Since no one bothered to post in my GD thread, I'll try the guild forums.

There's something about absolution that we need to find in everything. Whether it be the origins and the creation of the Earth. Some may not care, but some people have zealous needs to find out. People need assurance and thats what might give them power. For me, I don't really care, but I do need "absolution" into why people need assurance on certain subjects. Why do you care and what drives you to care about certain things? Genes? Family, friends and peopl? A conscious? God or gods? I want to get some opinons which will help me later on my quest for greater knowledge of understandings. Discuss, or do not care.

For me, it's simple pride.

In my experiance, most people who are strongly religious are that way, based on fear. This way, they get the 'answers' to many of their questions, and assurance that they're 'saved' after death. The fear of death ultimatly drives them to religion, and if they've been raised religiously fear keeps them from straying from those beleifs.

When grouped, it's more likely that fear is the base motavation for the need of absolution, but when you get down to why you care about family and friends the reasons are more individual. I care about my family, because they cared about me first. I care about friends because of the history we've had together.

I think people make the mistake of feeling isolated in this life when we're all making the same journy to the same end. The reason for this could be is perhaps that we all have our own reasons for the need of absolution.

Also, I think that the people who seek so avidly for say, the origin of mankind (however completely futile and ultimately useless the endeavor) have decided that this is their purpose in life. (At least for the moment.)
People have a need to feel useful, to have a purpose.

As for religion...
People who believe in a deity(s), or wish to believe in that deity(s) have an entire belief system based upon the existence of this deity.
Any doubt in the existence of the given deity, and the entire belief system collapses.

I think that people want to find the truth because they are scared of uncertainty. They don't know what happens after death, and stuff like that. When you know the truth or at least what you think is the truth you are no longer scared or you might if your scared of the truth. Absoloution is kinda like truth I guess.
