Plot Summary
In 1984, British newspaper reporter Arthur Stuart is investigating the career of 1970s glam rock star Brian Slade, who was heavily influenced in his early years by American rock singer Curt Wild, whose show was quite crazy for his time.
1971: Glamrock explodes all over the world and challanges the seriousness within the flowerpower generation by means of glitter and brutal music. Brian Slade, a young rockstar, inspires numerous teenage boys and girls to paint their nails and explore their own sexuality. In the end Slade destroys himself. Unable to escape the role he created for himself, he plots his own murder. When his fans discovers that the murder is a fake, his star falls and he is forgotten about. 1984: Arthur, a journalist working for a New York newspaper, gets assigned the story about the fake murder of Brian Slade. When Arthur was young and grew up in Manchester, he was more than a fan of Slade. Reluctantly he accepts the assignment and starts to investigate what happened his old glamrock hero.

Other
Unofficial story of the alleged relationship between David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

Soundtrack features songs by T. Rex, Marc Bolan, Brian Eno, Placebo, Iggy Pop [I think he did the song originally but Ewan McGregor sang it in the movie], Thom Yorke, Steve Harley, and some really nasally singing by Johnathan Rhys-Meyers.

Oh I love Velvet Goldmine! I only wish they'd gone into a bit of detail about the shooting. Other than that, wonderful movie.

I guess I didn't mind the vaugeness there. I was just kind of like 'Oh, alright then'.

I accepted it at first too, but that's just because the movie's so distracting that it took me two or three times of watching it to realize it wasn't explained.

The thing I didn't get was the aliens. I guess maybe that had to do with the whole alien rocker-messiah, or something. But the whole aliens delivering Oscar Wilde to his parents door steps? Whaa....

I think it's better not to think too hard.

I just took the alien thing as a Ziggy Stardust referance, but haven't really figured out the connection to Oscar Wilde.

I saw that...and was depressed when my friend fastforwarded some of the scenes. Yeah it makes me think of Zigs, that whole era, and I dont think I'd mind even picturing him misbehaving with any and everybody. Yet I doubt it.

I do know that Oscar Wilde was like...fabulously queer. It's the only connection I can think of, but I'm sure I must be missing something.

Oscar Wilde was like...fabulously queer.

That's almost an understatement confused Have you read the version of The Picture of Dorian Gray with everything put back that Wilde had to take out before it was published?

I love this movie ^_^ I first watched it when I was 16, in a way it's a shame that Bowie didn't allow his music to be put in the film, however how many people would watch it then think that it was a biopic or something, also Bowie not contributing any music towards the film allowed for other wonderful songs to be written.

My favorite scene is the Death Of Glitter concert... I love Ewan McGregor in this heart whee
