblings and was very happy to have the friends he did.

"We could?" he tilted his head, and then glanced around them warily. It didn't look like anyone was around that might try to stop them from looking for elephants, there might even be some of the giant creatures nearer than they'd expect. "Ok!" Tete agreed excitedly, hopping up and looking at Safuma expectantly, waiting for her to lead the way.

Safuma couldn't imagine not having Zu around. Even entertaining the thought would be a difficult and undeniably sad idea. Zu was her best friend, hands down, no matter how many good friends Saf made outside of her family. She enjoyed making friends, of course, but no one could replace her sister. Regardless, the idea of simply not having any siblings at all would be strange. So long as Zu could come along, she could probably handle it though (but then again, cubs don't often understand the obvious like that Zu couldn't come along if she weren't to have siblings at all).

She looked around as well, following the other cub's example as she made sure no nannies were about to grab them. No adults appeared to be in sight and she grinned mischeviously at him before standing as well and setting off to where she was fairly sure the border awaited them. They might see some sooner, but this had been the last direction in which she had seen the small herd, so it seemed the best direction to go. Swishing her tail in an attempt to swat her new companion playfully, she giggled, "Hopefully they won't sneak up on us! That could be a mess."
