The wind sighed against the walls of the temple, its sighs occasionally prickling with sand. But the stone was thick and muffled the sound. Inside the temple the quiet stretched luxuriously along the lengths of the halls, undisturbed by the tiny grunts echoing through it as a baby Malu puffed his way up a set of crumbling stairs.
When he came to a step that was little more than a pile of rubble, Wolfgang stopped and sat down, gazing coolly at the stone. He scanned the rest of the stairs to see if there was another place to climb up. There wasn't. He looked at the destroyed step for a few more moments, then turned around and began his wobbling descent. He would have to try another hallway. Or perhaps this was a sign that he should return to his family. He was sure they would not mind that he had gone out patrolling -- after all, Amadeus did it frequently -- but he had neglected to actually tell them that's where he was going. If the temple was not going to let him continue then he would assume that he was supposed to go back.
He lost his footing on the second-to-last step and bumped down over the last one, landing on the floor. "Oof." Disoriented, he blinked and shook his head before struggling back onto his paws and continuing his slow, purposeful toddling back the way he had come.

The malu pup was wandering, not really patrolling. If he were patrolling for any reason, it might be in search of some young maluess to torment (which, as a young one, was his idea of flirting that would one day mature into something much more charming). His eyes were bright with good cheer, cherub wings fluttering as his paws quietly traveled over the stone with his little hooves, still soft with youth, made soft pattering noises as he went. He was older now, but still had some time to grow.
He rounded a corner and nearly tripped on the smaller baby malu, eyes widening as he quickly backstepped to avoid a collision and ended up falling on his rear. Recovering quickly, he tried to make it appear as if it had been a purposeful act by immediately grinning and speaking to the younger male, "Hi, I'm Oric!"

What little balance he had was lost when he was startled by Oric, and he also fell on his rear.
"I Woofgane," he replied automatically in a very small voice, eyes wide and staring. He'd never met another Malu in all the time he'd been patrolling. Granted, he'd only been patrolling for about fifteen minutes, but short spans of time seem long when one's entire life is still quite a short amount of time.
The surprise acquaintance did not seem threatening and Wolfgang had no idea what his father's justice patrols were all about, so he remained sitting, staring openly at the rust-colored Malu. He smiled serenely. Maybe he wasn't meant to get up the stairs because he was meant to meet Oric.

His dark, dark brown eyes took in the little orange bundle at his feet, investigating the malu baby as he had not seen many babies before. He didn't really remember what it was like to be that small, as was the usual with children, but he had seen Gustave and Midori's pups just before they grew. Tilting his head to one side, he frowned as he tried to imagine just who this little pup belonged to. It must be Amadeus' since that was the only male he knew had had pups recently.
Woofgane? Furrowing his brow, Oric smiled automatically, "Nice to meet you, Woofgane." That was a funny name, "What are you doing out here?" Rather in here, as they were in one of the temples' corridors, but it was far from any suitable den sites, so 'out here' was well enough.

"Patwol," Wolfgang replied breezily. "Like Daddy." He wished that he had gone along with his father first to learn what exactly he was doing. All he knew was that he left for a while, walked around, and came back. He glanced back over his shoulder at the set of stairs he had tried to climb, which was still in sight. "Stairs broked. No patwol."

He couldn't help but pull a face as he tried to make sense of what the little pup was saying. Patwol? Patrol. His father liked to do that sort of stuff. It was silly, Oric thought, what was there to patrol for? To each his own, he supposed, and shrugged despite that the infant wouldn't know what he was shrugging about. Frowning at the broken stairs, Oric's eyes darted back to the malu baby, "I can help you up them, if you want? Or we can go a differnt way."

Wolfgang's ears twitched and he turned his head, looking from the stairs to the hallway where he had been going. Hm, where did he want to go? Of course, he'd already been through that hallway, so he would much prefer to go up the stairs and patrol somewhere new. "Stairs?" he said hopefully, arranging his hooves and getting up. Oric seemed very big and tall to him, so he had no doubt that he would be able to get a little pup like Wolfgang over the crumbled part of the stairs.

Oric took that as agreement, grinning broadly as he manuevered himself to his own feet and stepped slowly past the pup back towards the stairs. He walked slow enough so that the younger malu could keep up, courteous even at a young age even if sometimes his manners slipped. Tilting his head at the stairs, he frowned in thought as he considered how best to go about the situation. Looking back at Wolfgang - or Woofgane as he was set on calling him, he shrugged, "I might be able to carry you on my back. You don't look too heavy. Just past the broken ones, though, okay?" He knew the pup would be too heavy to carry too far, so he had to set some boundaries so neither of them got hurt.

Wolfgang waddled after Oric happily, thinking that he was very lucky to have almost run into such a nice Malu. Now he could patrol much better. His family would be very pleased, he thought.
"Good good," he answered. He could make it up the unbroken stairs on his own, and when he reached them he proceeded to do just that. One by one he patiently pulled himself up until he reached the destroyed part again, pausing to look at Oric with wide eyes and a smile.
