A writing contest, yes, writing, for any and all types. Fiction and non-fiction. Poetry and prose. Etc. etc. With rules and guidelines and critique just like all contests.
Hell, I might even throw in multiple sections with their own prizes, and why make it just writing? Could have it a general ART FESTIVAL! Where people share their sculptures and paintings and photography and graphic imaging and poetry and short stories and essays and more!

It depends on how short or long you want the stories. Original ones are best in my opinion. It helps to have a starting point that everyone has in common and they react depending on the situation. This might work. i`ve seen it done before, but that`s just a suggestion.

It helps to have a starting point that everyone has in common and they react depending on the situation. This might work. i`ve seen it done before, but that`s just a suggestion. By original, you mean of the author's creation, correct? As in, their own idea, and not based off of a common topic. If so, this would be the case of course for any creative fiction (short story, poetry, etc.) but if I were to add non-fiction, or topic based essay writing, well, that's self-explanatory. Either way, could you elaborate on what you meant?
