BAH
I'm going to Nashville School of the Arts next year...
And my only major is cello.
So if I drop it, I get kicked out.
I play percussion now... but i don't really think it's right for me.
But i'd like to learn a band instrument...
Any ideas on how to pick an instrument?

i think it depends what kind of music you wanna play really, but cello is still pretty cool. i can instantly think of 2 bands already that have cellos, those being hevein and apocalyptica (actually uses 4 XD). both of those are towards the heavy metal genre, but that still shows how versatile they are smile

I've never really been interested in any band instruments to tell you the truth. The only percussion instrument I like (actually fascinates me) is the piano. Which I am learning this Summer. ^^

(correct me if I'm wrong) Cello is played with a bow, right? just play another instrument that uses a bow...that should be easier

Can you try all the instruments before you choose?
Can you tell me why you want to major in cello, or what is it you like about it? The sound? You already said you are learning saxophone, which I think it quite close to cello in sound (well, compared to others). Something else you might want to try is french horn.
What type of percussion did you play? If you try the marimba, it is fun. You can do many things after you can hold 4 mallets steady.

well, what sound do you like most?
if you like higher pitched instruments, that'd be flute or trumpet
if you like lower pitched but can still hit high, that's clarinet or sax
just low pitched, there's low brass.
I'd start on Clarinet or flute just cuz they're so close to each other and the sax.
and if you learn a brass instrument, it's easy to switch between them cuz the mouthpieces are the same *essentially* and trumpet/ Tuba/ French Horn are very close in fingerings.
